VERGLAS (Complete)

TRUTH OF IDENTITY

The sun is shining high above in the light blue canvas, covered partially with the clouds; still giving it’s warmth down below, where the temperature is decreasing with every step near to the destination.

Daphne is driving from more than six hours without any stops in between, except for using the restroom or getting the fuel refilled. She is completely exhausted, that can be easily seen from her bloodshot eyes but still focus on the road, if any enemy lurking decides to show up. Another big issue is that Silver is still in her deep sleep, which making Daphne worried to the core. She wanted to take her to the hospital but the circumstances are not quite fair right now, more she don’t want to take any risk, when she is too near to the destination, the place Elijah told her about.

She keeping working on the wheels as the driveway to the place is hardly 20 minutes away. She is standing on one’s last leg and the nearer she gets to the point of disembarkation, feebler she is. Finally she reaches the town, where the safe house is located, she pulls out the phone and she checks the address she is suppose to be and stops her car in front of a small unauthorized shop, she get out of the car and proceed to the shop, “Can I have a bottle of water, maybe 2 if I am lucky.” Daphne ask politely to the shop owner, who is an old lady, she handed 2 bottles of packaged drinking water bottles to her and takes the money from the other hand, returning the change.

“if you don’t mind, can you please tell where is this place is? I have been looking for it.” Daphne shows the address to the old lady to which she guided her directions to the place, “thank you” Daphne greets and drive into the town. After a half an hour, she finds the location of safe house. She sighs in relief.

She stops finally at the front of an old Victorian style build mansion, which appears to be quite spacious. She parks her car in the parking area and head towards the main door. She ring the bell but got no response, so she decided to wait, but not for too long as she already feeling fragile. She decided to call Elijah as he is the one who recommended this safe house, after few bells the call gets disconnects. Daphne is fuming in building anger. She went up to the door and knock hard, really hard, like she will burst inside by breaking the door.

She heard the climbing sound of door unlocking, so she took some steps back. The door opens wide and tall, muscular figure comes into the light, rubbing his eyes from his disturbed sleep. His ocean green eyes met with same pair of ocean green eyes, Daphne gasps, “Elijah?”

She was surprised to see him here, she had no thought of meeting him soon but he was standing in front of her, scratching the back of his neck. The floodgates open and Daphne hugs him tightly, she don’t want to lose any part of him, “Brother, I can’t tell how happy I am to see you.”

“Aren’t you happy to see me?” Elijah eyed at her, Daphne rolled her eyes, “of course I am; now I am going to sleep and please just manage with everything, especially Silver, she is still in the car with other stuff” Daphne huffed and went inside the mansion. Elijah looks at her with his mouth open wide, “you left her in the car? Are you crazy?” he yells at her, “No! I am worn out, seriously. I can’t take it anymore. I need some rest for f**k sake, or I will definitely go berserk.” Daphne yells and went to the first room she found.

Elijah looks completely dumbstruck, but shrugged and reached to the car. He gently opens the passenger door and pulls Silver out. He picks her up in bridal style and took inside to a vacant room. He puts her unconscious body on the bed, very carefully observes her features, “So beautiful, just like a goddess.” He whispers to himself. He went out to bring other stuff that was in the car and hide the car later, somewhere in the woods.

It is almost 7 in the evening, Elijah, preparing dinner in the kitchen. Daphne wakes up by the delicious aroma of her favorite pasta, not able to resist herself; she went to the kitchen following the aroma. “Yumm! Pasta! I really missed this delicious pasta.” Daphne dips her finger in the pasta and licks it, ‘Hey! Don’t you dare? Where is your manner girl?” he snaps at her hand and she pouts real sweetly. “Go and get Silver, she must be hungry too.” Elijah orders Daphne, “s**t!! I forgot about her. Is she still unconscious?” Daphne startled.

Elijah saw her getting tense, he put his hand on her shoulder and replies to her quest, “Actually, she is in deep sleep. That happen when you consume whole energy of your body, so it’s get shutdown automatically.” Daphne looks confuse as she did not get what exactly Elijah said. “Let me explain you in a simple way” he took his phone out of his pocket, “this is Silver, and her battery is drained, so she shutdown herself, until she gets recharged. Deep sleep is the charger that is recharging her body.”

