Nova’s P.O.V
Beep, beep, beep.
No! My alarm, please, no? Please tell me last night was all a dream? I groaned, grabbing my phone, switching the alarm off and throwing it down on my bed. I slowly sat up, taking the pain killers because I knew I would need them. I never wanted to move out of bed. I never wanted to go to work. I knew I had to. I can’t let what happened last night mess with my job.
I finally pulled myself out of bed, grabbing a shower, getting ready and grabbed some breakfast. I decided to walk to work, not wanting to risk driving. I had enough time. Plus it would give me time to clear my mind, prepare myself to see Brandon. By the time I got to the building, I had frozen outside, deciding what to do. My decision? I decided I was going to act as normal as I could and not bring up last night. I took a few deep breaths, heading inside.
“Morning.” I smiled at the receptionist.
“Morning Nova. He isn’t in the best of moods again for the heads up, ” She said, giving me a sympathetic smile.
“Thank You for the warning.” I smiled.
I knew why he was in a mood. He was in a mood because of me. I made my way to his office, lightly knocking.
“Enter.” He said, no emotion to his voice.
I was dreading this. I slapped on a fake smile, entering his office. When I walked in he looked up at me, the same look in his eyes as last night, this time I decided to ignore it.
“Can I get you anything, Sir, before I get to work?” I asked, smiling at him.
I was acting normal, but he could not see my hands shaking behind my back. I was a nervous wreck. I could not show him that. He continued to look at me, not saying a single word to me.
“No, we need to get to work. I have a lot of things to get done. As you know, I will be travelling a lot over the next couple of weeks?” He said, and I nodded, “I need you to come with me.” he added.
What? I don’t like that idea. He does not usually take me with him when he is travelling. With all the time I have worked with him, I have been out of town with him twice. He doesn’t need me usually because where he is going, they provide assistants for them.
“What? Since when?” I asked.
“Since I asked that is when. It is part of your job Nova.” He said, his face blank.
I knew why he was doing this, and to be honest, I do not appreciate it. He has a point; it is part of my job, well-meant to be. As I said, he has never really needed me to go with him.
“You will need to add yourself to the bookings you have made for me for the hotels I will be staying at. I need it all done by the end of the day,” He said, turning away from me, getting back to the work he was doing before I came in.
“Yes, Sir,” I said, turning to walk away.
“Where are you going?” He asked.
What is wrong with this man this morning? I rolled my eyes, turning back to face him.
“To add me to the bookings I made for you as you asked me to do,” I said, trying to hide my annoyance.
“You can do it here on my laptop.” He said.
I sighed, shaking my head before making my way over to his desk. I took the seat in front of him, Brandon passing his laptop to me. I nodded, signing in and getting to work. I could feel his eyes on me as I did. I slowly lifted my head, looking up at him.
“Nova about last night,” He said.
“It’s fine. All is forgotten.” I said with a shrug.
“I am sorry. I should never have done that, it was inappropriate of me,” He said, a softness to his voice and in his eyes.
“Sir, it is OK. We both had too much to drink and got carried away.” I said, smiling at him.
He nodded, not saying anything before turning his attention away from me. I got back to what I was doing, booking myself into the same hotels as I had booked Mr Hayes into. I was lucky to get rooms because there was not many left. The last one I had to book was for a three nights stay in L.A.
“Mr Hayes, the L.A hotel has no rooms left,” I said.
“You can share it with me; it is a double room anyway.” He said.
“And where am I meant to sleep?” I asked, confused.
“In the bed with me, where else?” He said, sounding like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Is he serious right now? I am not sharing a bed with him, not after what happened last night. What else was I meant to do? There was no point in me booking into another hotel.
“OK,” I said, my voice not sounding too pleased with the idea.
“I am not that bad am I?” He laughed.
“No. It will just be awkward.” I said.
“I am sure it will be fine. I promise to behave myself, Miss Nova.” He smirked.
No, please do not start the flirting again, I can’t handle it.
“Mr Hayes?” I warned.
He never said a word; instead, he gave me a quick wink. I tried busying myself, distracting myself from him. I could see him look up from time to time, that sexy little smirk playing on his lips. I thought he said last night should not have happened? I thought he said it was inappropriate? Then why is he looking at me the same way he was last night? I can’t go down that road, not with my damn boss. That would be too cliché for me. I am not going to lie; I was seeing him differently. I was finding myself attracted to him and not once I have found myself in over the last two years or so being attracted to him in this way. I found my body sending me signs, s****l signs that were aiming at him, and that is not OK.
“You OK there, Nova? You seem lost in your own little world.” Brandon asked.
“Hmm,” I said, not being able to form any more words than that.
“What is playing on your mind, Miss Nova?” He asked a slight hint of a smirk on his lips.
“Nothing, Nothing it all. Now please stop distracting me and let me get back to work.” I said.
“Well, that answered my question, didn’t it? I am playing on your mind.” He said smugly.
I ignored him, grabbing the laptop and moved to the other side of the room. I hear him chuckle, but again I choose to ignore him. He stood up, coming towards me, standing in front of me. I looked up at him.
“Can I help you?” I asked.
“I am going for coffee, would you like one?” He asked sweetly.
“Um, sure,” I said, confused.
He has never offered to get me coffee before, why now? Maybe he has a change of heart or something, or perhaps he is up to something. Somehow I don’t think I was going to get the answer to that question. Brandon headed off, giving me time to take a moment to myself. I was only hoping whatever this was would stop soon enough.
