Chapter 5

2534 Words
Xavier's P.O.V. "You told me that she died the night that we attacked!" My father, the Alpha of the Ravenstone pack, yelled to Gamma Brent. Brent stood at the end of the desk, while I sat across from my father. My father was standing, fists clenched against the table. He was furious about the fact that Luna Tisha and Alpha Torren's daughter were still alive and back in the Silverthorne pack's care. When the attacks happened 18 years ago, I was only 5 years old. My father wanted revenge for the death of my mother that Silverthorne was responsible for. His revenge was to go after the daughter and either kill or kidnap her, in hopes that it would ruin their pack. Gamma Brent stood there, not an expression on his face, taking in the anger that my father was giving him. Father began to bang his fists on his desk. Once he was done, he turned around and looked out the window with his hands behind his back. "Alpha Philip, we never recovered or found her body the night of the attack. One of the spies on the grounds came back to me with this picture as proof that she is back and still alive." Gamma Brent tossed a photo onto his desk. It was a photo of Luna Tisha and a young woman in the woods. The woman was young, beautiful, with bright silver eyes, and black hair that was so long that it covered her ass. My father turned around slowly, picking up the photo and looking at it himself. He gave a focused look, his hair falling around his face, as if his temper was making his hair loose composure. The one thing that is noticeable about my father is that he only has one eye he can see out of. His right eye was completely white while the other was gray and black. He gained a scar across his face, taking out his vision from his right eye from a battle against the Silverthorne. My father looked up at me, giving me a devious smile as if he had come up with the most horrendous plan. "Gamma, when was this taken?" My father asked sternly. " Two nights ago. According to our spy, the Luna went out in the middle of the night and found her by a stream. The daughter has been living among humans for the past 18 years, unaware that she was ever even a werewolf. She transformed that night under a rare blood moon." Gamma Brent explained to him. The spy we have at Silverthorne lives among them, with the Luna and Alpha unaware that he is there. His name is Ryan. "I have a plan, but how it would work is what I am unsure of." My father said, putting down the picture and looking at me. The way he looked at me made me feel uneasy, but I didn't show that to him. I kept calm and waited for him to explain. "What are you suggesting we do, Alpha?" Brent asked him, still standing by the desk, waiting for his orders about what to do next. My father gave a smile that would make the devil fall to his knees. "Xavier, I want you to join Ryan. I want you to be our new spy." My father spoke, his voice harsh. "I want you to get close to that daughter, and when you get close enough, I want you to kill her." I looked at him, still not showing expression to my face, but I could feel the anxiety and pressure of the job already building up in me. "This is bad." My wolf, Tray, said to me. "How far is he expecting us to get close to her?" "Father," I finally said to him, hoping that whatever I said or asked wouldn't upset or piss him off. "How close are you expecting me to get to her?" From the look that my father gave me from asking that, I knew that I had asked the wrong question. His smile instantly turned into a scowl that was dark and cold. "Xavier, I don't give a f**k if you sleep with her! It's not like you have a damn mate yet, and until you do, you will never lead this pack! Is that understood?" He yelled at me with anger. It is true that I don't have a mate yet. Since I've turned 18, I have been waiting and hoping for the day that I will find my mate. But since it's been 5 years since then, I have been losing faith in that day ever arriving. My father always told me that I would never be suited to lead the pack or become Alpha until I had found my mate. "Yes, Alpha." I replied to him, coldly. I didn't want to just be a fuckboy. Sure, it wouldn't have been my first time having s*x, but I still didn't want to be sleeping with someone in hopes of killing them afterwards. I looked at my father, who then waved his hand, signaling me to leave the office for him and Brent to discuss the plan further. "Leave," he said quietly. "You are leaving tonight. My plan is for you to show up at their pack late tonight and begin the process." I nodded, got out of my seat, and left the room. I headed straight out of the packhouse and into the woods behind it. Tray took over, transforming into his silver wolf. "This is some bullshit." Tray said to me. "What does he think that we would do better than Ryan, who is already spying on them?" "Maybe he's hoping that I can get the job done better. We don't know until we get there. I'm not happy about this either, but I can't go against my father's wishes." I said, trying not to stress it as much. Yet, I still did. Tray looked around the forest and finally sat down, looking into the distance. We sat in silence for a while until Tray broke it between us. "What if we find our mate there?" Tray asked me. "Why would we find our mate in our enemies' territory? What stupid question is next, 'what if it's the daughter?'" I asked him, with a mix of snarkiness and frustration. Tray laughed at me when saying the last question. "Well, she was beautiful in the picture. But if she were to be, that would damper with a lot of s**t with father." Tray did make a good point. But, I brushed it off and laughed at the idea of that ever happening. It's been 5 years already. I highly doubt that will ever happen any time soon. The Moon Goddess has made me wait this long. What is the pain of waiting longer? ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Gamma Brent pulled the car around to the front of the packhouse. My father stood next to me as we waited, explaining to me the plan. "When you get close to the grounds, I want you to look like you were a rouge wolf. The Silverthorne's are known for helping rouge's, and that is how Ryan got into their pack. When you arrive, you will be taken directly to the Alpha and Luna. I don't want you interrogating them. Your mission is to get to the daughter, is that understood?" He spoke to me in a strict tone. I could tell that he and Gamma Brent had been discussing and working out this plan all afternoon. "Yes, father." I answered him. "Good. This is your main mission. Fail me, and you will be exiled from Ravenstone. Complete your mission and you will be ranked as the Alpha." He turned and looked at me. I looked at him, still calm but deep down, I was horrified by the idea of being exiled, and even being Alpha. I may have been trained my whole life to become Alpha, yet it was not something that I was hoping to do. Especially for Ravenstone. My entire life, my father has done nothing but belittle me, sometimes abused me because, in his eyes, I was never good enough to become Alpha. I have never been good enough for him. That was when I started to realize that this was my time to show him wrong. We walked over to the car and I tossed my backpack in before getting in myself. My father held the door open for a moment to say his final words to me before I left. "Do not let me down." Were his last words to me before closing the door. Brent put the car in drive as I saw the place that I have hated living in and had for the past 23 years drift past until I couldn't see the packhouse anymore. I saw this as two ways; one being that I don't have to ever return and I could finally live without all the belittlement and abuse from my father, or two, I would come back as either a leader or a failure. Silverthorne was two hours away from Ravenstone. It was a long and quiet ride, seeing how Brent doesn't talk much. When we finally arrived, Brent put the car in park and got out of the car. I grabbed my backpack and got out as well. Brent stood by the car and waited for me. As I closed the door, I faced him, waiting for his next orders about what I should do. Before I could say anything or speak, Brent clenched his fist and punched me a few times in the face and on my chest. It didn't really hurt, but it took me by surprise and I lost my balance, falling to the ground. "The f**k was that for?!" I yelled at him as I wiped blood from my mouth. He held out a hand to help me up, but I pushed it away and got up myself. "The Silverthorne won't believe you're a rouge without a few cuts and bruises to show otherwise. My advice next would be to tear your shirt in a few places to make it more believable." He spoke calmly. I looked at him to see if he was serious before I began to rip parts of my shirt, revealing some of my chest and abs. I turned to him to see if he approved and he nodded. Brent then reached into his pocket and pulled out a phone. "Your father will want updates and proof. He will be calling periodically and I would suggest you take photos of the progress." He says as he hands over the phone to me. I nodded at him while putting it in my pocket. "You should get going before your bruises and such heal. The pack grounds is just south of here. You should see it as soon as you clear the forest." Brent began to head to the car as I started walking in the direction that he told me. "Hey, X," Brent yelled at me one last time. I turned around to face him again. "Good luck." He said to me before he got into the car. I turned back around and started my journey. It was a good 20 minute walk before I finally started seeing lights from Silverthorne. As I got closer, I could see their mansion on the mountainside. "That must be their packhouse," Tray said in awe. "It's f*****g huge! And the town for their pack is amazing!" I looked around and saw the small town that was all part of Silverthorne where all of their pack lived. Shops, clinics, even a small library in the middle of the town, were all surrounded by the omegas' houses. I stood there and looked around, taking in the beauty of this place. Fresh snow covered the ground, and I could hear chatter and people wandering the streets. "Remember, this is only temporary." I told him, trying to tell myself that as well. Tray huffed at me as I began to walk closer to the town. Before I got too close to the streets, I was stopped by someone yelling at me. "Halt!" I stopped in my tracks and turned around. A man who must have been patrolling and part of the army for Silverthorne walked over to me. He was muscular, but nothing I couldn't take down if I had to. His hair was dark brown, like his eyes. He looked familiar to me, but I couldn't remember who he was. "Who are you?" He asked me sternly. "My name is Xavier. I came here to see if I could get some help." I replied to him as he walked over to me. He stopped when he was only inches away from my face before he looked around to see if anyone else was there. "Your father told me you were on your way," he nearly whispered. "I'm Ryan, in case you forgot since I last saw you. Come, this way, I'll get you to the packhouse. Keep calm and don't talk." he instructed as he led the way to the house. As we walked up the mountain, I could see the whole town and the layout of the pack grounds. It was well hidden by the forest and mountains all around. When we got to the packhouse, Alpha and Luna were waiting on the steps. Ryan and I stopped at the bottom of the steps, as he bowed to them, and I followed his lead. "Who do we have here, Ryan?" Luna asked. Her voice was serene and kind. "His name is Xavier. I found him alone wandering the woods. I thought he might need our help, Luna." Ryan spoke to her. Luna and Alpha looked at me before nodding to each other. "Very well, we will seek him treatment and offer him a bed in the packhouse tonight. We can discuss more tomorrow." The Alpha said, his voice was deep and booming, but not as harsh as my father's. I bowed towards them. "Thank you for your kindness, Luna and Alpha." I said to them as they dismissed Ryan, leading me into the packhouse. They took me straight to the medic, who stitched up a cut on my face from Brent's blow. Once everything was good, Luna led me through the packhouse, giving me a tour of the house. "Here is the kitchen, the packhouse gym, the theater room, and dining room. We have already eaten, but please help yourself if you are hungry." She showed me where everything was before heading up the stairs. As we walked up the stairs, I saw her. The daughter. "This is our daughter, Gwenniver-" Luna began to say. "Gwen. Just Gwen, please, mother." She interrupted the Luna. I then realized that Gwen was more beautiful up close than in the picture. Her black hair was wavy, and she wore a black night gown that wasn't too seductive, but still tight fitting, showing her figure. All my thoughts and plans were halted within that second. "Mate."
