A Disastrous Meeting

The phoenix, that Sophronia is, flew and hover in a ring of sorts that was above them. As she flew upon it, it lit like a torch. The majestic bird slowly disintegrates into a stream of magic and brought back Sophronia right in their very eyes. “The opening ritual is always as majestic every year.” A young lady said beside Patricia. She was as mesmerized as the others and her. It was indeed magical, especially for her that’s new to the world. “Go forth and show your excellence in the academy. The 18th year of the Phoenix Era of the Pristine Academy has now officially started.” The crowd of students cheer and the faculty clap in glee. A woman with green hair walks up to the stage and took the spotlight for a brief moment. “Good morning students, especially the freshmen. Please refer to your maps and your schedules. You will give 5 minutes to wander around before class will start. For those who wish to wander around the campus for a while, you will be given 5 minutes until the class starts.” The green-haired woman left the stage as the students started to disperse. Patricia can’t even wrap her head around how many students there were in the opening program. Almost every nook of the floor space in front of the administrative building was full. She looks at them as they walk away and went to their usual business. “A prestigious school… One that has a lot of students that I expected.” The disappointment was evident in her voice, “Here’s me thinking I am special.” She laughs to herself, “You’re a joke Patricia for thinking that.” She looks around and decided to wander around for a while. She never set foot on the school grounds until now. She was too busy in the past couple of days to wander around the school. Five minutes should be enough for her, right? She decided to walk towards a big library of sorts that was just nearby the administrative building. She was mesmerized by how fancy the buildings were in this academy. Some students are already going to the library. It was too many that Patricia thought there was something in it much more than being a library. She decided to check it out and approached it. As she was walking towards it, she heard someone shouting rather harshly at someone. She turns her head, noticing three students were causing a fuss near the stairs. She decided to retract from her quest on checking out the library and approached the three. “No one dared to bump into me ever since I was born into this world,” an arrogant voice was heard in their direction. “Let it be known to you that you are trying to cause an argument with the descendant of one of Caelum’s prestige family.” The brunette-haired girl with a hazel complexion wasn’t fazed by the threats she was being thrown on. “It does not warrant you to take into the heart a simple bump. Besides, I hail from the Rossian regions, I don’t care about the nobility that the Caelum faction presides on believing on.” The black-haired girl was offended by the victim’s lack of fear after what she just said. “Then it is settled then!” She raises her hand and tried to charge the poor girl as Patricia slides in and catches her wrist mid-air. A wave of strength just faded out of her body as she pushes the girl away from the one who was getting oppressed. Patricia opens her eyes as the two girls who were bullying the other were seen laying on the floor. Shards of crystals were around her again and some of it are hovering on the two girls, forbidding them to be able to get up and possibly attack her again. The two were surprised by the sudden turn of events. One of them turned pale as she realized that multiple shiny yet pointy things were pointed at her threateningly. The black-haired girl looks at her, “A violent young lady! Are you trying to threaten my life?” Patricia realized the weight of the situation she was in. Along with it, the glow of the crystals around them turned dim. Soon then, they suddenly dropped to the ground, shattering into nothingness. No one was hurt, there’s that. The bully stands up and charges at her. Before she can even lay her hands on her, some authoritative voice suddenly spoke up. “What’s the fuss in here?” They turned their heads and saw a girl with straight ginger hair crossing her arms. She was along with a girl with golden brown hair that seemed to have gone overboard with her hair accessories. The black-haired girl that almost hurt Patricia suddenly froze in her place. “Ah!” She laughs awkwardly, “Isn’t it Vivian herself? The splendid daughter of the Vice-Chancellor herself!” Patricia was frozen in place as well as she heard the words ‘daughter’ and ‘Vice-Chancellor’. She looks at the young lady named Vivian. With her posture, she seems like an authority here in the school. Vivian glares at the black-haired who was acting innocent, “Care to explain what happened?” The oppressor didn’t hesitate and told them pure lies, “She started it and this blonde brat almost killed me.” The ginger girl was unfazed and laughs at her, “You really thought that I didn’t see everything?” The black-haired girl laughs awkwardly, “Maybe we could talk about this? It’s not what you think!” “Let’s talk to the Vice-Chancellor’s office.” She looks at everyone, “You all need to see my mother, right now. Even you, miss.” She looks at the brunette girl with a bubble ponytail who’s looking at the ground right now, embarrassed of what happened. They were escorted to the administrative building. The last time Patricia was here was for her enrollment. On the first day in her school and she already has done something that will punish her. They entered the office of the Vice-Chancellor where she met Sophronia once more, sitting on her chair along