Chapter Four Let us try that one more time, shall we?    Mint Hearst’s Point of View “You’re safe now, Mint. I promise you that.”  I could feel nothing but relief as I held onto Louise, nodding my head as I felt grateful and safe to her words. The tone of her voice and how she could easily mend my beating heard is already enough to have me aware of just how much the time had changed from the time that Carson had locked me up for his own set of entertainment.  She has this different aura on her now, someone you can see benefit more from Carson's mate. There was nothing but worry in her eyes, one that seemed foreign to my years of being trapped in that hole. My body felt like shaking. “I am so sorry, Louise.” “You’re sorry? Why are you apologizing to me after what had happened?” She frowned, clearly a face filled with nothing but pity. “Mint, you were deprived of your freedom for two years, all because of my mate. I should be the one to apologize.”  I sniffed, my heart aching into knowing what is happening inside her head. Despite how my things were looking bad, I know that she has some feelings for the man. She was the mate, someone who should be treasured, and knowing that her mate had harbored a woman in his domain for these years would have some effect on her. With a shaking voice, I replied. “But you didn’t know about it.” “Seriously, your kindness is something else. You always give it to people who do not deserve it. While I adore you for doing that, it is not always good for you.” She sighed at the words that escaped to her, something along her eyes seemed to be guilty with something, but my mind is too hazy to understand. An emotion lingered on her face as she looked at me with nothing but defeat. “Had he really kept you in here through those two years that he claimed that you’re not here?”  My head hung low, nodding at her.  “Why didn’t you tell us?” She questioned, making me bite my lips.  “I tried to…” I whispered.  Looking back into the years where I had screamed and did everything to escape from him, I believe that I had done to make them aware that he had trapped me, but none had ever seen fault in his words. Not that it would be a surprise to me.  Carson is known to be kind and compassionate to me.  He could never have hurt me. No one would think that would be possible. “We all believed him, and I am so sorry that we did not even question the validity of his words. We should have known that you would not just leave us out of nowhere,” Louise whispered, making me look back at her. “No.” I shook my head, not wanting her to blame herself. “I know that it is not easy not to believe him as he had always been really nice to me. Even I had thought that he was pranking me on the first day.”  My eyes could see the level of maturity that she had for the years that I have lost. Not only does Louise look nothing but confident, different from the crying girl that I had met on the bathroom stall, there was this level of softness in her eyes that could calm anyone down.      She frowned, looking past her shoulder as she whispered. “I called for some help, do not worry. I will not let him hold you again or be near you.”  Before I was aware of what was happening, she had pushed me inside the large room as it had rolled into a lock. Despite the harsh tone outside the door, I could feel nothing but shudder into my body, knowing that she had felt that Carson was on his way to get from us. That would mean that Alpha Leighton had left the pack.  He really does not want me.   My body was shaking. I could not feel anything as fear as colliding inside of me, knowing that my dream of having me swept away by my own mate is nothing but a feeble attempt of my imagination. As the truth had settled, I finally realized that I was paired with a man known to hate omegas. Not by gossip alone, but even with my long years of being trapped in the basement, I was aware of the massive killing spree he had with the omegas. His reign had started at such a young age that I could not imagine the reason behind it. Omegas are naturally weak, but why does he feel the need to kill them? He would kill them upon a single sight. The horrors I have heard about him were no joke and to think that the Moon Goddess had paired me with such a man is nothing but making my knees quiver. Does the world want me to perish all to the days they had given me into this earth? Having to be mated with him made me feel that I do not have such high hopes in my life. “Where is she!” I flinched as I heard that voice, covering my mouth, wanted nothing else to do but sob. He was livid and angry, making me aware that if I never see the light again, I never come back to that room. ...or worse, Louise might be trapped in there with me.  She can suffer such length too.  No, I can’t do that.  I needed to escape.  My eyes caught the view of the window, letting me have the decision to run away from here. I made my head peeked outside the window, looking around to see if people could see me if I waved for help. As another scream from Louise and Carson had emerged, I knew that this was my last resort. While it was nice for Louise to give me a chance to have some safety from this pack, being in this place is something I do not want to have. Especially when my mate knew where I was.  I wanted to let my head escape first, but I could not be that stupid. I pulled my head back and allowed my legs to escape from the window as it stepped carefully on edge. “You can do this, Mint.” I breathe, looking at the height that was before me as I nodded in nothing but affirmation. My sight with heights had always been feeble, and whenever that I would do something as stupid as this, I just knew that I could easily endanger myself. My wolf's feeling is nothing but defeating, but this is something that I needed to do. “Jump,” I said.  