“And she stopped screaming, blinked, and looked at me. She was awake, and clearer than I had seen her in a long time. She hugged me and cried, but it was a good kind of crying. She was better for a long time after that. “She told our neighbors about it. Her story didn’t really match what I remembered, but I was five—how was I going to correct her? Then one of our neighbors started feeling like her shuttle was haunted too. She could hear knocking in the walls and was certain something was trying to get in or out. My mother brought me over and we sat with her for a few hours until we both heard it too, a knocking sound in the hull like someone tapping with just their fingernails or maybe a gloved hand, soft but definitely there.
