CHAPTER 18

1596 Words
A Mate And A Scared Sister Billie let out a sigh of relief as she stood outside Vance's door, silently expressing her gratitude to the goddess that he hadn't suspected anything or shown any interest in Nicole. It had taken a great deal of courage to ask him about his mate. Beth had been right all along – they had rejected her and wanted nothing to do with her. What was worse, they had no knowledge of her being in the hospital, not even Alpha Drake and Luna Malia. The absence of any announcement indicated that Beth's efforts had failed. Annoyed, Billie gritted her teeth as she made her way to the stairs. She couldn't help but groan internally at the substantial amount of money they had lost to that despicable omega. Their rival was still alive, while they were missing a considerable sum of money. With Beth not returning, worry had set in, and they had decided to extract the truth from Vance. Billie thanked the goddess that Vance had agreed to accompany her upstairs; otherwise, she wouldn't have mustered the courage to ask him about Nicole. Her next destination right now, was to go home to Millie, where they could begin planning their next move. As Billie descended the stairs, she crossed paths with Vince. "Is my sister still downstairs?" she inquired, but received no response from the grumpy wolf. He passed her with a growl, not even sparing her a glance. Billie made a face at his retreating back and continued her descent. The living room was empty, indicating that Millie had already left. She sent a mental link to Millie, asking, "Where are you?" "On my way home. Meet me when you're done with your boyfriend," Millie messaged. "On my way," Billie replied, opening the door. "That was fast," Millie teased. "Nothing happened. His damn wolf was snarling and growling the whole time. But I got news." "Let's talk when you get home." "Sure," Billie said as she stepped down the porch and turned to her left on her way home. However, she was suddenly overwhelmed by a delicious and intoxicating scent that hit her nostrils, sending her wolf into a frenzy of excitement and desire. The scent was a blend of melted butter and cinnamon rolls. Billie instinctively followed the scent, veering off her intended path, and accidentally collided with a strong chest. Dis she now? "Mate," Lysette screamed in her head as she gazed at the tall, golden-haired male-wolf before her, ready to kiss her. ***************************************************************************** Millie paced around her room, biting her fingernails, spitting them out, and muttering to herself as she anxiously awaited Billie's return. Two hours ago they had mind-linked, and now all attempts to reach Billie failed. She was blocking their connection with a wall. They were both on edge, desperate to learn whether their plan, which they had entrusted to Beth, had succeeded. Beth was completely off the grid. Her phone was disconnected, her home was vacant, and no one had seen her for days. After two weeks of hearing nothing about Nicole, both Millie and Billie had decided that Billie would subtly inquire about the situation from Vance by visiting the alpha mansion, with Millie accompanying her as usual. The rationale behind this was that an alpha would sense a significant disruption in the pack link if a pack member had passed away, and Alpha Drake had made no such announcement. Millie groaned, her light green short dress clutched in her fists, cursing the Moon Goddess for seemingly playing a cruel joke on them after all the effort and time they, as well as their father, had invested in positioning themselves close to the future Alphas of the pack. Dean Ashton, their father, was no fool. He orchestrated family picnics, dinners, sleepovers, vacations, and more to ensure that the two families remained close over the years. These carefully planned gatherings were meant to create a close bond between his daughters and the alpha's sons. Although the alphas were significantly older, their father believed that growing up together from a young age would lead to familiarity, potentially resulting in the alpha's sons choosing the Ashton sisters as their mates. Millie vividly remembered how their father had sat them down in his lavish office with their mother beside him, explaining his grand plan. He showed them the bright future that lay ahead and urged them to reject any declarations of love from other guys. Their ultimate goal was to become the lunas of the alpha's sons, not to be mates to ordinary wolves. At their young ages, they understood their calling and dutifully adhered to their parents' wishes, promising to stay focused and even reject their eventual mates, as their parents had advised. When the guys returned, they knew they had done the right thing. They had left as boys and returned as men. It was relatively simple to revert to their previous dynamic, and they quickly fell back into their familiar roles. They had to discreetly fend off other girls who sought the attention of the alphas, employing threats and various means to maintain their claim on them. Though unofficial, most females in the pack understood not to get too close to the alphas. So, how could a lowly omega even dare to think she stood a chance against them? Mate or no mate? Even though the guys had rejected her, according to Beth, they couldn't take any chances. When it comes to the mate bond, one can never be too sure. The bond had a cunning way of having its way, even after a rejection. They didn't know if Nicole had accepted the rejection, which was why they had entertained the suggestion that Billie had reluctantly agreed to. Nicole had to be removed from the equation. She was already in a coma, so what was she waiting for? It seemed like a favor, considering the state they had seen her in. Millie had a lot to lose, unlike Billie. Billie had been fortunate with Vance. He had accepted her from a young age, and when the girls turned eighteen, Vance asked Billie to be his girlfriend. Unlike Millie, whose relationship with Vance, if one could call it that, always left her with a bitter taste in her mouth. From the beginning, he had made it clear that nothing could or would ever happen between them, not mincing his words or shying away from demonstrating it. Only the encouragement from her family and her strong desire to have him at all costs kept her hopeful. This was why she had to devise a plan to handle Nicole. If anyone were to be blamed for Nicole's fate, it was the Moon Goddess. How could she mate a mere omega with no beauty or class to the alphas? Their alphas? She stamped her foot hard on the floor, growling at the thought of them being her mates. "She can't be! Nicole has boring brown hair and eyes, compared to Billie and me. We are the most beautiful girls in the pack, with our long blond hair, clear blue eyes, flawless and glowing skin, and elegant slender bodies, just like our mother. How could the goddess pass us up and choose Nicole?" Millie screamed in her mind. "She has to go." Especially now that Vince's wolf growled at her, declaring that he only wants his mate. "We shall see, Ares!" Millie seethed. Her door swung open, and Billie entered, looking as if she had just lifted a loaded trailer. She flung her purse somewhere and crashed face-down onto the bed. Millie hurried to her, grasping her dress in her palms, eager to hear what Billie had found out. "So?" She wrinkled her nose at the new scent coming off Billie, wondering if Vance had changed his perfume again. Billie was fond of gifting him with new fragrances, attempting to mask his natural scent because Lysette was allergic to it. This one smelled like butter and cinnamon rolls. "Ughh... I didn't find anything. I don't think Beth did it," Billie groaned again. Creasing her brows, Millie asked, "What's wrong with you? You were perfectly fine before." "Yes, I was, until Vance happened to me." Still not following, Millie asked again, "What did he do to you?" "I went to get answers, not to get pounded hard by a furious alpha," Billie groaned loudly. Chuckling, Millie teased, "You're complaining?" She wished she were the one getting intimate with Vince, his strong, muscular body above her, his hands exploring her, his lips on her skin. Her thoughts wandered, making her wet between her thighs. "I wish I was getting pounded like that," she said, lying down beside her sister, who groaned again and rolled over, her face pressed into a pillow. "It can't be that bad, Bills." "You're not the one who was taken in every corner of his room. He bent me over his couch and kept pounding me for over thirty minutes, in the same position." Millie chuckled loudly, wishing again that it was her and Vince. "What do we do, Bills?" Millie asked after a while. "Can we do this later..." Billie groaned as she rolled over on her back, pulling her legs up before stretching her body, but stopped when she felt the pains in her muscles. "My ass hurts, my core hurts, my thighs hurt, my..." "I get the picture, you can stop. Let's talk after you wake up," Millie snapped, releasing a deep breath. A plan formed in her mind as she left the room.