As if someone commanded me to do that act, I had jumped from the second floor to the ground. It was nothing really, something that all wolves could do, but I was nothing but a weak one. The second that my feet touched the soil, it had done nothing but ran to the only thing that made me comfortable. The Lake. It was the spot where they found me.  The time where I am nothing but a child with an act of potential and all who had seen me wanted to take the pitiful child who was left in such a beautiful place. Coincidentally, this was also not a piece of land that Carson owned. A lot of people could have seen me. But Carson’s mother was the one who did. While I had always been thankful for that, I wished she just let me go. Away from this horrible of a life.  As I breathed in the scent, I was unsure what I could feel from this moment. I was finally free from him, from his pack, and his control. I was finally out from that place and now cast into a rogue.  I scoffed. Omega is turning into a rogue. There is not a chance that I would last a day in this place. Without having to be aware of anything, I was surprised to see myself walking to the dock. My body was shaking, but my feet were determined to do something that I did not know I would not do. “I do not deserve to live here anymore,” I whispered, looking at the view with a sad smile. No matter how much I lie, I know the truth. “My parents left me, my friends hated me, and now… my own mate will reject me.” Maybe Carson was right about one thing.     I do not have the right to live, instead of his own source of torture. That was the only reason I am alive, to please him, and I would never condone that.  So, I had jumped down despite knowing that I could not swim. My wolf, who had always given me the courage, was nothing but silence as we sank into the water. She was deflecting, close to giving up on me, and frankly… I feel the same thing. Seeing the person we were destined to meet seemed like a massive awakening that our life is nothing but a joke.  I did not paddle or give in more chances to save my life, for I see no other reason to do so. When my lungs felt restricted, and my eyes grew tired, I had closed my eyes. Despite the hardship and my body wanting to react as the body’s attempt to save my life, I stay immobile. It had lasted only a second when I felt someone tugging my hands. Confused, I was suddenly pulled into the land as a man was heaving before my eyes. “Are you out of your damn mind?!” He screamed, a voice so feral and robust.  Startled, I moved back from him, coughing the water that had restricted my capacity to breathe. The expression on his face seemed feral, but there was some softness on it. Despite his voice being rough, I could see some underlining sense of worry in it. His eyes were obsidian black, which would mean that his wolf was in control, but there was no indication that it seemed like a wolf was dominating him.  What is happening?  “What the f**k were you thinking from doing all of that?!” He growled, grabbing my shoulders as he shakes my body as if there is still some water from inside my lungs. “Answer me, woman!” I frowned, pushing him away from me. Before I could even answer, a small cough escaped my lips as I struggled to answer. “I was killing myself! Because who in the world wanted to live in such a world where I am mated to someone like you!” “You are killing yourself for that reason?” The man only chuckled darkly. His face was coated with nothing but anger and pain, different emotions coming from different people. The hatred coming from the human while the pain was acting from the wolf, right? Leaning towards me, he had snared the words. “Be sure that if you wanted to kill yourself, I am not in the damn environment for me to see you.” His voice was cold, and it had burned my skin. The very words that came from his mouth made me question why I am even alive. I do not even know why he was here, to begin with! He had left me alone with that asshole! He should know that something was wrong from the second he saw me.  “Alpha.” I screamed from the sudden voice, scurrying into the side as a man had bowed to him. He was the same man who was with him earlier too. A small frown etched on his face when he saw me, followed by when he saw that his Alpha was drenched. “Should I think that you are feeling too bothered by the heat, Alpha?”  “I do not have time to play and would not be that stupid. But someone is,” He replied with such a sharp voice that I could not help but jump. I looked in his direction, seeing that a sharp gaze was sent into my way. My eyes easily moved away from him. Even with the years of derogatory words from Carson, his voice seemed more fierce and something that could cut through anyone’s skin.  “Of course, I apologize.” The man had only replied, but still not settling the small frown printed on his stern face. “I have some spare clothes in the car for you to change into, Alpha.” “Don’t bother about that.” Alpha Leighton growled out the words as he stood up, looking at me before he scoffed. His feet were about to leave me with the man from his pack when he stopped, looking back at the person he called. “Give that bloody clothes to her, and make sure you drag her ass back in the car.” “What?!” I screamed, bewildered by his words. Despite my difficulty with the situation, I had looked back at him with nothing but confusion about his orders. “You’re finally f*****g leaving, that means that I can kill myself. Why are you dragging me with you?!” He growled, walking back to where I was before grabbing me by the waist and throwing me into his shoulders. I screamed, letting out a few more water as I did, surprised by how I was handled as if I am nothing but a feather. My body shivered with the link as my hands touched him. The man who was called only looked at us with confusion before he then followed suit. “Do you even eat with this body? I feel like I am carrying a piece of paper.” He questioned, shaking his head at the possible nonstruggle movements about my weight.  