The meager selection of restaurants in Ely left Paul and Shannon dining at Pizza Palace. The front window of the chain establishment presented the unobstructed view of Ely’s main strip, which Paul and Shannon ignored. There was nothing worth watching. The amber glow of an early evening street light streamed through the windows, backlighting Shannon and making her hair appear almost on fire.
