Chapter 6: Heart out

Noah POV The second we heard her moans, we started growling. "What the f**k does he think he's doing," said Jamie, slamming his fist against the wall and making a dent in the plaster. "She doesn't trust us as it is, this is going to make it a whole lot worse". I growled in agreement and started pacing the floor. As her moans got louder and louder the tension in the room got thicker and thicker. After what seemed an age, Harry appeared carrying a scared and furious looking Ottilie. Immediately we began to mindlink him. What the f**k dude, I shouted at him, growling as I did so. I don't know what you want me to say, he said lazily, it's not like I didn't warn you. A huge smiled stretched across his face. Hardly the point Harry. Said Jamie joining in, she doesn't trust us as it is, it's not like she's got much experience in the boy department and anyway, we should be protecting her, not trying to f***k her. I glanced over at her, she had her back to us and was apparently ignoring all the drama, I turned back to Jamie and Harry. You're just jealous you didn't get in first, sneered Harry to Jamie, and that I know what it felt like when she gushed over my fingers. In a flash Jamie had Harry up against the wall his hand wrapped around his neck, he roared at him, his eyes swirling from silver to black. Before I could do anything Ottilie had jumped off the bed and on very shaky legs, had pushed herself in between them pushing them apart with her hands. "STOP!" She yelled, "JUST BLOODY STOP." It was a sight to behold, two 6 ft 5 angry looking Alpha's silenced by a tiny and beautiful omega. Her chest was rising sharply as she struggled to stand, a thin sheen of sweat appearing across her face. "I don't know what you're arguing about and I don't care," she added as Harry opened his mouth to speak. "I just want to go home, can you please take me back to my room." Jamie and Harry looked down at her hands on their chests and stepped back from each other, instantly calming down. Interesting, I thought, nothing could usually calm Harry down, especially during arguments with Jamie. I stepped in between and offered my arm, "Come on, let's get those forms signed and we'll get you out of here." She hesitated, clearly weighing up who was the lesser evil, before taking my arm, putting her weight on me and we walked out of the room without a backwards glance. Way to go dudes, I mind linked, if she didn't think we were idiots before she will do now. It was dark when we finally left the medical centre and luckily, as we walked back to the pack house, we didn't bump into anyone. The sky was clear and the moon high, in a week we'd turn 18 and the moon would be full. I couldn't shake the feeling that something big was on its way. I let out a big sigh and Ottilie looked up at me questioningly. She opened her mouth to say something, then shut it quickly. "It's ok, you can ask me" I said softly. "Ask you what?" She mumbled. "Whatever it was you were about to ask me?" She was silent for a little bit, before taking a deep breath. "There's nothing to be scared about, turning 18 I mean. It's not like you'll end up wolfless like I did and anyway I have a wolf now, it just took a bit of time," she paused as she pulled her jumper back over her shoulder where it had slipped off. Her beautiful slender shoulder. I shook my head slightly, I had to get a grip of myself. "And you have your brothers for your first shift, I'll probably have no-one, if I even can shift," she added sadly. I didn't really know what to say, the already crushing guilt I had weighing stronger after her kind words. As we got to the front door I stopped and turned towards her. "You won't be alone for your first shift, I promise," I said softly taking her face in my hands, "I'll be there, or Jamie. I can't guarantee Harry will be, he's not exactly reliable," I smiled down at her. "Thanks," she muttered, not looking at me. I didn't blame her for being distant, it's not exactly like any of us had done much to earn her trust. We stepped in and got to the bottom of the stairs, she looked up at them and winced, obviously anticipating the climb. I'd never been to her room, I actually had no idea where it was. "Let me carry you," I offered. "No no, I'll be ok," she began to climb and I watched her as she stumbled on stair five, "This is stupid, come on, let me carry you, you'll have to tell me where to go though." She nodded slightly and let me lift her. "It will be easier if you wrap your arms around my neck." She hesitated but did as she was told and rested her head against my chest, clearly exhausted from the walk back. "Just go to the top," she said, "I'm in the attic." I didn't even realise we had an attic. The ground floor of the pack house was mostly communal, apart from my father’s office, with the kitchens one floor below. The floor above belonged to lower ranking wolves, the Beta and Gamma, the second floor my brothers and I and the floor above that our parents. We rarely went