A Wish

AVALON They're here. They came for me. Fast as they could, they ran after me, each holding a weapon meant to end my life. Faster, please go faster. I begged my legs to move. My lungs, however, had a different idea. They begged for me to stop. They ached so much, but I couldn’t afford to, not now. Just...not now, Avalon. I pushed harder, or so I thought. But barely a heartbeat later, I felt him breathing down my neck, causing all the hair on my back to stand at attention. And just another second later, hands pushed against my back, sending me flying across the field. He stood tall, towering over me, while she stood by his side. “Nowhere to run now?” he asked, wearing a sinister smile with nothing but coldness in his eyes. She, however, his lover, stepped forward with a silver dagger, ready to end me. To finally get rid of me. No, no, please no. I wanted to beg but at that moment my throat went against me, almost like it had been ordered not to form the words, let alone let me speak out. I watched in horror, and she lifted her arms and just when she was about to drive her knife into my chest where my heart was, I gasped awake, having felt ice-cold water splash on my face. Goddess that's cold. And it just kept on coming, the sting of it eating at my skin, not to mention the pain that shot from, wait... Where am I? “Wake up! You stupid brat!” a voice as cold as the water snapped at me. I couldn’t open my eyes from the water that ran down my face and I couldn’t wipe them either. “I said wake up!” My head was pulled back awkwardly so much my neck craned painfully. I cried out in pain and forced my eyes open. My vision blurred at first but a few heartbeats later, it cleared enough for me to see who had me tied up. “About f*****g time!” Livia shrieked breathlessly like she had been the one who was hosed down with ice water. My body shivered as I looked at her, almost too afraid. Heck, I was afraid to look anywhere else but her. I knew just how cruel and wicked she was. Going after the things I had and wanted for years until she had them, but even now it just wasn’t enough. I didn’t know how I hadn’t seen through for years until it was too late. Until she had her claws deep into my mate’s skin, and she turned him against me. I had been married for three years going on four, all the years having to endure my husband’s hatred because of her. Livia waited until I found my mate to go after him. In her words, I didn’t deserve to have anything good for myself in this life and now, here I was tied up because she just couldn’t get enough, even after I had divorced him. She just hates me. The dream I had wasn’t a dream after all. She was really out to kill me. Now, more than ever, I prayed to the Moon Goddess for a miracle. For her to show me her kindness and send help just this once. “Please, Moon Mother, save me....” I cried silently. Livia laughed heartily like my situation was a pure joke to her. “No one is coming to save you, Ava. Not one soul. I should have killed you a long time ago.” I cried some more, feeling every bone in my body hurt like hell, not to mention the scars that marred my entire body from how badly she had beaten me to the point of unconsciousness. What was this life? “He’s yours,” I started to tell her, coughing up in the process. “...he has been yours for years now, and you have made him divorce me. Isn’t that enough? Haven’t you taken enough from me? Why are you doing this?” For three years she dated him, rubbed their romance in my face, while I was left with nothing but pain and emptiness. Every time he made love to her, I felt every bit of pain, each day becoming worse than the previous. She laughed some more, the memory of everything bad she had done to me made me entertaining to her. “I heard him talk about you in his sleep, you know." She started. "I heard his mother ask him to get you pregnant so that his heir would come from his mate. I’m the one pregnant and yet you’re the one they want to carry his heir?" Anger, blood thirst and Let’s see what they think once I rid this world of you!” Of course, this was what she was making me suffer for. She just couldn’t stand to see me happy for a second, not even a smile. Livia’s eyes were wide with insanity and I knew this was the end for me. This is it. Even though I didn’t want it to be. I struggled against the rope she tied me with. Moving my body in fear was enough to cause my eyes to bulge. “Livia please! Don’t do this. You can convince Sebastian, he’ll surely stand up for you against his parents." I tried to plead with this monster. "You don’t have to do this!” Stupid rope, just budge already! Faster, more painfully my hands moved. I didn’t care that my fingers could snap at any moment. I just wanted out of these ties and away from Livia because she had completely lost it, and I wasn’t about to become her first victim. She raised her hands like she did in my dream and was ready to strike me when one of my hands slipped out of the knot and, without even thinking, I grabbed the knife just before it could pierce into me. Of course, it cut through my hand. I screamed out in pain. “Just die already!” she screamed, pushing deeper, but I used the other to push her with the last shred of adrenaline I had left in me. She stumbled on her heels and fell on the floor, on some broken glasses. I need to get out of here. Was my first thought and I went to work freeing my legs. Once they were free, I took off for the door. I could taste freedom, or what I thought it was. But I barely made it two steps from the door, with my hands dripping with blood, so much dizziness threatened to take me away when a sharp crack sounded. Something had met with my skull, sending icy paralysis to take over my body, making me go limp as the world slipped away. I woke with another gasp to find Livia staring at me with more hate in her eyes than I had seen over the years. “Did you really think you could escape us?” Us? My mind questioned, and my eyes shifted to the shadow that stood beside her. I heard the sound of my heart breaking, coming face to face with my mate or ex-mate which he had become now. I loved him like any mate would. I cared for him like any she-wolf would her Alpha. I should have been his Luna. But I never was. Instead, he made her his Luna. The mistress took the place of his mate and he didn’t care. He, along with his pack, treated her golden while they hated me because she deemed it so. “You have the audacity to sleep with another man?” Sebastian yelled without an ounce of pity for the state I was in. Sleep with another man? Me? When did that....? “Livia, what did you tell him? What lie did you tell him this time?” my heart was not only breaking, it was racing. Sebastian was not a man to be reasoned with when he lost it and right now he had. When he was angry, no amount of explaining was going to make him listen or cool him off until he had inflicted some pain and damage, especially not with the lie she would tell. But why did he care if I slept with someone else when all he had ever done during the time of our marriage was blatantly cheat and hurt me? “f*****g answer me!” he screamed in my face and, for the first time, I didn’t fear him. His palm collided with my face, sending my head to violently whip to the side and for my lips to burst open. “I couldn’t have cheated on you even if I tried. You made sure of that, Sebastian. You had me locked up for years while you cheated again, and again with her. But now I’m the cheat?” His nose flared, it was clear he was gone and this was another personality that had taken over, his demon or beast as I liked to call it. I was exhausted by everything. I was tired of the life I had and if I had the chance to change it, I would, without question or even thinking about it. “Just one wish, Moon Mother.” I thought out loud before turning my attention back to a fuming Sebastian and a smirking Livia. She knew just how to get him to kill and, for once, I wanted him to get it over with. Just do it already, was my thought. “I’m your ex-wife Sebastian. Which means I no longer belong to you and I can damn well be with another man if I wish to. You don’t own me anymore. You don’t....” My words were cut short and so were the airways that granted my lungs air. Sebastian had his hands both wrapped around my throat, and he pressed as hard as he could. I smiled at him, knowing peace was going to be mine soon as well as freedom, a different type than I initially wanted. “One wish, Mother. Grant me one more chance to change my story. Grant me another life. Let me have my revenge on those who have made this one miserable for me...” A prayer, so simple, I knew even if it wasn’t answered, I would be at peace with this ending. My vision blurred, and my lungs begged for air. I should have been fighting him to get off, but I refrained from doing so until the only sound I could hear was my breathing. And then a light so alluring was before me, revealing the most beautiful being I had ever seen in my life. “Poor child, you are. Your story is indeed pitiful, and we need to change that. Your wish has been granted my child. Right your wrongs, and make those who made you suffer pay.”
