Derek's POV
I just sat in the living room till Goddess knew when. Abigail tried to talk to me but I just didn't want to talk to anyone.
I slowly got up and walked to my room. I called Lana again and again but she didn't answer. That's when I started worrying. Did she even reach her home? What if?? No...! This is a complete forest and I don't even want to imagine what would have happened to Lana.
The only person's name popped in my head is Verna!
Yes..!!! She can help me reach Lana.
I scrolled through my messages and finally got her number. Without wasting a second I dialled Verna and waited for her to answer. It rang and rang and finally went to voicemail.
Jeez! What's happening???!!!!
I was thinking of an alternative to reach Lana and that's when my phone rang out loud. It's Verna.
"Hello? Derek.. is it really you?" Her voice was sickly sweet and odd.
"Yeah! Did Lana come home?" I asked her.
"Yes. She is in her room. Do you want me to pass the call to her?" Verna asked.
I got my answer that she reached home safely. And I also got the point that she is purposefully ignoring me. She is not going to talk to me and it's all because of my dad despising humans.
"Are you ok Derek?" Verna brought me out of my thoughts.
"Uh.. yes. Thank you Verna" I said and was about to end the call.
"Derek ... Hold up!" She squealed.
Now what?!!!
"She is sad. Any problem?" She asked and I mentally cursed myself.
"I can't tolerate your family disrespecting mine again! Even generations have changed but this is still the same!! Can you all f**k off please?" She yelled and hung up.
What did she mean?
I called her again and it went to voicemail. I called her again and again. For the fifth time she answered my call but greeted me with a yell.
"Now what is your problem? Leave us alone will you?" She yelled.
"What did you exactly mean??" I growled a little.
"This is something I can't really talk about like this. Let us meet and I'll tell you what exactly I mean." She said.
I looked at the clock and it's already 9 pm and she lives in human territory. It'll be pretty late for us to meet, talk and get back home.
"Ok! Tomorrow morning?" I asked her.
"Fine. I'll text you when and where later. Now Lana needs me." She said and didn't even wait for my answer.
She hung up again and I am left with my own thoughts again. There is something that I am missing and I want to know that. I am pretty sure Verna knows something that I don't know. I wonder how the night passes with these thoughts!
I just couldn't sleep so I opened the file of Bloodsuckers. These people are so interesting though. Their lifestyle, hunt for food and their troops. Everything is fascinating for some reason.
I didn't know for how long I was asleep but I jolted awake by my phone ringing. I guess I fell asleep somewhere in the middle of the night.
I unlocked my phone only to see a text from Verna.
Verna : The clearing a little far from your borders. At 10 am.
She chose the safest place. Clearing is a little far from Bloodmoon Pack lands. But that's fine...! It's fine as long as she reveals what she knows.
Derek : Ok! See you there.
I hit the send option and rubbed my eyes. It's already about sunrise and I let out a yawn. My stomach grumbled making a frown creep on my face. I haven't eaten anything since last evening.
I quickly got up and ran to the washroom to brush my teeth and have a shower.
"You stink!" Abel commented.
"Just like you" I countered and blocked him before he gave the comeback.
I tiptoed to the kitchen and opened the fridge to find the leftover Mac n Cheese! I put that in the Microwave and waited for it to get heated. I quickly took it out before the sound woke my family.
I sat on the couch and devoured the food. I was pretty starving and Mac n Cheese is exactly something I would love to eat without any hesitation.
"So you're hungry huh?" I heard Kian's voice from behind.
I chose not to answer. I shoved a spoonful of Mac n Cheese into my mouth and closed my eyes, getting lost in the taste. I have to agree mom is an amazing cook!
"I know you're sad. But this is definitely not the way to take it out. Alpha King Jaxon is always right, remember?" Kian said with his hand on my shoulder.
I just glared at him and made him raise his hands in surrender and sat on the couch silently. I finished the remaining food and without anyone recognising me, I gotta be out of pack lands.
I quickly stood up and started walking towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Kian raised his voice.
I didn't even pay attention. I took dad's keys and hurried out. I saw Kian running up to catch me. I got into the car and locked it before he could get in. I gave him another glare before making the engine roar.
I reached the borders within no time. One growl from me and they let me out. By the time I reached the place Verna mentioned, it was 7 am. It is still a forest area so I used it to let my wolf free. It is suddenly a cloudy day in the middle of the spring.
Abel roared and ran while I just enjoyed the speed. Abel is a fiercely fast wolf and sometimes it just makes my human side drowsy.
I took control from Abel and walked back to the clearing. Verna was already waiting for me. I approached her and she let out a low growl. But my growl made her shut her mouth and give a little bow.
"What did you do to my daughter?" She yelled.
"Nothing that concerns you. And I wouldn't do anything that hurts Lana" I said sternly.
She glared at me and flared her nostrils. What the heck is her problem anyways?
"This is the exact thing your dad told me years ago" she spat.
"What do you mean?" I asked her.
"Oh! Looks like your dad didn't let you know. Well, let me tell you that your dad was and is the biggest asshole I've ever seen" she spat again.
I roared, making her fall on her knees in an instant.
"I already made it clear. DO NOT DISRESPECT ALPHA KING" I roared again that made her flinch and fall on her knee.
She was silent for a few moments and then raised her head to meet my eyes.
"Ask your dad about a girl Veronica. And then you can actually know what an asshole he is" she whispered.
"Before asking him, may I know who this new woman is?" I asked impatiently.
"She was the chosen mate of our Alpha. Alpha Jaxon Malloy" she whispered again.
"Chosen mate?" I was confused.
And what kind of new concept is this? We are supposed to wait for our mates instead of choosing one we want. Right? Or is it the other way??
"Yes. Your dad wanted the strongest pup ever. And Veronica was the top warrior of Bloodmoon Pack. So he wanted to mate with her and give birth to the strongest pup that would rule his pack" Verna got on to her legs again.
"Well, you know what? I don't believe this bullshit. Don't waste my time" I dismissed her and walked back to my car.
She didn't even follow me to hear her out and that is settling something odd inside me. Before I drove away I looked at her. She was glaring at me. I just didn't care.
I reached the pack borders in no time and the pack house in moments. As soon as I went in I earned a slap from my dad.
"You thought it's heroic to just cross the borders whenever you want and come back like nothing happened?" He yelled straight in my face.
"I told you! I warned you about the threats you have just outside the borders. And you went alone? For what? To die??" His voice was dangerously low that sent chills down my spine.
"I can do whatever I want" I managed to talk back.
"You are not the Alpha yet and keep your voice low before me Derek!" He yelled again.
"I am the Alpha King. I am your dad and you will listen to me." He said, making me mentally roll my eyes.
"Jaxon .. leave him for once. He'll learn" mom tried to talk but one glare from dad was all needed for her to stop on her tracks.
"He needs to know what kind of monsters are waiting for a chance, Mia. He needs to know that he can't f*****g do anything by himself till he completes his training. He needs to know that he is still under our roof" Dad spoke to Mom with his eyes on me.
And that's when I've had enough.
"Dad, who is Veronica?" I asked.
His eyes went wide and the colour from my mom's face drained. I looked at Aunt Skye and Uncle Tyler only to see they mirrored my parent's state.
Now this is unsettling again. Does this mean what Verna told was right?
