Chapter 5“How was your weekend away?” asked Erica, chewing gum like a champion since she’d made the decision to quit cigarettes.
“Not long enough,” said Dane. “I tell you what. It’s reinforced my retirement plans. Definitely going to retire down south, in the bush.” He shrugged. “I keep forgetting how invigorating it is to be surrounded by nature. It feeds the soul.”
“I’m more of a beach gal. Give me the sun and the sand and the water any day. That’s invigorating enough for me.” She eyed Dane’s computer screen. “And Tas? How’s he going?”
Dane laughed. “I knew you were hovering for some reason.”
Erica shrugged. “You don’t ask, you don’t learn.”
“We’re fine. More than fine. Brilliant, in fact.” Dane turned slightly in his chair and looked up at her. “I think he’s the one.”