there in fact I couldn't remember the last time I'd been to see them in their apartment. Luckily everyone was still at dinner so the pack house was quiet, I didn't want to have to explain why I was carrying Ottilie up the stairs. My parents were aware that we'd been looking after her and they were furious. There was a fight coming, we could all feel it. We stopped at the top in front of an old rickety wooden door. "Thanks," she said, "I'll be fine here." "Nonsense," I said, "Let me at least help you get settled." I opened the door and stepped in, my mouth dropping open as I took in my surroundings. Ottilie POV The last thing I wanted was for Noah to see how I was living, I didn't want any sympathy or pity, especially from him and his brothers. His face when he stepped into my room said it all though. The cracks in the walls were a mercy during the summer months but during winter, like now, they made the room bitterly cold. The dusty room was filled with old junk that had been dumped over the years as well as some bits and pieces I'd rescued from the bins in an attempt to make it seem more homely. My thin mattress on the floor was covered with old moth-eaten bedding and what little belongings I had stacked up on a dresser, I'd quickly learnt that putting clothes side drawers instantly made them mouldy. I was just thankful that it was dark and he couldn't see what it really looked like. "It's not much," I mumbled, "but I'm fine here, you can go now, please." I almost begged, his presence was suffocating. I just wanted to curl up on my crappy mattress and go to sleep. He turned to me and closed the gap between us quickly, "I'm not leaving you here," he said quietly and before I could protest scooped me up and carried me back down the stairs to the third floor, his floor. "But, Noah, I mean Alpha Noah, please you can't, I'm not allowed here," I said terrified. I'd been told by the Luna that the triplet’s floor was off limits seven years ago when I'd tried to sneak up there to see them. The beating she'd given me had been enough to deter me from ever trying again, broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder would do that to an 11 year old. He ignored me though and marched purposefully down the bright corridor. It had been redecorated since I'd last been here, with new parquet flooring and sage green walls. Paintings of previous Alpha's and their families adorned the walls and beautiful red and green ikat lampshades added a stylish touch. Noah stopped suddenly in front of one of the doors and digging a key out his pocket, unlocked it and stepped inside. It was completely pitch back but obviously knowing where he was going he walked straight in and placed me on what I presumed was a bed before leaving to turn on the lights. The room was suddenly bathed in golden light and I gasped, it was like nothing I'd ever seen before. The walls were dark blue with dark wooden panelling on the bottom half. I was sat on a huge four poster bed, easily the biggest I'd ever seen. The bedding was soft and thick and I just wanted to slip in between the sheets and rest my head on the soft looking pillows. In one corner was a comfortable looking living area with a huge squashy corner sofa and an equally massive TV. I was surprised to see a wall of bookshelves filled with obviously well-thumbed books. I didn't have Noah down for a reader, it wasn't like he seemed to pay attention much in class. Noah disappeared through a door and came back with some clothes that he handed to me. "You can sleep here for now, we'll figure out what to do tomorrow but there aren't any other rooms that are ready or suitable for you." I looked up at him dumbfounded. "What do you mean "stay here" I can't stay here, your mother will probably kill me if she catches me here and in any case, I'm the Omega traitor don't you know." I said bitterly. His face darkened and he knelt down in front of me and grabbed on to my hand. "I need you to stop," he said softly. "I know that we've given you no reason to trust us but seeing what state you were in and how you've been living," he stopped as his eyes began to water, "I just need to know that you're ok," he added quickly. I couldn't explain it but suddenly I was furious, rage taking over me and I pushed him back and stood up over him. "Are you f*****g kidding me?!" I shouted at him. "It's been seven years, seven years of you lot ignoring me whilst I was beaten, starved and ignored by the rest of the pack, I know you didn't do anything but you didn’t stop it either! You were my best friends and you let a child, A CHILD, get abused by your pack." I started to feel dizzy, and I could feel the blood rushing to my head. "And you want me to trust you! It's a f*****g joke Noah - I'd be better off dead," I spat at him, the rage taking over my body. He started at me open mouthed, as everything started to get more and more blurry, the lights around us flashing. "Tills, your eyes?" I heard him say before I blacked out and fell into darkness.
