1272 Words
C O L I N We ran until we reached the forest outskirt. It was one of my best birthdays so far. Friends visiting me early in the morning, not to mention that they woke me up from a good sleep. Mom and dad were also there. It felt like we had a small party in the house and we took a run after. Later that morning, I couldn't help but felt so happy when alpha Cathy and the beta themselves congratulated me as the new member of the warrior unit. Mom and dad were so proud of me. It was the greatest gift ever. So many had changed through the years, alpha Adolf had been poisoned by rogues during an attack when I was sixteen and alpha Cathy, his wife, lead our pack temporarily and I heard rumors that Kurt would inherit the Alpha title as the oldest son on his eighteenth birthday which was today and there would be a gathering at the packhouse, where the alpha, beta, sentinels, and elders were residing, tonight. I was changing into decent clothes for the evening when I heard mom calling me "Colin!" "Yeah." I replied and I jumped when my door suddenly opened. "Your dad and I will go there first. We don't want to be late and—" she pointed her forefinger to the ceiling "—if I won't see you there. I'm going to cut your throat! Okay?" I sighed and nodded. "Okay." "And what the hell are you wearing?" She said in disgust making me glanced down to my outfit. "White V-neck shirt, jacket, and jeans." I said, describing my outfit. "Dios mio! Are you kidding?" She said and walked inside my room, opening my closet. "You're not attending one of those high school parties!" I watched her ransacked my closet. "You're attending a very important ceremony! It's like the coronation of the new king of England!" Mom pulled a black coat making me wrinkle my nose. "You should dress elegantly. Remove that filthy jacket." She demanded. "It's not filthy." I said. "Whatever." I whined inside my head but still removed my jacket, tossing it to the bed and she shoves a coat to me. "I think that shirt looks nice with this coat." She said then pointed my jeans. "And black pants, darling." Mom leaned and kissed my cheeks before she went out of my room in a hurry with one last glance at me. "Better be there or else. . ." She motioned her thumb and made a slashing move on her throat as a threat before she smiled sweetly and gone. Women. I rolled my eyes as I slipped the coat on my arms, removed my jeans and went to the closet to look for pants. Black goddammit pants. I walked to the mirror and found my comb in the drawer, I combed my wet hair into place but I still ended up messing it with my fingers. s**t, I couldn't stand seeing myself in a coat and pants and my hair groomed as if a f*****g cow just licked it! I grabbed a pair of sneakers but placed them back and I grabbed the black shoes. I sat at the edge of the bed and lazily wore them after I had the socks on. I slumped my back on the bed and closed my eyes. I didn't want to go early, so I just slacked off in my room, playing with my phone. After a few minutes, I was surprised to hear howls making me sat instantly and I could feel my heart quicken its pace and my wolf's skin fighting to take over. It was the sound of the new alpha, Kurt. And then followed by the pack's howl. The ceremony has ended. I think there was no point in going anymore. Err. . . Many of the pack attended on feral form and were gathered at the big lawn in front of the pack house which was our training ground during the day. I slipped into the crowd hoping to see mom or dad, so she wouldn't suspect me that I didn't go and s***h my throat with her claws. I saw Sam and she waved her hands at me. She was with Jake. I walked to them. "Hey, birthday boy!" Jake said and we high fived and pulled our hand to bump our shoulders. We always did that unconsciously. I heard Sam chuckled. "I thought you're not going here." She said. "And nice outfit." Jake laughed since he was only wearing a doodled shirt and jeans and Sam had another dress on. "Mom forced me on wearing this." I said in an annoyed voice and Sam grinned. "I can picture you whining while auntie shoves that coat and pants for you to wear." "Exactly!" I agreed and something struck me. I mean, not physically but it woke all my senses. My breathing became shallow and I could smell it. The smell of rain which made me look up into the sky. Nope, stars were everywhere and they were so close to the boat-shaped moon. There was no way it’s going to rain. It was followed by a very strong smell of sweet cinnamon as if someone just threw cinnamon powder right to my nose. I hate cinnamon but I found the smell of the rain and cinnamon together luscious. It was pulling me and I was turning my head like crazy to search for the source of the smell. My eyes stopped at the pack house. It's there. "Are you okay?" I heard Sam asked. "Yes." I said in a low voice without looking away to the pack house. "I need to find. . . mom." I said and walked away, slipping through the crowd. I just wanted to know what it was that smelt so good, was what I was thinking as I walked closer to the house. "Colin!" I blinked and stopped walking when I heard mom called me. "You came." She said, appearing in front of me and fixed the lapel of my coat, soothing it with her hands. "Of course." I said but I could still smell it and I felt like it was getting closer and it was making my heartbeat went wild. There was this need to search for it. "I— can I go inside the pack house?" I asked. "Why? Looking for Will?" Mom asked. "Yeah, dad. I think." I bit the skin beside the nail of my left ring finger. s**t, it was shaking. "Are you okay?" The scent was making me dizzy and I fought my claws not to come out. Whatever it was, it was making me went out of control. I shook my head, running my fingers through my hair. "Yeah, it's just too crowded here." I said though it was not that crowded, I couldn't think of any reason without sounding so dumb that mom wouldn't believe me. "Okay, and yes, you can go inside." She tapped my shoulder and I watched her stride away. My head was now throbbing which made me winced as my chest heaved desperately. I think I just ate something bad that I wanted to vomit. My eyes rolled and I saw a pair of yellow eyes staring down at me and it took my breath away. He doesn't smell like the way he smelt before. Kurt doesn't smell like horse s**t and cat piss and rotten eggs anymore. And God, I love that new smell. It just made my inner wolf restless because he smelt like rain and cinnamon.
