Chapter 13

Derek's POV

"Derek," I said, extending my hand for a shake.

But to my amusement he pulled me in for a hug. He seems so chill and I already like him. He greeted Abigail, Kevin and Kian too and turned towards dad.

Both just nodded towards each other.

"Oh and yeah.. meet my girlfriend Madeline" he said holding a lady's hand who stood shy behind him.

She looked so beautiful with blonde hair and blue eyes. She just waved a shy hello to everyone and stood beside her boyfriend.

"Oh My Gosh! You didn't even tell me." Mom said, smacking Tal.

"Hey Madeline! I'm Mia Malloy," mom introduced herself and hugged her.

"Oh I know you. And just call me Maddie" she gave a shy smile again.

"Tal says about all of you. Ashley and Skye.. hi" she waved another shy hello followed by an awkward laugh.

Moments later everyone sat in the living room recalling their high school times. I never knew even mom had a dorky side in her until Tal came. It's like.. mom is so comfortable and she is smiling like a highschool girl again.

"Tell us about Dad and Mom!! Please Uncle?" Abigail whined.

"Uncle??!!!! Tal will do" he said.

"Your mom was the best person ever existed.. to me of course" he laughed earning a smack from mom along with a giggle.

"I always remember her as the sulking girl. She would sulk all the time at school and the only time she wasn’t ... was when Jaxon was around" he said.

Abigail mumbled an Aww and dad looked at Mom. Weird... I guess I saw a little regret on his face! Why??

"And your dad was the most popular at school and all the girls are just around him like bees around honey." He laughed.

And later on he talked about stories of their friendship and how Mom once almost had a heart attack hearing the rumours dad was changing schools.

During dinner the table was so noisy and for some reason it felt good. Tal is like a ball of energy and his aura is so comforting. Heard he didn't like dad at school. Looks like dad still doesn't like him.

"So.. why this sudden visit?" Mom asked Tal.

"I missed you" he said holding my mom's hand and the next moment we heard coughs from dad.

I still can't shake the face of dad looking at Mom before. I swear I saw regret in his eyes. But why? Weren't they a happy couple at school? I'm sure they were happy...I mean..look at them. They can't stay away from each other. Was I missing anything about mom and dad's story?

"Earth to Derek" Kevin whispered and I faked a smile saying I'm fine.

It was finally the time Tal and his girlfriend left. Mom, Aunt Ashley and Skye formed a good bond with Tal's girlfriend Madeline and they were all teary eyed when they left.

And soon Aunt Ashley left with Uncle Rafael. It's just us again.

"It was a long day. Good night Kids" Mom kissed me and Abigail.

Dad nodded and followed mom.

I silently walked to my room still in thoughts. There is something I don't know. Maybe dad doesn't want me to know. Dad knows what's best. So if he thought that wasn't necessary to me.. then it isn't worth my thoughts.

With that, I shook off the feeling and went to bed.

My stupid alarm clock woke me up and I initially cursed whoever invented this piece of s**t.

I went down and heard Mom and Dad laugh about something. I always look at them and pray to the Moon Goddess that me and my mate one day could be like that. I wish my pup could look at us and think Damn! My parents are so in love. I believe in true love because I saw that in my mom and dad.

I cleared my throat making them turn towards me.

"Derek! Come sit with us" mom said tapping the empty space on the couch beside her.

"I'm fine mom" I said with a smile.

"So! Just 3 weeks away. You will find your mate. Are you excited?" Mom asked, clapping her hands.

"Yeah. Sort of" I said not knowing how to answer that.

"Aw! Look who's blushing?!!" Mom said, making dad laugh.

"Ok! Enough with the insults I need to get ready for my school" I cut them off by running from there.

Jeez! They have a way to embarrass me!!

My phone buzzed indicating a text and I rushed towards it. I knew it's Lana because who else knows my number?!

Lana : Shocker! Dad married my step mom and brought her home.

Derek : Wow! They sure as hell are behaving like teenagers.

Lana : She wants to meet you

Derek : Me??

Lana : Well yeah! Told you she is weird. See you at school.

She definitely seems weird. Why does she want to meet me? I didn't even interact with Lana's dad and now meeting her step mom..is kind of strange?!

Uncle Nick offered to drop us and I just knew why. All along the way he couldn't wipe off that sick smile on his face and that only made me more curious about my own mate. Just a few days until I finally meet her.

"Thank you Uncle" we said and started to get down when Uncle Nick pulled me back.

"Derek! You can help me" he grinned.

"With what?" I asked and that sick smile just gave off what he wanted to say.

"Get in trouble so my mate can call me again and again. Till I ask her on a date. Please" he asked and I just couldn't deny.

It's a mate issue and my parents always told me to help mates no matter what the situation is. They believe in mate bonds.

"Ok" I said and got down.

I watched Uncle leave the school and started walking in. That's when I heard her yell.

"Der!!" She yelled, getting my attention.

Behind Lana was a petite woman with red hair. And she looked like she's in her thirties. She might be the step mom Lana was talking about. For some reason she seemed strange.

As she came nearer and nearer that's when I got it that she is a werewolf. Her scent just gives it off. Is her mate a human too? Is she just like Uncle Nick?

"Hey!" Lana hugged me as soon as she reached me.

"Hey" I whispered with my eyes still on that lady.

"She is Verna. My step mom" Lana introduced her.

I just nodded, not knowing what to talk about before Lana. I wonder if Lana knows she is a werewolf.

I mindlinked Kian to call Lana so I can talk to this lady in private. Within moments Lana received a call from Kian and she left while rolling her eyes.

"I know you are a werewolf" I spoke as soon as Lana left.

That lady didn't even reply but she stared at me with teary eyes. Why is she even crying?

"So are you the son of Jaxon?" She asked.

"Alpha King" I growled in a whisper.

No one disrespects my father. He is the King to werewolves no matter what rank they have.

She momentarily bowed and I nodded.

"You've grown a lot" she said touching my cheeks and I stepped back.

"You look just like your dad. Hope your dad changed at least now" she mumbled.

"Excuse me?????" I almost yelled at her.

"I'm sorry" she said and ran off sobbing.

What the f**k happened just now?

What did she mean she hopes my dad changed?

And who is she?
