CHAPTER 113

CHITCHAT “I am so happy for you!” Mira exclaimed, hugging her best friend tight. “They announced you as their mate and Luna.” Nicole giggled joyfully along with her. “It was scary at a point.” “Yeah, I noticed. Saw the way your eyes widened and your body tensed,” Mira laughed, curling a palm around her friend’s upper arm as they walked outside the hall. “Who would have thought you would one day sit at the Alpha’s table and beside the Alpha twins.” “No one. Not even me,” Nicole tsked. “You have to tell me everything, though.” “Tell you what?” “How did you feel? I know they have been over you since the rejection, the attack and that you stayed in the pack house…” Nicole groaned. “Take a breather, Mi. Which do you want me to answer first?” “Just answer all!” she shrieked excitedly. “Did they kiss you? Did you feel…” “Mira!” Nicole covered her Mira’s mouth with her palm, looking around if anyone was around and heard Mira. “There are wolves everywhere. Ouch!” snatching her hand away when she felt Mira’s teeth on her skin. “Who cares? You’re the Luna now,” she entwined their arms again, dragging Nicole along. “No one dares f**k with you again. Especially those she-devils with their fake blonde hairs and snarky voices,” her voice changed as she mimicked the Ashton girls speaking. Nicole burst out laughing. “You almost sound like them.” “When you spend years listening to them, that can happen.” Nicole mimicked the girls and it was Mira’s turn to laugh loud with both collapsing on the grass, holding their sides. “Wait, let me do their mother,” Mira holds a finger up, trying to rein in her laugh as she mimicked Theresa’s voice. “Please, stop!” Nicole pleads, feeling her sides hurting from the laughter. Tears rolled down the corners of her eyes as they rolled on the ground. Gradually, their laughter subsided, winding down to wheezes that died down as both laid on the grass, facing the dark sky. Remaining in silence as they gazed at the moon and twinkling stars. “I am scared,” Nicole whispered breaking the silence. “If you weren’t I would be concerned.” Silence again. “I think you should give them a chance to redeem themselves,” Mira breaks the silence this time. “From what I have witnessed about them since they came to the hospital to see you, I think something changed.” Nicole’s mind went back to her mates’ confessions. “Nevertheless, I am still scared. I don’t know how to allow them in.” “How do you feel about them?” Nicole took a deep breath, arranging her palms behind her head. “To be honest, I always had good feelings about them…” “Had?” Mira turned to her friend. Still gazing at the sky, Nicole replied. “I woke up one morning and just began having good feelings…getting attracted to them, wanting to be near them. It’s one of the reason why I chose to work in the mansion.” Mira’s eyes widened as she rose to her elbows. “You sneaky she-wolf! How come I didn’t know? You didn’t even tell me.” Nicole threw her a glance before looking back at the sky. “I didn’t know what I was doing then Mi, it just started one day and I couldn’t resist.” “The mate bond is a funny thing. While you were crushing on them, they were hating you,” Mira mused, relaxing back to the ground. “Well, it all worked out well.” “I am still scared.” “If I were you, I would throw my fears away and embrace this present and the future. They can’t break your heart again with their announcement and what you did for the pack. We all saw it and I doubt if the pack would allow anybody take your position.” Nicole scoffed. “The same pack that hated me before then?” “Not all of them. Just the Ashton supporters. And I also want to ask some questions. “Fire away.” “What’s with the fire balls and what happened at your aunt’s shop? You suddenly disappeared.” “I am special. Actually, I have a special wolf.” Mira rolled over, eyes widening. “Get out of here!” After Nicole finished telling Mira everything, Mira was no lying on the ground, but sitting cross-legged, mouth agape, looking down at her friend in shock. “Tell me this just a fantasy of yours.” “Wish I could tell you I just made up a story about a maniac wolf after me. Or that I have a special wolf.” Mira blinked several times as she digested the news. “I still don’t believe.” Nicole simply shrugged her shoulders, yawning as the night grew chilly. “Nicole,” Vance’s voice drifted through the air towards them. The two friends turned to see him at the door of the hall behind them. He fell into a light jog as he advanced towards them. “What are you two doing on the grass?” his eyes darted quickly between the two. “It’s getting cold.” His brows furrowed, gazing worriedly at his mate. “We were just enjoying the night,” Nicole yawned as she got to her feet with Vance’s assistance. “And I was just telling Mira everything.” “Everything?” he c****d a brow at her before looking at Mira. “She’s my best friend and deserves to know everything about me,” Nicole said sensing Vance didn’t like that she told Mira everything. He spoke as he helped her dust her body. “I know. We just want you to be careful,” turning to Mira. “No offense meant, but we are trying to keep her identity hidden.” Mira gave him a sweet smile. “Thank you, Alpha Vance for watching out for her,” then switched to a scowl. “But if you break her heart again, I will never forgive either you or your brother. And I will help her leave the pack and you both,” giving him a sweet smile again. “Goodnight,” she hugged Nicole. “Goodnight, Nikki. We still have shopping to do for my mating ceremony.” “You have very strong supporters,” Vance sighed as they both watched Mira leave. “We grew up together and faced almost the same opposition,” Nicole giggled, feeling proud of her friend. “Now there’s more friends to deal with. Come on,” he took her hand in his. “Your hands are cold,” he noted and began to rub them between his palms. “Why are her hands cold?” Vince growled into Vince’s link.“Get her inside now!” he barked. “Who are you linking?” Nicole chuckled, seeing his cloudy eyes. “Your other mate. He heard me in the link.” “You can do that?” “Yeah, our twin bond sometimes allows our thoughts to slip into our link. Come on.” Vance tucked their arms as they walked. “Why are we going to the mansion?” she asked when he steered her away from the hall. “Everyone’s waiting for you. For us.” “Why? Is something wrong?” He chuckled. “Everything is fine, brown eyes.”
