CHAPTER TWO ` Alvita began first by packing her own clothes. She was very certain of one thing and that was that, if they were able to get away in safety from Russia, they would have no money. She was certain that if it was necessary, Nicholas would expect them to sell everything they had available. So she packed, after her own clothes, her mother’s jewellery and she began to take down from the walls the pictures which her mother had loved so much that she had always wanted them in her bedroom.
