CHAPTER 05
“It was just rumored circulating, don’t deal with it. Some were words were created due to the employee's boredom.” Mierin said but she suddenly stopped, her expression suddenly changed.
Fendice noticed it and asked, “What’s the matter?”
Mierin turned to him, quite hesitant at first but decided to speak, “There were also other rumors circulating.” her voice low
Fendice frowned, “What rumors?”
Meirin looked at him seriously, “That some employees had seen you with another man. Some rumors even specifically spread that you were cheating on your marriage and some were saying that you and Shawn are already divorced.” Her words were slow and emphasized but it bothered her inside, eyes staring at Fendice seriously.
Fendice absorbed those words and was late to react, he just raised his brows and sighed silently.
Things had already escalated this way, he already made the act but he didn’t want to drag Lin on this kind of problem, and at the right timing, he knew he need to be separated from that man.
But in that line of thought, there seemed to be a strike of pain in his heart which made him frown.
Mierin didn’t see any changes in him when she spoke again, “Fendice, are you really that determined to divorce Mr. Liu?” her tone passive
Fendice raised his head just to meet the lady’s gaze, in some way, Mierin became a whole lot different person these past recent days. She became too quiet and always deep in thought, she would never pester him anymore like she usually does and would be in a daze for some time.
“Mierin, don’t trouble yourself with…our matter.” he tried to speak it in a polite tone, didn’t dare to offend his best friend that went ocean and storms with him, “This marriage has never been proper. Shawn…” he frowned when his voice suddenly cracked when he mentioned his name because a vision of smiling sweetly at him came to his mind. Fendice frowned deeper.
But seeing Mierin was listening to him, he braced himself to say, “We’re both strangers, we are not compatible with each other from any angle.”
Since from the very start, they are not meant for each other.
Silence fell on the room, neither of them spoke any longer.
But Mierin opened her mouth, “You…don’t love him?”
Hearing those words, Fendice stared at Mierin with a complicated look. The lady in front of him gives off a different vibe that was unknown to him, she seemed to be a whole different person as her usually bright eyes turned dim and lifeless as she return the gaze. Her expression was stiff and cold.
Fendice faintly chuckled at her words despite her sudden change of attitude, “There’s no love between us.”
He didn’t see Mierin twitched from his words, her hands trembled lightly beside her. She didn’t take her eyes from Fendice as she opened her mouth to say something when the door sounded. There was a knock.
“Come in.” Fendice called then the door swung open and Mr. Xie, Shawn’s secretary came in, “Sir, Mr. Liu is waiting for you in the car.”
Fendice’s mood suddenly dropped down, “Shawn?”
“Yes Sir.”
“But I have something to do here.” Fendice didn’t like any unplanned demand.
“Sir said you should cancel it.” Mr. Xie paused then continued, “’ Refer to the last warning,’ as what Mr. Liu said.” The man said politely
Fendice twitched from that man’s cheekiness. How can he be this so daring at all times?!
“Sir, I think you shouldn’t anger Mr. Liu any longer,” Mierin said
Cornered by these two people, Fendice could only massage his forehead and stood.
“What do he want this time?” he asked Mr. Xie
“Mr. Liu said he wanted for both of you to visit his household and send greetings to his parents personally.” The man answered
Fendice was startled, “This sudden?”
Fendice left Meirin tasks to do while he’s away for a short while and when Mr. Xie led Fendice towards the car, Fendice can’t help but think that Shawn looked more dashing today. He’s wearing a long black coat with a scarf around his neck, his hair that was usually tied neatly was stretched to its normal state, making him look normally ‘handsome’.
It’s already late Autumn and the wind is getting colder as the winter approaches.
Fendice stopped when he reached Shawn who was leaning by the car, the man was already smiling when he approached.
“Why visit your parents so suddenly?” he asked immediately. His first contact with Shawn’s parents was still on the first month of their marriage where he was still eager to get a promotion while working on the Liu. They would meet him often and have a chat but the moment he got transferred to his father’s company. He was occupied with work and had no time to visit them and he never wanted to talk to Shawn so he no longer had the chance to talk to them.
Shawn straightened and replied, “It wasn’t sudden. They already sent a message to have us visit them. Mother is sick so father wanted to warm her with our presence.”
Fendice eyes widened, “Your mother is sick?” suddenly, he felt regretful that he didn’t make the effort to send greetings and visit them. His in-laws were good and kind, they were not intimidating unlike their son so he truly felt regretful.
He immediately asked, “Should we stop by to bring some fruits? Does your mother like anything?”
Seeing him like this made Shawn smile, he never show any kind of emotion when they were alone, “Don’t worry, I already stopped by bringing some fruits and pies for her. All we need to do now is to drive there, are you coming?”
“Of course, I’m coming.” Fendice didn’t wait for him any longer and walked to open the door for the back seat when Shawn stopped him.
“You sit beside me, I’ll drive.” The man said
“You will?” Fendice can’t help but ask seeing that Mr. Xie was no longer around
“We will stay overnight there so I need Mr. Xie to handle things in the office,” Shawn said
“Overnight? You didn’t say anything.” Fendice felt like he’s going crazy from the revelations.
Shawn just leaned to kiss him by the cheek, “Don’t worry, you’ll never be bored there.”
