Chapter 17

Derek's POV

It's been a week and now I am fine. Abel and I are getting along well too. I also started my training as an Alpha King and also as a Lunar Wolf.

All the time during training I can't help but admire my parents. Damn! The power they ooze is just so immense and that is why everyone automatically falls on their knees in their presence.

Lana came by twice to meet me again. And she always complained that my parents didn't like her. I've been observing their behavior towards Lana as well. And the only theory I could come up with.. is that she is human. Dad always hated humans. That one point pretty much explains a lot.

Dad asked me to stop attending the human school. He said there is a lot I should learn and I can't do that if I spend most of the time at school. The journey to human territory is equally time consuming and he has a point.

But I miss Lana!

"I don't have a good feeling about her buddy!"

Hearing Abel's voice sometimes is new to me. I am getting used to it but few times.. I panic, making Abel laugh hysterically.

"Because she is human? Stop with this old man" I rolled my eyes and blocked him.

In Lana's case.. I keep him blocked for most of the time. He is just so nosy and doesn't like Lana just like mom and dad.

"Derek?" Dad came to my room.

He usually doesn't come to my room until it's very necessary. I usually go to him or he mindlinks me.

"Come with me! There is something you should know" he said and the urgency in his voice made me nod my head without a word.

We walked to his office and he sat on his chair. He placed a document before me and I have to say. It's huge. Just to read and grasp the info.. it might actually take me days despite me being a bookworm who loves to read no matter what the book is.

And the title is bold with only one word in it BLOODSUCKERS

I've seen dad checking some other files with similar names recently.

"Ever wondered who our main enemies are? He asked.

I just shrugged because I really don't know. But one thing I know is they feed on blood, I guess? Because the name says it all, bloodsuckers!

"Ok! You got it partially right. But let me tell you some other things which are new to you. Bloodsuckers are those that specifically feed on human blood. Also the biggest problem is werewolf existence." Dad nodded his head at the end.

This is a lot to take in.

"But why are we their biggest problem?" I asked him.

"They have hated us ever since we started protecting humans indirectly from them. And just like their nature, they get angry when someone takes away their food." Dad shrugged.

That makes sense.

"And in this, is everything about bloodsuckers. Read this so you can get an idea about them! Also, at the end there is about a covenant that abducted your mom and Aunt Betty. Make sure you don't miss reading about that because their biggest Target right now.... it’s you!" He said with a stern face.

I would be lying if I said that didn't give me goosebumps. I was worried nothing would come out so I just nodded my head and left there with this giant thing with me.

I didn't waste any time and started reading the very next moment.

"Derek! Your friend is here to meet you" Aunt Skye said with the lowest voice I've heard of her.

My friend? Oh! That must be Lana!!

"Okay!" I said and walked to the living room.

That's when I saw it's almost evening and I didn't even know I've been reading about Bloodsuckers till now. They are an interesting species I must admit.!

In the living room sat Lana staring at the floor like that was an interesting subject.

"Hey!" I whispered and she turned to me with a biggest smile.

"How are you?" She asked for which I nodded saying fine.

"What's wrong?" I asked her, looking at her standing impatiently.

" Can we just go to your room?" She asked.

I nodded and we went to my room. Lana released a long sigh as soon as we entered my room. What is wrong with her anyways?

"Maybe this will be the last time I'll be coming to visit you" she said with a frown.

"And why is that?" I asked her, tilting my head.

"Your family doesn't like me Derek. I am a nervous wreck whenever I come here ok? I try my best but .." she shook her shoulders and I really felt bad for her.

Ok! Maybe she is a human. But my family has been treating her the same way since days ago. I would feel bad if I was in her shoes.

"Come with me," I said.

"Where?" She asked and I didn't have time to answer her.

I held her hand and dragged her to the living room. She kept on whining to stop and she didn't stop asking what I was doing but I didn't give a damn.

"Mom! Dad! Everyone!!" I yelled as soon as I stood in the middle of the living room.

Just within moments everyone came asking if I was alright or if I needed anything.

"I am fine, Thank you! But my best friend here is not!!" I said my eyes on people around me.

"And why is that?" Abigail asked me with an attitude I never saw.

"Because of your ill treatment!" I said.

"She might be a human but you people have no right to treat her that way!" I mindlinked them and shut that off immediately before Lana looked at our foggy eyes.

"She is my best friend Mom!" I whispered looking at her.

No one spoke a word.

"And we ill treated her?" Uncle Tyler asked.

I nodded my head. I see the frown on her face constantly when she is with me and I just couldn't wipe that off.

Everyone was talking about something or other but only dad was silent. And his silence was killing me. I want to know what's going on in his brain. What is he thinking?

"Ok! No offense!! If we treated her badly we would apologize " dad paused.

I know! Dad is the only one who can understand things way better. Like.. look at him now! He acknowledged the ill treatment everyone was giving to Lana. Everyone in the room looked at dad.

"You all know that whatever I say is the final decision here right?" He asked

We nodded in Unison except mom. It's like she knew what he was going to say. Can matebond do that?

"Then here it is! Miss Lena.." dad said.

"It's Lana" Lana and I said in Unison and laughed to ourselves.

Dad simply rolled his eyes and Abigail as well.

"Yeah,whatever your name is... this will be the last time you will ever visit this place or Derek." Dad said and I froze.

"She is my best friend Dad!" I whispered.

Dad loves me right? He would consider something if I told about it, right?

"And this is for what is good" he glared at Lana and walked back to the office.

I didn't even know what to say. Is dad wrong or me? But .. no one even spoke for me. Does that mean I was mistaken? And does this also mean that may be the last time I'll see Lana?

I turned to my right only to see teary eyed Lana. Her tears... I can't!

"Can't you even say a word on my side?" She questioned me with a quivering voice that hit me like a ton of bricks.

She left without turning back and I just fell on the couch.

I just lost my best friend just because of my dad.

Maybe dad can't be the right one all the time.