with a bunch of files scattered neatly on her desk. She looks at them and the disappointment in her eyes could be seen as her sight lands on Patricia. She sighs heavily, “What is it, Vivian?” “Mo—“ Vivian clears her throat, “Mrs. Bethel-Craith, they were fighting near The Great Library. Miss Kisslurl here harassed Miss Hodson here because of what it seems to be a small bumping incident.” “Correction, I am just teaching her a lesson—“ The vice-chancellor glares at Miss Kisslurl and looks back at her daughter, “Continue.” Vivian fixes herself, “As I was saying, Miss Prudent here tried to save Miss Maile but does it so by using magic on the school grounds, unsupervised, and almost have injured a fellow student. I believe Miss Kisslurl, Miss Cartledge, and Miss Prudent have broken one or more rules according to the Pristine Academy Law and Order Handbook.” Sophronia looks at the brunette girl who was still looking down, “Is this all true, Miss Maile?” The latter nods but Miss Kisslurl tried to defend herself. “This Maile girl started it. She bumped into me and tried to run without even saying sorry. Why isn’t she getting punished?” “Are you talking highly in my very office, Miss Kisslurl?” The vice-chancellor looks at her, “May I remind you that you are carrying one of the most prestigious surnames in Caelum? Such behavior will not be appropriate for a family known for its reservation and social etiquette.” “Well, she used that card to reason her arrogance—“ Sophronia glares at Patricia, “Now I know why your grandmother has requested us to keep an eye on you. The very first day in the first year you have got yourself in trouble.” Patricia sighs, “It was an accident, I couldn’t control any of my powers.” Sophronia raises her hand and closes it, shutting her mouth. “Explain yourself later.” She sighs and sets aside the paperwork she was doing and looks at the two bullies, “The two of you should go in a 2-hour detention.” Then she looks back at Patricia, “And you, you stay here. The rest of you could go.” Before Vivian left the room with Miss Maile, she was stopped by her mother. “Vivian, please tell Miss Stanton to come here.” The ginger girl nods and left the office. Patricia waited for a few awkward minutes of silence until the door opens, revealing a lady with straight green hair. “What do you need of me, Mrs. Bethel-Craith?” The vice-chancellor looks at her, “Please take a seat.” The teacher took the seat across from Patricia who can’t look at her. “This is Miss Patricia Prudent, a first-year. She came from the Earth and has already caused troubles in the first few minutes on her first day.” The professor looks at her, “Oh my, what have you done, young lady?” Patricia looks at them, “I swear, it wasn’t my fault. I didn’t mean to do anything drastic like that.” Sophronia looks at Miss Stanton, “That’s why I called you here, another one that has the same problem with the students you have been dealing with before. I know you are capable of fixing them, right?” The green-haired woman giggles, “I knew that’s the reason you called me, Mrs. Bethel-Craith.” Patricia looks at her, “What does this mean? What problems? Why do I need fixing?” Sophronia looks at her, “You said it yourself, you can’t control your powers. It’s fairly common for Armentiels especially those who didn’t have any preparatory classes for these.” She sighs, “Which I question your grandmother why she did that.” “Don’t worry, Mrs. Bethel-Craith, I’ll handle her and she’ll be using her powers wisely in no time.” She looks at Patricia, “Since classes are starting, I think we should talk about this in much more detail after school. Are you okay with that, Miss Prudent?” Patricia nods, “Yes, Miss Stanton.” The professor smiles, “If you may excuse us, Mrs. Bethel-Craith, we should be going now, and we should not bother you anymore.” They both left the office. “You should be going to your class now. Speaking of, what is it?” Patricia looks at her schedule, “It says it’s…. Pris… tinity class?” “Oh! It’s my class. If that’s so then follow me.” They left the administrative building and went to yet another building that looks more a lot like a school in a castle-like style with its format and details. They entered the big door and went to the first room in the hallways. She arrived on a classroom with a stadium arrangement and there are quite a lot of students in the room now. It seems she’s the only one left who still doesn’t have any seat. Miss Stanton gestures her to take her seat as the students stand to formally greet her. “Good morning everyone, take your seats.” The students shifted their focus to the professor in front. “I am Miss Cassidy Stanton, your teacher for your Pristinity subject. Please call me Miss Cassidy, I am not fond with formal nicknames toward my students.” She requested for everyone to introduce themselves before teaching them the first lesson of their first subject. It’s all about the different tiers of magic archetypes and intensity of magic. Patricia didn’t focus in the class as her mind was boggled a lot about how would she fare in this school when she can’t control herself. She can’t believe that she almost injured someone again. She didn’t caught up anything that Miss Cassidy has taught them. Her notebook for the subject was empty for the rest of the class. She sighs and before she knows it, the class ended. She gathered her things and left the room with her mind still occupied of what happened earlier. She took a glimpse of her schedule and found she have half an hour for the preparation of her other subjects. While she was looking at her schedule, she suddenly felt an opposing force that pushed her on the ground. “Oh heavens! Apologies!”
