Amy had come by to get me a little while ago and we were now helping some of the staff with the food. We felt bad that they had to make us food since they didn't ate ‘normal’ food like we did so we help out. We had learned that two humans were gonna be at dinner too, I was surprised at the fact that vampires let humans into their council. Impressed as well that they trusted them with such information and decision making, I should give them more credit than I have done so far in life. I felt a new presence in the kitchen and it was familiar, Frederick.
“You know you don't have to help out right? The others are joining in any minute now anyway. Come on I'll lead the way.” Frederick motioned for us to follow him as we put down whatever we had in our hands and gave the staff a smile and followed Frederick out of the kitchen and into the dining room. In the middle of the room there was a long oak table and at least 30 matching chairs. That's when I realized that I didn't know how many people were coming to this meeting that was more of a ‘meeting your future queen’ than a meeting.
“Wow, this place is really beautiful Frederick.” Amy complimented.
“thank you Amy. It been in our family since the 1400. Our grandparents built it and it has been passed down in generations. Well for two generations at least, given that neither me or El had kids before we turned and have to other family.” Frederick told us.
“So wait, you guys turned in like early 1500s?” I had done the math quickly in my head.
"Yeah, 1502 more exactly right after my 22th birthday. I turned El two years later when she had turned twenty.” he said.
“So the whole count thing is because you grew up with that title?” Amy asked.
“Yes, but don't call El countess. She never liked titles.” A girl after my own taste.
“So I'm guessing she's not so thrilled about us being here than?” I asked Frederick, considering what I had heard earlier.
“She'll come around, just a little stubborn. I'm used to it by now.” Frederick said and I could understand the easing into things instead of diving right in, head first.
“After over 500 years together I would hope so.” I said.
We all laughed and then in about ten second one after one vampire joined the room, no humans in sight yet. Their sent was very different from vampires with their blood flowing and you could smell the life in them. Vampires smelled like death simple, not so weird since when they turn they die and stay in that living/dead state. And with that the two humans step into the room a man and a woman in their late twenties, they greeted the room and the woman made her way to Frederick and took his hand in her and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
“Sophia, Amy this is Mona. My wife, betrothed, soulmate or whatever you wanna call it. Mona this is Queen Sophia and her Aunt Amy.” Frederick introduced us.
“Oh I've heard so much about you my queen. It's an honor to have you here with us.” wow she was formal and really wanted to make a good impression, her thoughts gave her away even more.
“The pleasure is all mine Mona and please call me Sophia or Soph I never been into titles.” I said and you could feel the energy in the room shift as they all had heard this.
“You sound just like Elizabeth on that. Anyway it feels good to have other than vampires in this house for once.” Mona must have been alone as a non vampire, the only mortal.
"Well happy to be of service than.” we both laughed at this before Frederick told us to take our seats as dinner was about to be served.
I sat down at the far end of the table and just as I put the napkin on my lap I went stiff as a new presence joined the room. I could smell the death but also hydrangeas that made me lose my trail of thought. I never thought that a vampire could smell this good, the death smell usually took over everything and it wasn't pleasant at all. But this smell was different and all I wanted was to see who the smell belonged to. I felt Amy's eyes on me as if asking if I was okay as she had noticed my sudden change in stiffness. I mindlinked her that I was fine and she left it for now. Knowing her she would be taking it up later tonight, I was sure of it. The same voice that I had heard earlier in my head returned and I knew the smell must have belonged to her, Frederick’s sister Elizabeth.
~God, she had to be pretty and sweet. It makes it so much harder to hate her. Even being against titles.. Maybe I'll give her a small chance to prove herself.. Maybe.~
I saw her figure walking over to Frederick and taking a seat next to him and giving him a look that I would guess was not a positive one by her body language. She looked around the table and right before she came to me I realized that I was staring at her and looked over to Amy and giving her a smile that she returned. I could feel her eyes still on me so I gathered my courage to look up at her and out eyes met. I felt this rush of emotions and I didn't know what to to with it all. I was happy that we had taken that shot of mind reading shield potion before this dinner cause I didn't need all of these vampires to know what was going through my mind at this time. I saw every detail about her and she was gorgeous, her long black hair hanging in perfect beach waves down her shoulders, pale skin, long lashes made her eyes seem bigger and full lips covered in red lipstick that I just wanted to kiss. She was perfect. What the hell was going on? I had never thought of women this way, I had never questioned my sexuality until now. Until her. How could a vampire make me feel this way? She can't be my mate, I had never heard of mates between magical creatures only with humans as they were ‘natural and pure’ as Cassie had said.
