I wrap the jacket closer to myself, and together, we sneak towards the pile of cars.
Ten werewolves.
There are ten werewolves inside the three cars.
Ten hotheaded teen wolves are here to find their soulmate.
"This feels weird," Brenda commented.
"I...agree. But, somehow, a bit exciting," Brian squeals.
We look at each other and nod. The students continue to push us back and forth. Some of them had their cell phones pulled out to record the situation. It needs to be documented for historical purposes.
When the door opens, the girls squeal while the guys talk loudly. The whole school is in chaos.
I spot a five-dollar bill on the ground.
Throughout the process, I inch closer to the money. The werewolves' students will be here for the rest of the year, but that five-dollar bill will not.
Not if I grab it.
When I'm there, I step on it.
Brenda was immersed in the scene in front of us.
I bend down, grab the money, and straighten it out at my thigh. Once I put it inside my pocket, I stood up, and the cars were gone. "What did I miss?"
"Wow," Brenda says. "I've seen werewolves before, but never alphas...betas...Those in the high ups."
The crowd disperses.
"Yeah," I responded. "They're handsome."
Brenda blows out a deep breath, "It's hot." She moves her jacket to get cold air inside.
A Group of people came at us, and they all talked about werewolves.
"I cannot believe it. They have to come to my party!" Natalie shriek. "Which one do you think is the cutest?" She looks at me.
I smile, "The guy in black!"
"Really? Which guy in black?"
Oh s**t. "Which other guy?"
"Me too!" We hold hands and shrill. I have no idea what we're talking about.
The whole day was filled with excitement and anxiety.
I found out five students enrolled in our school, and the other five were in the school across from town. They divide and conquer.
It makes sense.
Suppose they were really looking for their soulmate. Why would they limit themselves to a single location? A split in their group means a reason to visit the other site - an expansion to the area of search.
A great strategy used not only in war but love...or whatever it is they feel.
"Please, welcome our new students," Mrs.Rodriguez says. "Jenny Gilmore and Dylan Chester."
The classroom was in awe at their beauty.
Mrs.Rodriguez made a short introduction of the students before allowing them to sit down.
Dylan Chester is a beta from Blood Moon Pack, and Jenny Gilmore is an alpha from Florescent Pack.
Dylan smiles at everyone while Jenny glares into our souls. Our eyes met, and she narrowed them. I rolled the lollipop in my mouth to the other side, only to find out my cheek was slightly wrinkled.
Dylan and Jenny sat in the middle of the classroom. Dylan was a seat away from me, and Jenny was in front of him.
Brian leans forward, "She's cute," he whispers.
I lean back, "Wrong person."
Finally, he looks at me. "Oh." He leans back, "She's cute," he says to Eric.
Throughout the school day, we found that three of the werewolves were seniors. Two of them were Dylan and Jenny. The other two were juniors.
Finally, it was lunchtime. We fought for a table. Just kidding. It was empty inside the cafeteria. Everyone else was following the werewolves around.
Then, out of the blue, a hoard of students rush inside. They battle for the hot lunch and tables. Soon, the quiet cafeteria was filled with loud students.
It's understandable why students are excited. Since we all live in a restricted area, most of us never saw a werewolf.
Right now, it's the adrenaline rush. But, with time, things will die down.
The cafeteria doors open, and a group of five students walk inside.
Brenda leans towards me, "That's Nisha Wu." She points towards the all purple dressed female. "She may seem small and harmless-looking, but I heard she killed three of her siblings so she can take over the pack. She has three siblings left to kill."
I look at Brenda, "Seriously?"
"I don't know. That's what I heard."
There are massive rumors about all the werewolves that transfer to our school and the school across town. Of course, there will be rumors. Some may be true, but most of them are false.
"Who's him?" I ask.
"Harley Anthony," Brian responds. "I don't trust him."
"Why?"
"I don't trust anyone with two first names." Sounds like Brian.
"And him?"
"Jordan Morrison. They're both warriors," Eric responds.
I nod, "One alpha, a beta, two warriors, and a strange case. What about the other school?"
Eric rubs his chin, "Three male alphas and two betas."
Brenda, Brian, and I hiss slowly. It seems like the other school has it harder.
"Why are the three of you surprised? You know what goes down on the other side."
Bluecester, similar to every town, has two parts - East and West - separated by a highway. I'm on the East side of town, where well-to-do families are located. Then, there is the West, where students in the East get their drugs.
That's where most gangs, people with criminal records, and cops like to be.
From what I can piece together. Whoever assigned the locations of the werewolves did it on purpose. They most likely look down on the female alpha and let her attend the East side to make it seem like they're not biased.
Then, they put all the more aggressive males on the West side. Suppose one of them happens to die. It's not their fault. It's on the West side of Bluecester. People die there every day.
"Why are there warriors here and not over there?'
Brenda gave me a stupid look.
"What?" I ask.
"Werewolves' packs had only recently allowed females to become alphas and betas," Eric explains. "Why else are there warriors here and not over there?"
"I don't know?" What am I? The world wide web?
"All the alphas and betas at the other school are all males."
I tilt my head.
"The warriors are both from Florescent."
With that sentence, the tiny thing inside my head calls a brain understood. "Oh."
Long story short, the warriors are here to protect the alpha—what a blow to the self-esteem. You're about to become the alpha of your pack, but your pack doesn't believe you can defend yourself.
