The Elders are sitting at the high table, the meeting has been in progress for over three hours and I, Alpha Andrew McClaren of the Scarlet Moon Pack, can feel my feeble hold on my patience ready to snap.
I wanted to move the pack forward. I wanted the pack: my pack to become a force to be reckoned with. But how am I supposed to do that when my council is full of old men and women who were against progress?
The voice of the most problematic Elder, and the head of the group, Elder Victor, droned on and on. If everyone fell asleep or walked out, Victor would not notice and would continue with his sermon. It was high time to put an end to the crap.
As I stand, everyone falls silent. “Elders, I appreciate your wisdom and experience with all the matters we have discussed, but I want to make sure I have made my intention clear. From today, I do not want anyone from the Scarlet Moon Pack to be taught or bound by the notion of a fated mate.
I have seen little evidence to suggest that this phenomenon is nothing more than a fairy tale passed down from generations ago.”
“Alpha Andrew please... The Moon Goddess is just! She does exist and I know first-hand how strong the bond with a fated mate is. Please reconsider”.
I hold up my hand and respectfully address the woman who pleads with me. “Elder June, whilst I have no doubt that you and your husband love one another, there is no proof this was the work of the so-called Moon Goddess. Please, my pack needs a Luna and I have waited long enough for a fated mate to no avail."
I place my hand on my heart, "I declare, as Alpha of the Scarlet Moon Pack, that the teachings of the Moon Goddess are null and void. Therefore, from now on, every member of the Scarlet Moon Pack is free to pursue a mate of their choosing.”
I barely finish giving my speech when my younger brother Alex mindlinks me.
Nice one, Brother! It is time to move with the ages and we both know a fated mate is a load of BS! Now finish this meeting sharpish... There is a beautiful blonde I am taking out on a date.
Typical Alex, the declaration has not even been signed and he’s already getting the ladies lined up. How I envy his freedom.
I just hope this is all worth the hassle. I know all the other packs in Global City still teach and believe in the Moon Goddess, but I’m 24 years old. I have no mate and my pack needs a Luna, my brother and Second-In-Command also has no mate. Enough is enough.
Either the Moon Goddess is punishing us or the whole thing is made up. It’s high time I took action. Nothing has ever been handed to me. If I want something, I have to make it happen. Now my next task is finding a strong Luna to help me lead my pack. No Biggy!
Before I call an end to the meeting, Elder Victor stands. “As head of your advisory council, I am yet to be convinced this is the best move for you and the whole Pack, Alpha Andrew. I therefore advise a twenty-eight-day cooling off period before we pass and sign the declaration.
I would ask all members of the Scarlet Moon council and pack to use this time to find the evidence confirming or denying the Moon Goddess and her gift of fated mates. Raise your hands if you agree with this motion.”
He addresses his council and, without a pause, all seven Elders raise their hands.
Oh, come on! Alex is not happy, there goes his date with a beautiful blonde!