I was brought back to reality when a plate of food was placed in front of me. I made small talk to the people sitting close to me many of them had met me when I was only one of two years old which felt weird since most of them look to be around my age. The whole vampire thing was still strange to me in a way. I did my best to avoid Elizabeth's eyes all through dinner, when I knew she was looking at someone else I glanced over at her to take in her beauty. I really couldn't stay away from her, I was mesmerized by her and I couldn't do anything about it.
It felt like the dinner never ended, like it went on for hours even if it had only been 40 minutes since we sat down. Some of the staff came and cleared the table as we said goodbye to some of the people that had other obligations for the evening. The only people that was left was me, Amy, Cole, Frederick, Mona, Elizabeth and the advisers Stephen and Jeremiah that we had met earlier. I kept avoiding Elizabeth's eyes as much as I could since I seemed to get lost or drown in them. I kept focus on chatting with Mona and Frederick about their story of how they met and so on.
“Well mister cool here sort of stalked me for two weeks before asking me out. But with the whole soulmate thing I sensed his presence so it only creeper me out until he had the guts to actually talk to me.” She teased him making me laugh.
“I had to make sure you where the right one and that I wouldn't rip you from another family or anything.” Frederick said trying to save the situation.
“Sure cause you never moped around the house for a week and a half because you thought she was seeing that guy.. Uhm.. Johnny?” It was Elizabeth and her scent took me over once again, I couldn't help but feel paralyzed by the smell.
“Hey you never told me that.” Mona said clearly surprised at Elizabeth's words.
“I might get jealous sometimes but at least I can keep a secret unlike you El.” Frederick almost hissed at Elizabeth.
“I get it as a little sister it's our job to rat you out and annoy the hell out of you. It's a fact.” Amy stepped in to defend Elizabeth's actions.
“Thanks. See?” Elizabeth said gesturing to Amy.
“Fine.. Oh El I haven't introduced you to our guests yet. This is Amy and you remember Cole right?” Frederick introduced them first Amy and Elizabeth shook hands and said hello before Elizabeth turned to Cole.
“How could I forget. It's nice to see you again man.” she said and gave Cole a hug.
“Likewise. This is my friend Sophia. You might have heard of her as the future queen” Cole introduced me.
“It's nice to meet you Elizabeth” I stretched out my hand for her to take.
“It's nice putting a face to the name.” she said and took my hand to shake it. The moment her fingers touched my skin it felt like my body was exploding from fireworks like her skin made mine burn in a way that made me want more. We stood there and just looked at each other for a long time. I never really noticed that the rest of the people in the room had left. I heard Kia scream of joy in my head, I couldn't really understand why. On some level I did but I wasn't letting it sink in.
“I'm guessing you feel it too?” Elizabeth asked me.
“Yes, but how is it possible? I never heard of mates between magical creatures, it makes for to powerful offsprings, not good for the balance of the magic.” I said, still confused about what was going on.
“Well I don't think we're gonna be having that issue. Plus I've heard you are the a combination of werewolf and witch with all that power you possess.” She knew some stuff about me, but not everything.
“Sure I have powers but they are a gift from the moon goddess herself. To win some big war. It’s a long story.” I still didn't know if I could trust her even if my whole body told me to.
"Okay.. Well I have all the time in the world. Maybe we can talk tomorrow and maybe take a tour of the town?” She was asking me on a date.. Out first date.
“That sounds like a plan. I better get some sleep then” I told her and turned to walk out of the room and towards the stairs. I went against my entire body for every step I took away from her. Her voice sounded in my head once again of her battling with herself.
~I can't just let her walk away without kissing her, right? Maybe it's to much. I doubt she's ever even thought of a girl in this way. I wish I could know what she's thinking right now.~
I debated if I should tell her I can read minds as well or at least to something to keep her from feeling so lost and conflicted. I could sense all of her and I had to give in to her. I stopped just two steps away from her and turned around.
“You're right, I've been straight my whole life but I don't care and you should stop second guessing yourself.” she stood there and I could see the shock on her face. I ignored her confusion as I closed the distance between us and was now an inch away from her.
“wha… How?” I know that she understood just had to let it sink in overnight.
I put my hands to her face and put my lips to hers, I felt even more fireworks than when our hands touched. It took her a few seconds before she responded and kissed me back. I never thought that I would end up with a woman but who was I to deny destiny…
