More Memories

1040 Words
Kayla's POV I had so many memories of Mato growing up and running around the packhouse. The day his father showed up to the packhouse with a vampire! That was super scary yet exciting at the same time. (flashback starts) I was walking onto the porch, I felt a shift in the air and an insanely bloody scent wafted across my nose. I turned to see a huge man with black hair, deeply tanned skin with brown eyes standing next to a very pale blonde hair and a blue-eyed guy with a wildly sassy smirk on his lips. "Who, who are you?" I stuttered in shock. I didn't see a car or any vehicle for that matter. "Can you get Mato?" The blonde guy offered in a laughing voice. I was still starting, when his words kick-started me to go run and get the Alpha. I burst into the office to see Cacodemon and Amber with Mato. "There is a big bear and a vampire," I remember blurting out. "That is my father and Athens." I heard Mato say with a smile. I had been in the presence of the "cursed bear!?" I thought. Nobody I know had met him minus Mato and some of the older members of the Bear Moon pack. They left into the office and I had the chance to say I had seen the cursed bear. (End flashback) I told everyone I had gotten to see the cursed bear. It wasn't until later that I realized I had also met the oldest living vampire who is head of their council. I had never met anyone like that. He started coming back to work with Amber. Momma Dee also seemed a bit surprised that Mato had allowed the vampire to come. There were ripples of the people who were upset by him being here just like when Cacodemon had shown up. People always worry about safety. I had heard of what happened years ago when Mato's mate had been killed. How they weren't ready and why the pack now viewed outsiders with caution. Things started to even out after Cacodemon and Amber left to go be with the King and Queen of the werewolves. He had announced his protection on Bear Moon and that had settled some of those ruffled feathers so to speak. (Flashback begins) "I don't like all these people showing up." Huffed my dad to my mom. "Well, Cacodemon sent out a letter to all species in charge claiming his protection of us." My mother raised an eyebrow at my dad leaning back to see his response. "Doesn't matter, people will still try." My dad snorted. "Doubtful dear." My mom gave him a bright smile. "I have a feeling that this protection will keep much from trying us again." There was something in the way she said it that made me believe it. There was a confidence in it that bellied anything else. It was tangible, a warm blanket on a cold night feel. "Why are you so sure?" My father still holding his haughty I am right attitude. "Why would a demon know around the world. The very one supernaturals terrify their kids with announcing his protection to a pack of wolves and bears?" She raised her eyebrows then added. "Wouldn't that be beneath him and not worth the time unless he meant it." Even I knew she had a point. The others in the dining hall who had acted like they weren't listening but were made a point to listen regardless. I watched even their eyebrows raise. It created a safety net that I think helped the Bear Moon pack shift to a less worrying phase since the attack so long ago. (End of Flashback) It was a dawning of a new era. The thing began to blossom. People at Bear Moon began to step out into the open more. We had worried about everything. Covering their tracks or never straying from the few places we had agreed to. Now with the protection of Cacodemon, our pack began to branch out. Visiting family they hadn't seen in years at other packs and seeing things that they wanted. For instance, I watched my very first movie on the big screen! I got to shop at a huge mall in the city! there were so many new things to try knowing that we were protected was huge convince and blessing all in one. We began to have more balls, inviting more packs and making alliances with others. Mato was branching out and gaining a group of Alphas that would have his back as we would have theirs. So many people wanted to know how he had gained Cacodemon's protection. His answer every time was our pack has saved Cacodemon's mate. Each Alpha that asked understood instantly. I am currently sitting on the back porch swing. It's been two days since I found out that my long-time crush was my mate. My parents had lost their collective minds. It was the worst event in my life. They were disgusted with him being my mate. They said he was too old. That he had watched me growing up. Then asked if he knew I was his when I was a baby. Tempers flared and my parents stormed off even madder when I said I was staying here. Momma Dee had held me all night last night as I cried. They were not what I thought they were. So set I should marry someone my age and a different bear. They had it all planned and arranged. They weren't going to tell me until after the ceremony. That I was going to have a marriage of contract. What If I had a mate? It was not even going to be considered an option. I would marry this man I never met as he was supposed to be able to keep me safe. The thing was, Mato the first generation cursed bear's son was my mate. His whole pack including me as I am now and in the role as his mate would have the added layer of protection by Cacodemon. I don't think they realized the mess that was about to take place. Neither did I.