I can see why she looks pissed. It's because she is pissed.
When they pass by, Lucio stands up. He crosses his arms and puffs his chest.
Idiot.
Instead of measuring up to the actual alpha, Lucio decides to measure up to the beta.
Bigger i***t.
Dylan raises a brow and chuckles, "Please. Dude. Don't tell me you're doing what I think you're doing."
Yes. He is doing what you think he's doing.
"You don't belong here."
Dylan copied Lucio's actions, "My paperwork says otherwise."
"That i***t," Brenda and I say at the same time.
"I suggest you move," Dylan said.
"Or what?"
"He says to move," Jenny interferes.
"Sweethea-" Before Lucio could finish the word, Jenny had his head pinned against the table.
A few guys stand up, including Brian and Eric. Yes, Lucio is an absolute d**k, but he's still someone we know compared to an unknown group. In a lot of eyes, they're not even human. They're a completely different species.
They're not our kind.
"Sweetheart," Jenny's voice sounds even more threatening than earlier, "I suggest you back up."
Wow. How did Jenny know what Lucio would say?
"Or you may get hurt."
Jenny releases Lucio and scoffs. She walks towards the lunch line. When Dylan passed Lucio, he whistled and gave him a taunting grin.
"Bro. She just whoops your ass," someone said.
"Shut the f**k up," Lucio says. He's probably pissed right now.
So many pissed-off people in one room. I can't handle it.
The lunch line opens up for Jenny and her crew. They grab their trays, stack up the food, and pay for their meals. I can see the lunch ladies sweating.
The door opens, and another trouble waltz in - Rosario.
Brenda nudged me by the rib. She points toward the werewolves group. I turn my head to see Dylan completely hypnotized in Rosario's direction.
Rosario, unknown of what is occurring, waltzes into the cafeteria - towards her usual table. His eyes were pinned at her.
From my tiny brain, I could deduct that probably-
"Mate," Dylan says.
Everyone stops their movement.
Rosario turns her head towards Dylan. She looks behind her before she points a finger at herself, "Me?"
He smiles and nods.
Her brows crunch together, "Huh?"
Dylan throws his lunch at Jordan then rushes towards her. His eyes went up and down her body. "Wow. You're so beautiful."
Wow. That's so creepy.
Rosario looks at him for what seems to be a long moment. "You're one of those werewolves." She appears to be in a state of shock. Rosario takes a few blinks before she turns her heels and walks out of the building.
Immediately, Dylan rushed after her.
The rest of his group looks at each other before they walk out too.
After a few seconds, the school was in an uproar. Natalie rushed towards our table with a few other girls. "Did you see that?! Did you see that!"
No. I had my eyes closed the whole time. "Yes! I can't believe it!"
Brenda snickers at my overly positive response.
"I can't believe it." I believe the girl who said that is named Vicki. "Rosa is a huge b***h, but she gets mated to a beta werewolf? Everyone knows those guys are rich as f**k!" She looks up at the ceiling, "Yes! A rich girl needs more money!"
Everyone continues to gossip about what happened and what is going on outside.
For sure, the dynamics at school are not going to change.
I notice how Lana and Nolan walk into the cafeteria together.
Of course, no one else takes notice except me. Particularly after the crazy event earlier.
On the next day, Rosario's group and the werewolves were merged.
"All hail the queen," Brenda said in a low sarcastic voice.
"Watch it," Brian mumbles. "She'll get her boyfriend to murder you."
Before Rosario got a werewolf boyfriend, she was pretty much an egoistic princess. Now, she's an egoistic princess with a boyfriend who can rip your face off.
We watch as Rosario fixes Dylan's hair. Jenny rolls her eyes and walks away with Nisha, which causes Rosario to pout. "She hates me. Why does she hate me? What have I done to her?" Rosario question.
Dylan made circles in Rosario's back, "Don't worry about it. Jenny dislikes everyone." That's comforting.
I spot Lana speed walking past Rosario. I wasn't the only one who noticed her as Rosario extended her leg and tripped Lana. All the papers fly in the air.
Rosario's usual group chuckles while the werewolves exchange glances. Lana quickly gathered up all her papers and ran away.
"Why did you do that?" Dylan asks.
"Why not?" Rosario replies. She smiles, "Baby. Let's not act stupid. I'm pretty sure from yesterday to now. You investigated me."
I can't believe she threw that card out there. No one dares to look in their direction anymore. It's called - reading the atmosphere. And right now, it doesn't feel so good.
"And I would like for you to stop." There wasn't any wiggle room in Dylan's voice. So, this is the power of a beta.
"Why should I?"
"I like for you to stop caring about another man."
Hold up.
"You're my soulmate now. You shouldn't care about some girl who destroyed whatever it is between you and another male."
And here, I thought Dylan had some empathy inside of him.
It's not empathy for Lana.
He's jealous.
"You don't tell me what to do," Rosario said. "No one does."
When I move my eyeballs, I see how Rosario tries to walk away. Keyword tries. Dylan grabs her by the elbow and forcibly pulls her back, which gets her shaking. No one had ever done that to Rosario.
Everyone was too stunned to move.
Dylan's eyes went around the hallway.
Now, everyone is looking at them.
"Not the place," Harley warned him.
Steadily, Dylan releases a shaky Rosario. He ground his molar so harshly. I thought it might break.
This is it.
This is the crazy side of a werewolf's bond.