Daphne is amused by her brother’s statement, “And how do you know all this?” she ask curiously. Elijah sighs and replies to her, “I served in army for more than 100 years Daph, it is silly to ask me that how I know such things. I work almost a century to learn all these facts. You know I am beauty with brain.” Elijah chuckled and Daphne rolls her eyes, “Yeah! Ugly and ass.”

Both of them made faces to tease each other, than Daphne went to the room where Silver is still sleeping. She notices that she looks whiter, like porcelain. Her hair went back to the same grey shade but more lustrous. She caresses her cheeks but her skin felt icy cold. She got panic and checks her body temperature, which seems to be quite low. “Elijah.” Daphne shouts, holding her hands with Silver’s.

Elijah hurriedly gets into the room, “what happen?” he seems to be worried. “Silver is too cold. We have to take her to the doctor.” Daphne suggests, “No we can’t take her to a clinic, she is a caillech. Do you want a human to treat her?” Elijah yells at her, Daphne came back to her senses, “but she look..” she stops without completing her sentence.

“She looks what? Dead?” Elijah yells. “Don’t be stupid Daphne. It was her first time to handle such powers by herself; her body is taking time to heal. Cool down. Let me see, what I can do.” Elijah approaches Silver, she looks extremely whiter. “She lost all pigments from the body. Look at her eyelashes, they are turning white. Something is different and unusual.” Elijah said while observing her.

“Wait! What are you saying? Different? Unusual?” Daphne asks in irritable tone, Elijah nodded his head and replies, “I have never seen or heard about a caillech like her, first thing, no caillech use able to use their power before turning 18. Second, the new being is not that powerful to kill anyone, and she doesn’t even know any combat techniques. Third, she is different in appearance that other caillech.” Daphne narrows her brow, trying to understand what he is saying actually.

“I still did not get you.” Daphne rolls her eyes. Elijah sigh deeply, “Have you ever seen a caillech having unusual hair color? I guess no. look at us, we are almost look like a normal human, we are more than 200 years old, but we did not lack any pigment. But she did, since she used her powers, she is lacking pigments. This is something that never happen before in our kingdom.” Elijah looks directly into Daphne’s eyes. Daphne widens her eyes as she is getting everything Elijah explained to her. “Yes, you are right. When I met her, she was pale, like a normal girl, and I remember that she told me when we were in motel that she is experiencing some changes in her body, her eyes were getting bluish grey instead of blue and something that I can’t remember now.”

Daphne sat on the vacant chair and rubs her temples, “is she really a caillech or she is something else?” Elijah sits beside her and put one arm on her shoulder, “but she was born inside the kingdom, and queen, she gave you this responsibility to keep her safe. But why she did this? I mean keeping Silver away from the kingdom, all these years, did she already know about her?”

There was an awkward silence between the siblings, both of them trying to consume the new information. Daphne stands and walks to the bed sitting next to Silver. She looks at him and speaks in a low tone, “I don’t know, it could be possible because the queen knows about her past. That means, she must know, what exactly Silver is, and the reasons of keeping her away from everyone. The only way to find out this f*****g mystery is to confront the queen.” After a long pause, Daphne asks Elijah, “Elijah we need to take her there, now. Let’s go.”

Elijah stood and stops Daphne, “where are you going crazy pants? Did you forget about the Jotuns? They must be looking for you. We can’t do anything rash. We need a plan to escape and we have to wait till she wakes up. We need to know what happen that night.” Elijah shrugs and shook his head. Daphne looks perplexed, she was flabbergasted. Elijah patted her back and asks her, “Let’s have dinner now. You must be hungry.” Daphne nods and went down to the kitchen.

In the room, Silver lying on bed; suddenly start to shake badly, she murmurs something inaudible, she might be having a nightmare. She stops suddenly and opens her eyes, which turned grey with a thin lining of blue, and then she screams at top of her lungs.
