His people loved him but they would still have reverenced and adored him had he been not nearly so worthy of their affection. Lord of all he surveyed, he would indeed have been difficult to please if he had not been happy at Cotillion. Indeed he had only to express a wish for it to come true. Although it had thrived throughout many centuries of English history, Cotillion was far from being old-fashioned. It was, in fact, as modern as money could make it. There was a Polo ground in the Park, there were squash courts, indoor tennis courts, a billiards room and there were bowling greens and croquet lawns, there was an archery range for those who were proficient with a bow and arrow and there was a lake stocked with rainbow trout for those who preferred fishing.
