After breakfast, Maximo left for his meetings, and Carter came to take me on a city tour. As I sat in the car, I realized my husband worked so hard. Just like yesterday, he worked throughout the day, and at night, he planned a candlelight dinner date with me. Later, he made me feel so special and forced me to believe that I was married to a man who was totally different from the man I had known for years. I learned slowly that the cold and ruthless Maximo Leonardi could also smile and laugh. But I could not deny that his smile was the most beautiful one I had ever seen—still intimidating and dominating, but less scary and more enchanting.
