Beth remained still for seconds. She only knew Michael wanted to marry her. But it seemed that Michael knew much more about her.
Michael knew what had happened two years ago. He asked her father to get Claire and Lily move out. Was that for her?
For some reason, Beth had a strange feeling.
As for Beth’s relatives? They were silent. They might have thought they could get some luck to mistake Beth and Lily. But now, they all knew that Beth was special to Michael even if the relationship was started from his grandfather and the medium.
Vincent looked around and then made a decision. “Mr. Stone, they will leave my house soon.”
“Vincent!” Tracy gazed at him in shock. Claire and Lily were pale.
“Be silent!” Vincent shouted angrily. Tracy pursed her lips at once.
Beth sneered. For Vincent, money was the most important thing. He might have favored Lily, but when she was compared with the land, she was not that important.
Michael nodded his head. “Beth needs to rest. You may leave now.”
Vincent nodded and smiled. He led the other three women out of the room.
There were only Michael and Beth left there.
Beth looked at Michael and asked, “Except for asking Lily and her mother to move out, are there any other conditions?”
She remembered that Michael said adding a condition.
“Your father didn’t tell you?” Michael gazed at her. “I asked him to get you home.”
“Get your land back. I will never go back to that home.” Beth said coldly. What had happened two years ago broke her heart and since that time she had nothing to do with the Gages. And there was no chance for her to forgive them!
Michael didn’t expect that. The relationship between Beth and her parents was worse than he thought.
What had happened two years ago? Why was Beth so resentful for that? Michael hadn’t found information about that. And there was no possibility for him to get to know from the Gages. He must send Joey to do another round of investigation.
“Alright. If you don’t want to go home, then don’t.” Michael smiled gently. “And thank you for saving a land for me.”
Beth sighed. She lost her temper. But why Michael wasn’t mad at her. He even tried to please her.
“Forget the land,” Michael wore a serious look. “Why did you try to kill yourself?”
“What?” Beth was confused. She asked, “Kill myself?”
“Joey looked around the warehouse.” Michael looked at Beth and didn’t want to miss her response. “It went on fire because an old lighter was hit on the ground and exploded. And the spark lighted something flammable in the warehouse. It is so lucky that you only were choked by the smoke and there are no other wounds. You’ll recover soon. But if I didn’t get there at that time…”
Michael stopped and moved closer to Beth. Wearing a serious look, he tapped Beth’s forehead.
Beth covered her head and looked back at Michael with pursed lips.
She recalled that it seemed that she hit something when she waving her arms around. And then there was the fire. But she didn’t mean to set the fire. She was totally frightened at that time. She didn’t even know what she did exactly.
“It was an accident…” Beth said. Michael was not a friend of her. She didn’t want to tell him about her claustrophobia.
The look on Michael’s face told Beth he didn’t believe her words and wanted to figure out what was behind the veil.
Beth changed the subject and asked, “Why are you so nice to me?”
Beth regretted saying that the second she said that. What had she asked?
“You can’t tell?” Michael stood up and went to sit beside her bed. With his crooked smile, he leaned forward his well-shaped body.
Feeling pressure, Beth leaned back unconsciously. Seeing his handsome face get closer and closer, she felt her heart was beating fast.
“My fiancée, it seems there are some misunderstandings between you and I.” Michael moved closer and said with a serious tone. “I must correct your thoughts about me.”
“Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding?” Beth quailed beneath Michael’s gaze. She could tell that this man was dangerous.
“Am I an ugly old man?” asked he.
“No! You are young and charming!” Beth shook her head and felt awkward. She said that deliberately at the bar so that she could make Michael hate her. But he remembered what she said!
“Do I have troubles here?” Michael pointed at his head.
“No, of course not!”
“With disabilities?”
“No! You are talented in everything, especially in s*x…” Again, Beth knew she shouldn’t have said that the moment she said that.
Michael didn’t expect that. He laughed and leaned forward, “How do you know that? I think maybe I can prove it.”
“I’m tired. I need to sleep now!” Beth pulled the quilt up to cover her face.
“Okay,” Michael sat up and laughed out. “When you feel better, we can talk about our marriage.”
Beth almost threw the quilt out of the bed in shock. Michael still wanted to marry her!
Hearing the door was closed, Beth looked around the room and was sure he really left.
Lying on the bed, Beth had complicated feelings.
She didn’t know why Michael wanted to marry her. She was a daughter being given up by the Gages. She could help Michael nothing in family business. And her families might gain benefits from him greedily. Why Michael still wanted to marry her? Was something wrong with him?
Talk about their marriage when she felt better?
Thinking of that, Beth shivered and sat up immediately. That man was too dangerous for her. She didn’t want to have any connection with him.
Beth climbed down the bed and get dressed. She sneaked out from the hospital when the doctor and nurses were away.
“Mr. Stone, Miss. Gage left…” Joey told Michael the minute he got news from the hospital.
Michael had said that Beth didn’t want to marry him. But Joey thought Beth was playing some tricks to impress Michael. But it seemed that she really wanted to stay away from his boss.
“Ok.” Michael was not surprised. He added, “Send a bodyguard to protect her. Do not let her know.”
Joey made arrangements at once.
Beth had no idea she was followed. Back to the room she rent, Beth went to bed directly. When she woke up, she took a shower. Seeing the beautiful girl in the mirror, Beth sighed.
How long hadn’t she showed up without those heavy make-up? It was so long that Beth was more familiar with her make-up mask than her real face.
