Chapter Twenty-One Decker I disconnected, feeling a little guilty that’d I withheld some of the goods. Then again, I needed to make amends. A lot of this was on me. I’m not saying I was responsible for setting up the events that had transpired. But things had put me off my game—I’d bought a few lies along the way. And now, people were dead. On my watch. It’s time to pay the piper, Decker. I could hear Pops mumbling to me from behind dentures that didn’t quite fit. Damn straight, Pops. I can make this right. And so I’d lied to the people who were relying on me. I accepted that. And I moved on. It had, in my opinion, been simply a lie of omission. The real lie I still needed to weed out. And I certainly didn’t intend to involve these people any more than I already had. It was, af
