Chapter 8: A surprise for the lovely couple!

522 Words
The next morning, I woke up with a huge smile on my face because after today, David wouldn’t have anything to do with me. I will just pretend to be a tenant at his house. I know it sounded pathetic, but it was so much better than it seemed. With this thought in my mind, I woke up Bianca and Tiffany and we got ready for breakfast. Everyone in the house was going to have breakfast together before we were officially married. The 'elders' in the house wanted to make some sort of announcement before it got too hectic. We went down and saw that Daniel and David were already there. "Where are the adults?" I asked no one in particular. "Oh, they went to check out the guest room" Tiffany replied. "Why?" Bianca asked, reading my mind. "They're making sure it is cleaned up and ready for you and David" Tiffany replied. My mouth hung open. I totally forgot that they had this tradition where the bride and the groom would have to stay in the same room after getting married. This was so not happening. I did not think that they would actually allow this since it was an arranged marriage, but they were just following the traditions. I turned to look at David. He didn't look the least bit worried. All my happiness from that morning died from that simple realisation. I was so not looking forward to that night. The adults of the family came back soon after and I eyed my mother angrily. Breakfast had started and everyone was gathered around the dining table. "Now before we carry on, we have an announcement for you" Irene clinked her glass. "We have a surprise for the lovely couple here!" my mom said. "Since it seems like you both need a break, we have booked tickets for your honeymoon!" Irene cheered, "in the Maldives!" My mouth hung open. "When? How long?" I questioned. "From 20th to 30th November" my mother said. I was taking this better than expected. David on the other hand almost choked on his orange juice. I almost laughed at his reaction, but I was more concerned with the 10-night trip away from my family with the man who was now having a coughing fit. This was not going to end well. I just knew it and we could not get out of it, because they were paying, so they'd know our every move. I was going to be undoubtedly stuck with him. After their so-called surprise announcement, the participants of the morning had gone back to their usual murmurs. It was pretty much quiet except for the adults who were excitedly chattering away. Bianca and Tiffany were snickering at me. I glared at them which only made them giggle more. Daniel joined in their snickering and left me and David to eat alone in silence. This was how the rest of my life was going to be like. I was going to live a single life despite having been married and would have to live in silence. Marriage was going to be great!
