Chapter Six It was an abandoned warehouse in a neighborhood of abandoned things. Outside, there was only the sound of our footsteps crossing the frost pocked parking lot and the distant susurrus of freeway traffic going somewhere else. From inside, I could hear the angry heartbeat of boosted bass. There were a few other cars in the lot and a cluster of motorcycles nearer the door. A loading dock was the porch.
