CHAPTER SIXThe next day Alvita learnt over and over again that nothing pays like publicity. When they went out to a luncheon party, everyone present wanted to talk to them about what was being sold in Charles’s house. The evening newspapers had pictures of the house and of Charles and Alvita and Ivor leaving at midday on their way to a luncheon party. ‘I had no idea that we were being photographed,’ Alvita thought. Once again she was worrying in case Charles felt that the whole affair was rather vulgar and something that should not have happened. However, it was done and there was nothing that Alvita could do to prevent people talking about them.
