95 Leave the Hospital

"Grandpa, do you want to have some apple? I can puree it for you," Barbara said in a gentle voice. Ever since Duke Evans woke up, she had stayed by his bed all the time. Once Duke Evans opened his eyes after a long sleep, she began to take care of him.          Duke Evans couldn't speak clearly now, and half of his body was still unconscious. "W-W-What has he done t-to you?"          "Grandpa, you don't need to worry about me. I can handle it well myself," Barbara smiled.          However, Duke Evans wasn't dumb at all. He knew Barbara must have been through a lot after giving a glance at her haggard face.          "D-D-Don't keep i-it s-secret from m-me," Duke Evans said. It was very hard for him to say a complete sentence now. "I a-already k-know it."          Barbara knew Secretary Tony must have told her grandfather everything. She sighed, "Grandpa, I'm really fine. I don't care whether I have a father or not from now on. I still can live a good life."          She didn't need a father, and it made no difference even if James cut his father-daughter relationship with her.          Duke Evans held her hand and nodded.          Barbara understood her grandfather supported her, and she smiled with happiness, "Grandpa, I'll stay strong and protect myself well."          In the afternoon, Duke Evans was allowed to leave the hospital. James, Kate, and Lily showed up together in the ward.          "Father, let me drive you home." James had mixed emotions when he heard the news that Duke Evans was already awake. He actually felt a little disappointed.          Duke Evans directly ignored James. He was more than disappointed at his son now.          "Father, this is Lily." James pushed Lily ahead and introduced her with a smile.          "Hi, grandpa!" Lily beamed at Duke Evans.          Duke Evans, instead, went to sit on the wheelchair with the help of Secretary Tony and William. "I o-only have o-one granddaughter in m-my life."          He refused to accept Kate and Lily.          Hearing that, both Kate and Lily were upset. It wasn't a big deal if only Barbara was reluctant to accept them, but it was very important for them to gain Duke Evans's acceptance.          Barbara remained silent staying by Duke Evans's side.          "Father, Lily is my daughter too," James said in annoyance. "Please trust me. Kate and Lily are really good people."          Duke Evans gave him a glance, then slightly raised his hand to tell Secretary Tony to push him out of this ward.          His attitude showed everything.          Barbara followed Duke Evans behind and left as well.          Lily glared at her back. "Don't think we'll lose like that!"          "When have you won once?" Barbara turned around and sneered.          Lily was mad, and ached to tear Barbara to pieces.      "Lily, let's send your grandfather back home together," Kate said. There was no need for her to argue with Barbara again, because she already became Mrs. Evans now.       Although Duke Evans didn't like them, James insisted on driving behind and sent Duke Evans back to the old house.          "Father, can I talk with you about something?" James hesitated for a while, then opened his mouth under Kate's look of anticipation.          Duke Evans looked displeased and took the coffee Lucy handed him with a trembling hand.          "Father, Kate and I are legally married, so Lily is also my daughter now. Don't you feel lonely living here alone? Lily can move in and keep your company," James said.          How shameless this man was!          Barbara shook her head.          "Get out!" Duke Evans was furious, and the hot coffee splashed out a little.      "Grandpa, watch out!" Barbara took the cup away at once. Seeing her grandfather's red scalded hand, Barbara got angry and criticized James. "What are you doing? Do you have to annoy grandpa every time you come here?"   "My grandpa just told you that he hates this woman. Do you plan to force grandpa to accept her?"   James glared at Barbara. "You're simply a spoiled child, and your grandpa shouldn't listen to you!"          "Get out now!" Barbara lost patience and felt disgusted arguing with James.          "You..." James rounded his eyes in shock. William moved a step forward at this moment.          He wasn't aggressive, but it was enough to make James lower his voice.          Thinking of the heavy punch, James didn't dare shout at Barbara again.          "Father, Kate and I will have the wedding the next month. I hope you can come. After all, I'm your only son. Don't you want to see me living a happy life?" James said and softened his voice.          He tried to persuade Duke Evans with their family connection.          Barbara turned to look at Kate.          Kate wore an elegant smile all the time in silence, and let James do everything for her.          Did she plan to join the Evans family like that? It couldn't be that easy!          Barbara pulled her lips.          At the end, James still failed to get Duke Evans's approval, and he had to leave with Kate and Lily.          Barbara shared dinner with Duke Evans, then went back to Sidwell Friends School with William the next day.          The Evans family was the focus of the media these days, and Barbara's schoolmates also paid much attention to her.          They were curious to know whether she could still be Lady Evans.          Some girls who had flattered Lily before now regretted it, because it couldn't be more obvious that Barbara wouldn't accept Kate or Lily. Even though Kate successfully married James, Barbara was still the most important figure in the Evans family.          Barbara even had the power to unseat her own father, which impressed everyone.          The best way for Barbara's schoolmates to please her now was to stay away from Lily who was Barbara's enemy.          As a result, before Lily came back to their school, many students already made the decision to keep a distance away from her.          Barbara was the only Lady Evans in the Evans family, and they clearly knew that.          Given the way the drama unfolded in the Evans family, Scarlett must be the one who felt upset most. She also hated Barbara, because Barbara could directly affect William's position in the Morgan family in the future.          And she would never allow William to join the Morgan family.
