I have never been a man to shirk my duty, but right now, I am sorely tempted. All I want to do is take care of my mate. She is trying so hard to be brave, but no matter how hard she tries, she can’t hide the pain in her eyes. I can’t imagine what she has been through, or what it would be like to leave behind everything and everyone I have ever known, knowing there is no chance of return.
I am even more impressed with her now than I was before, and I want to help her to shoulder the burden she is clearly carrying. Whatever I can do to make things easier for her, I want to do it.
Then do it, Griffin urges me on. Tell everyone they can manage without you for the day and take care of her. It’s not that complicated.
