Unknown POV
I stand on top of the waterfall. I know I am not supposed to be here in the territory of the Storm Forest Pack. However, I have concealed myself and my wolf so nobody can smell or detect me. What is Noah and his pack up to now? Why is the poor she-wolf being thrown into the river?
I wait until the warriors walk away. I dive into the river from the waterfall. I cannot let her die. I first have to find out what her crime was. The Storm Forest Pack is known for their unfair treatment of their members, and as the King and Head of the Shadow Lords, I cannot allow an innocent she-wolf to die.
The Shadow Lords are made up of six members. We are the strongest of the Alphas from Hybrids and Werewolves. We ensure all the Hybrid and Werewolves Packs are safe from their Alphas. We were trained by the best. The old Werewolves and Hybrids of the Werewolf and Hybrid Council trained us. The WHC, as we call the council, ensures that Werewolves and Hybrids get along. Only some Werewolf Packs think they are better than Hybrids, like the Storm Forest Pack, which bans Hybrids from its packs. The WHC authorizes us to protect the Hybrids in those Packs, and I think the she-wolf they threw into the river with her hands tied must be a Hybrid.
My cape flies in the wind as I dive down from the waterfall to the bottom of the river. We are also assassins. If an Alpha gets out of hand, he gets assassinated by us.
Noah Black is pushing his boundaries! Not only does he treat Hybrids like they are below him, but he is also trying to take the Hybrid’s Pack grounds.
We do not like war. We will instead assassinate an alpha that becomes too cocky. If this is a Hybrid, I must report it to the WHC. Although I am the king and head off the Shadow Lords, I cannot act alone. I have to get the permission of the WHC. If he depended on me, I would have killed Noah long ago. However, the Storm Forest Pack is an old Pack. We would not like to see them disappear. We have to prevent a war. They may do better with a new Alpha. But that is not up to me.
The Black family is an old family. Many of the members of the WHC were friends with the old Alpha. They respected the old man. His son was passive. Although he did not like hybrids, he did not mind them. He left them alone. He banished them from his back, but he never sought to kill them. His grandson, Noah, is another case. We suspect that the old man’s son was killed by his own son, Noah. Rogues killed him, but Rogues can be hired to do a hit on an Alpha. He was let into an ambush. We think his son planned that ambush, but we cannot prove anything.
The Storm Forest Pack keeps their business to themselves, and no one knows if the Alpha has a mate yet. The WHC sent me a message to keep an eye on them, so I’m here tonight. I am glad I came to see what they were doing. If I were not here tonight, the she-wolf would have died. I cannot allow that to happen. I have to save her.
We are not only assassins. We are also protectors. We protect the innocent from being murdered by their own Alphas and Packs. I want to hear her side of the story. And if she did nothing wrong, they are going to pay. No one deserves to die for something they did not do.
The river is deep, but I’m strong and trained to dive deep. At last, I reached her, and I hope I’m not too late. I pick her up in my arms and start swimming to the opposite side of the river.
That side of the river does not belong to the Storm Forest Pack. Although they are trying hard to get a hold of that piece of land, it belongs to The Thunder River Pack. The Thunder River Pack is a hybrid pack.
At last, I reached the river banks and put her on the grass. I removed the ropes from her arms. I want a wolf to heal her. She is still breathing but coughing up a lot of water. I know I have little time to question her before the Warriors of the Thunder River Pack arrive. They would have picked up somebody entering their territory. Although I can hide myself and my wolf, I cannot hide her and her wolf. I hope that she comes too quickly. I need to know what happened to her and why she was thrown into the river. I can feel that she is a hybrid, and I know that is the reason. However, the claw marks and the broken bones on her body are a concern to me. Who has beaten her up while she was not able to protect herself?
Attacking a werewolf or a hybrid incapable of fighting back is unacceptable. The wolfbane has made her and her wolf weak and unable to fight! This is something I expect from Noah. He is a coward. He cannot even fight a she-wolf by himself. Was he the one who attacked her while she was not able to defend herself? I do not know, but I am planning to find out.
I take her hand in mine and use my powers to heal her faster.
However, her wolf is doing an excellent job, as I can see that her wounds are healing fast. I suspect that her wolf has magical powers. She must be a hybrid of a werewolf and a witch—the same as me.
The coughing stops, and she rolls to her side. Her eyes slowly open. She has the most beautiful blue eyes, complementing her dark hair. My white clothes and cape flap in the wind as it dries quickly.
“Where am I? Am I in paradise? Are you an angel?” She asks.
“No, you are still alive, but I saved you from the river. Why did they throw you in the river?” I ask.
“Did you see them from me in the river? I was the Luna of the Pack. Although Noah only marked me, he never completed our mate bond. I was not good enough for them as around my hybrid. He did not want to chase me out of the pack as he was worried that I would give him trouble later on. We were mates. I think he was afraid that I would find another mate and he would feel the pain of my rejection. He also did not want me to join the Thunder River Pack. He was afraid I would make trouble for him. He plans to go to war with his uncle Ryder of the Thunder River Pack. I do not know why I’m telling you all of this. Who are you? Why did you save me? Why can’t I smell you? Are you hiding your scent from everybody? Why does it feel like I know you?” She asks.
“I am the person who saved you. That is all you need to know. It’s for your own good. I cannot say long, as the Thunder River Pack will be here soon. They must have picked up on you by now. Noah will pay for his misdeeds against you. Is he the one that attacked you and gave you all those wounds?” I ask.
“It was a mate’s lover, Zaria Cromwell. I could not protect myself because of the wolfbane ropes. I don’t want you to take them on. I want to take my revenge. Not only did they hurt me, but they also almost killed me. If it were not for you, I would have been dead by now. I will forever be in your debt.” She says.
“What is your name?” I ask. I know I will have to hurry up as I can hear the footsteps of the Thunder River Pack Warriors coming closer.
“My name is Clara Howard,” Clara says.
“Stay here, Clara. You will be safe here. The Thunder River Pack will take good care of you. I know there are good people. I have to go. We will see each other again soon. Be safe. Do not try to take revenge on your own. Ryder Black is a good Alpha. He will take you in, and he will help you. However, we cannot afford a war right now. There are bigger things we need to worry about that you won’t understand right now. I need to go,” I say as I get up and run into the forest.
I hate leaving her behind, but I have no choice now. I know she’s special to me. My wolf is shouting in my head. I cannot reveal my feelings to her. I need to hide my scent and wolf.
“Mate!” My wolf shouts, but I ignore him as I run away.
