Chapter 22 Frank wiped the sweat from his forehead. The wind had dropped. Somewhere in the distance, Frank thought he heard the sound of flowing water. With that, he realised how thirsty he was and took another swig from the bottle they had been given earlier. He handed it to Nero. That, of course, was the other vital consideration. In escaping they had found themselves with no water, supplies or weapons. They had to get back to that airstrip. The hill loomed overhead, and they continued to brush through the undergrowth, glimpses of moonlight casting the plant life with a faint hue. Nero had slipped and nearly fallen into an abyss of darkness but was surprisingly agile and unperturbed by their new situation. Frank let him lead for a while, occasionally hissing at him to change direction.