In my defense, eating is a luxury for me.   Every trail we had passed was getting wet due to the heavy clothes that this Alpha was wearing. He was still growling, letting some small growls escape now and then while I did nothing but stayed rooted in my place. I guess that the talk about my death is nothing but hinting at something from him. I should have known better than a more substantial part of us naturally do not want our soulmate to die. But… isn’t he just going to reject me? Then why do all of these?      “Where are we headed, Alpha?” The man asked as he was looking at me with a confused frown. Nothing of an answer came from Alpha Leighton, but the man nodded, making me realize that he had linked something to not made me aware of what was happening. Before I could even take a small sigh, the warrior muttered another word. “And are we allowed to take this omega?” Alpha Leighton scoffed, making me fist my hand as I fear that he will let me go all too suddenly. Instead of linking his answer this time, he had chosen to let his words out in the open. “Who will stop me? That f*****g wimp who can’t even look at me in the eyes when I talk to him? I would like to see him try. His pack will f*****g perish.” That’s right. This pack is heavily dependent on Alpha Leighton’s influence. While he does really scream nothing but a monster who has killed many of my kind, he provides safety and an excellent image to those connected to him. From what Carson had told me when things were still good between us… this man is really an excellent Alpha despite his deadly record. That’s why most packs would turn a blind eye to his feral mode.  From what I have heard before, he is even close to the Alpha King. Not that the rumors would pose lies, seeing that he is the dark knight. It would mean that he is someone who kills for the King and his most trusted knight. That would mean that he has more power than what people gave him, which is really deadly. From the second that you give power to a man who has nothing but the thirst to kill, nothing could honestly stop him. I was aware of the power that he has with other Alpha. Nobody can defy this man. No matter how hard they try. Not only is he powerful all on his own, but he has his own defense sent by the palace. To how someone can outsmart him would be surprising to all.  “I understand, Alpha.” He replied with a soft sound. “Should we buy some extra clothes for you to wear?” “No.” Alpha Leighton rejected the offer as soon as it was put into the air. As his feet had stopped somewhere, he continued by putting me down as he pointed to the passenger seat door. I quickly frowned, looking back in the lake's direction.  What if I run away?  Before I could say something to save my plan, a small shriek escaped my lips as I was pushed inside the back of the car rather than the seat that was close to the warrior. “I told you not to f*****g do it before my f*****g eyes.” I frowned, struggling to keep myself hot in such a cold place. “But you were leaving.” “And you still tell me your bloody plan.” He gritted his teeth. “Because you wanted him to reel me into your car! I was trying to kill —” my words had reached a halt when he had growled out, hearing the thing that was making him more possessive. The man who was in the driver's seat only looked at us, acting sheepishly. “I seem to have left the extra clothes in my room, Alpha.” He nodded. “Then quickly head to the pack we’re visiting.” “Of course.” As the car started with a small roar, my eyes looked around the pack members. It seemed like no one could see us from the outside, but they still stole a little glimpse from the car. To what Carson’s lie had made, I really did what he had said. I am running away from the pack because I had found my mate. Of course, I do not hold the same happy reason that he has. I am nothing but being forced into my own will because he knew that I am a danger to myself. While I tried my best to focus on the surroundings, I could not hold the small sneeze coming from me, earning another growl from the man close to me.  “Sorry,” I whispered, raising my hand to cover my mouth as another had escaped.  Not that it was a surprise that my body would react since the car was cold, my drench clothes were not even helping for my case, and I really could not stand the cold weather enough. I sniffed, grabbing myself closer as another sneeze escaped from me.  Looking around, there were some buttons that I could press. All seemed new to me, being this the first time that all were introduced in my eyes. Our pack does not hold many cars that gathered this modernized finish. I was sure they could barely hold any money for food. I pushed one absentmindedly, but nothing happened, making me frown as the cold was consuming my body.  “Bloody hell.” He grumbled, holding the bridge of his nose as he looked at the man driving. “We’re stopping in a store, Blue. Make it quick before this woman discovers the thermostat.” I frowned, looking at him. “What’s that?” “Something that is not for stupid people.” He replied. “Then why do you have it?” I sniffed, looking back at him. The man, who was called Blue, only sniffled his laugh at my words. Alpha Leighton looked back at me as he leaned carefully, making me jump as I looked at him anywhere but him. It was not me who had reacted, but my wolf, and he seemed to knew exactly that. “Seems like I have pissed a wolf who is nothing but tame and deflated enough to have you actually do such a stupid act.” He grumbled, crossing his arms as he looked straight. “Better step on it faster, Blue.” “Yes, Alpha.” Where is he taking me, anyway?
