**Nate**
We arrived in Libby Montana a little before dinner time. Everyone was excited to get out and stretch their legs, I was excited to try out this new plan of ours but good things come to those who wait. Libby, Montana was a small little town with only about 3000 people in it but it
was the perfect place to hunker down as a pack for a while because not only were we surrounded by a vast amount of the wilderness of the Rocky Mountains where we could roam free and really stretch our legs. It was also perfect because it was the cornerstone between four packs. No one else knew this yet, but I was about to have a pack of happy wolves very soon.
With us normally spending only a couple of days with each pack (or one location), this would allow us to stay in one place for a week and to tell you the truth, everyone was looking forward to it. Tensions have been a little high lately because of being cooped up in the trucks and constantly on the move. When we were visiting packs, we tried to keep ourselves as low key as possible as to not bring any alarm. I could feel that my pack was restless and they had been not only bickering but fights had been breaking out over nothing. Aspen had warned me that they needed a break soon and I would have to agree with her. I myself had been easily frustrated, a little snappy at times and my sense of humour had become borderline rude. I felt like the weight of the world was solely on my shoulders and if I couldn’t pull this off, then we were doomed. Sure, I could just force every pack to obey while I was here, but then I would not be in a place to bring everyone together. No, they had to choose this with their own free will.
The trucks pulled into a park, just outside of town and we drove them to the farthest corner from the road that we could go. Everyone started hopping out. Some, running to the forest to relieve themselves and some happy to just be standing and able to burn off some energy. I looked around and even though we were very far from home, I couldn’t help but admire my view. Trees over 100 feet tall with rolling mountains in every direction you looked. The air was damp, meaning that there was a river nearby and I could not smell or sense another wolf for miles. Yes, this will be good- I thought to myself as Luca, Shadow, Willow and Aspen approached.
‘Luca, take the hunters to go get food. Shadow, take 3 warriors and scout the parameter then come back to help us. Aspen, Willow, Piper and I will begin masking the trucks, hoping to hide them from view and set up camp. We still have a few hours before daylight and even though it's a lot of work in a short time and I am happy to say that we will be resting here for a couple of days before we go to the first pack.”
Happy nods, smiles and sighs of relief expelled each of them before they set off to their tasks. I looked around and pointed to a few hills just through the trees and turned to Piper. “Do you think we can get the trucks through there and into the hills?”
“It might work...It’ll be a tight fit, but we can try” She replied as she directed some men and women to work together on that.
I think I was kinda getting used to this delegating thing, but a good Alpha is a hard working one and for that, they respected me because I worked right alongside them when s**t needed to get done. One thing that I admired about being part wolf was that there wasn’t any kind of gender oppression based on s*x. Men, women-it didn’t matter because we were all equal. Sure, the women still had kids, but not every woman was the nurturing type. Take my siblings for example- Willow was that calm, patient, nurturing wolf as she was a healer and had a much softer side whereas Shadow was a badass that led with an iron fist and there was no doubt in my mind that she was going to be the dominant mate. Aspen, well I was on the fence about her. Yes, she cared for the well being of the pack and had a gentle side but she had the ability to switch and kick my ass into next week! She knows how to have the perfect balance and I admired her for that. Luca, well he is just in his own little world. He had been the force to be reckoned with growing up, but now that he is the Beta and has found his mates, he has changed and everyone knows that his mates rule his world.
I admire each of them for their individual talents and I thank the Goddess everyday that we were able to not only learn the truth, but find them and be the family we were always meant to be. I continued to work away, bringing supplies to the area we were going to set up camp and when that was done, we began to set up the tents. We managed to pick up a couple of military tents from a surplus store and being that we were so used to the setup and tear downs, we managed to have everything ready by the time Luca returned with his hunters with our dinner and I more than happy to eat at this point as all of our stomachs were grumbling.
Unfortunately, dinner would have to wait because also Shadow returned with our warriors. The unfortunate part was that she was not alone and I thought it off that she had not linked me to tell me in advance. I stood in the middle of where we were making our small, temporary den while they walked toward us. Each and every one of my pack walked with an expression on their faces that they were proud of themselves? I watched in pure bewilderment as they approached and when they stopped before us, I could see twelve men and women from another pack ready for a fight. I searched each of them with my senses and found the Beta, and gave him a small nod before greeting him.
“I see you brought back some of my pack, just in time for dinner too. Thank you.” I commented as lightly as I could. He on the other hand did not think that was appropriate.
“You will gather yourselves and get off this land now!” He boomed, trying to force power behind his world. But he only became angrier when over half of my pack began to laugh right at him and his small attempt at power. I could see the rage forming on his face and before things could get out of hand, I raised my hand to silence my pack, which they did instantly. Luca came to stand by my side and joined in our conversation.
“Ya...I don’t think that is going to happen my friend. And your little display of power does not affect us. Hell, I think our Omegas were even laughing.” Luca spoke his opinion, and for a moment, I swear that was something I would have said before, but I had to be a little more diplomatic at this. The Beta, (whoever he was or which pack of the four he belonged to) began to growl. His warriors tried to look tough behind him, but I could tell they were shaking in their boots.
“Enough Luca. There is no reason to insult the man, even if it is true.” I spoke to him before turning back to the Beta in front of us to speak to him. “We are going to use this small area of land for the next week and then we will be on our way. Tell your Alpha that we will be by to see him or her soon.” (I made a mistake last week and made an ass of myself when I asked for the “him” Alpha at a pack border and I was not about to make that mistake again)
“Oh? And what makes you think you are sooooo special to just waltz onto our land, claim a piece of it for yourselves-albeit temporary, and we are just going to...what?...Accept that? Are you f*****g delusional?” He spat back, adding his own insults and trying to get a rise out of us. He got a rise out of most as they began to growl and again, all I had to do was raise my hand and they stopped instantly.
“I can assure you that we can go anywhere we please and no one can stop us. My Delta or any one of my warriors could have killed all of you the moment you approached them but they are civilized and choose to be diplomatic and respectful to you, unlike what most wolves would do. BUT, since you need a little convincing…” I paused, long enough to force my next message onto him. My eyes began to glow and I finished my sentence “Tell your Alpha that we are here in peace, needed a place to rest and to send for us in 2 days when we will speak with him.” The moment I stopped speaking, the glow died down and the look of utter shock and fear crossed each of their faces. It almost looked like they were going to pee themselves.
“But…It’s not possible!….How? We thought you all died?!?!?” Was all he could manage to say.
“I can assure you, we will answer all of your questions in 2 days. Now, if you don’t mind, my pack is hungry.” I finished before turning and walking away from them, Luca as well leaving them just standing there, frozen in place with such bewilderment on their faces. It took a few minutes for them to come to their senses, but he finally called back “We will see you in 2 days!” before they turned around and left.
‘Now that the drama is over, we eat and then we run!’ I linked everyone. The sighs of relief, cheers and thank you’s came right back at me. I finished with ‘tomorrow is a free day. Don’t go too far, but do whatever you wish to do within reason, just do not venture off alone.’ At this point, they didn’t care one bit. The feeling of happiness washed through me as they settled in to cook dinner and eat.
