Lucas' POV:
"Lucas I need your help", Lincoln approaches me.
"I got things to do Link", I sigh.
"It's about Melina, she wouldn’t look at me and seems to trust Lydia more”, he sigh.
“She’s been through a lot Link”, I remind him, “it’s only a few days pass”, I add.
“I know, but my wolf wants to be around her a lot and it’s driving us crazy that she wouldn’t acknowledge me or don’t look my way when I’m near her”, he whines.
“Give her time, this is all new to her”, Derrick retorts.
“I’ll try, if I can get her alone with me that’ll be good”, he smiles and leaves.
Oh boy.
“He didn’t listen to a single thing we told him, did he?” Derrick asks.
“Nope, so what are we going to do today?” I turn to my future Beta.
“Patrol?”
“Wolf form?”
He nods and we both shift, I’ll tell my mother to bring us clothes later when we’re done.
We run into the forest toward the border where the warriors are on duty.
‘Alpha, Beta what are you doing here?’ Xander the warrior leader asks through mind link.
‘We came to see how you are doing at the border’, I reply.
‘It’s quiet for now, a few warriors aren’t far from here near the road keeping watch for anything suspicious’, he explains.
‘Good, caution will do us good, you don’t mind if we stay here for a while, don’t you?’
‘Of course not, it’s your pack Alpha; you can do whatever you please.’
‘Good, then you and one of your two of your warriors can take the rest of the day off’, I say.
‘Are you sure?’
‘Yes, this is an Alpha and Beta you’re talking about, we can handle ourselves plus much stronger.’
‘As you wish Alpha’, he bows and leaves with two of his warriors.
I turn to Derrick and he goes off to the south side of the border while I go east, this should be an interesting next couple of hours.
****
A few hours later, the sun is about to set in an hour or so and I get to interact with a few more members; they’ll just have to let me see their faces in human form so I can remember them.
‘Alpha, we got trouble’, a warrior mind link me.
‘Where?’
‘North, near the road.’
‘On my way.’
I mind link Derrick and Xander who suppose to almost finishing up training session.
‘Trouble at north near the road.’
‘On my way.’
‘I’m coming.’
I run as fast as I can to the boarder where a warrior in is human form is lying on the ground, with a gunshot womb in his chest and breathing quickly.
‘What happened?’
‘He got seen by human men and they shot him before disappearing on the other side of the road, I thought they would have came for the rest of us so we hid, but they didn’t even turn back.’
Derrick and Xander arrive.
‘Get him back to the house, let’s go hunt those bastards down’, I say to Xander then turn to the other twenty something warriors that came.
‘I want to come Alpha, I’m a good tracker’, Xander says.
‘We need you here to keep an eye in case more shows up, protect the pack’, I order.
‘With my life.’
‘I want at least fifteen warriors with me; the others stay here and protect the boarder!” I order and we run to the road, but stop.
How are we going to cross if vehicles are passing a lot?
‘We’ll go three at a time once the coast is clear, don’t get seen’, I turn the group of wolves.
Derrick, a warrior and I cross first once the coast is clear, this continues until everyone is on the other side.
‘Be careful, this is the first time I been on this side and don’t know what to expect.’
‘I been here before, there’s a nice waterfall where the humans go to chill not fat from here’, a warrior says.
‘Good, lead the way and be cautious; we don’t know where the men went’, I state.
‘Actually, I can find them, I have an excellent nose that can track scent’, Derrick says.
‘Okay Derrick, you lead the way then.’
It’s already getting dark so I don’t want these warriors out here in this strange place too long.
20 minutes later
I hear a snap of twigs not far from here, thanks our amazing hearing sense, we all stop and I tell everyone to split up but we careful.
“Do you think we’ll find her around here? I’m sure that wolf I shot earlier, his kind probably ate her”, a man says,
“She’s still alive, I can feel it plus we track down her phone to this area didn’t we?” another guy states.
“Yes, but it can be anywhere boss, she’s a smart girl.”
“She’s too destroy to be left alive, if she goes to the authorities we’re all screwed, so we got to find her and kill her before she does”, he snaps.
As I walk closer through the bushes, I see there are about eight men with guns and suit up with bullet proof jacket.
“Boss it’s getting dark, don’t you think it’s time we go back before who knows what kind of creatures come out at night?” The same guy asks.
“Don’t tell me you’re scared Bert, remember you’re the one who signed up for this”, the boss laughs, “spread out, it’s only been a few days, she couldn’t have got far with little money to no money.”
“I bet she’s died of starvation by now or got killed by one of those wolves”, another comments.
“Shut up and spread out, kill anything that moves”, he orders.
‘Attack or scare?’ Derrick them.
‘Pick them off one by one, we don’t want to alarm all of them at the same time, leave the leader to me.’
‘Sure thing.’
After they spread out, I follow the leader not far behind.
“Where are you Melina? I have some unfinished business with you princess”, he mutters.
Melina? As in Lincoln’s mate? What does he want with her?
He’s not getting her, I’ll make sure of that.
I attack him unexpectedly, he put him a good fight and graze my skin a little but I won in the end.
_____
When I got to the boarders I tell everyone not to mention anything about us going after the men, we just patrol the boarders, by the time I got to the pack house in clear clothing my graze is heal.
Dad calls me to his office after dinner, the whole pack is talking about the warrior that got shot.
“Why didn’t you go after those men? What if they track more of us down and kill us all?” He asks.
I smile.
“Why are you smiling? It isn’t a joke Lucas”, he snaps, “as soon to be alpha, you have to start to take things serious.”
“Dad, I did track them and we kill all eight men, I didn’t want the pack to know because they were looking for Melina; Lincoln wouldn’t have let Melina have her space if he found out men were after her”, I explain.
“I understand, good job son and thanks for protecting the pack”, dad says.
“It’s my duty, isn’t it? Not like I had a choice”, I got up and leave.
“Your first day patrolling the boarder and someone was attack, you truly bad luck”, Lydia teases me as I walk to my room.
“Shut up, don’t you have Melina to go entertain or something?”
“Nah, Catalina is with her right now; so is the guy madly wounded?”
“With his speedily healing ability, he’ll be fine at least it didn’t hit his heart”, I say and open the door.
“This time, it was a close call, you be careful alright.”
“I will, thanks”, I enter my room and lock my door.
What a day.
