I walked down the long corridors, my chest heaving, my mind filled with Matthew's words. The pictures he had taken of me and Nikolai, the gaze in his eyes. It felt like I didn't even know the man standing in front of me. Like he wasn't the beautifully innocent Matthew that I had grown up with. I swallowed hard, keeping my head down as I reached the large lecture hall. I stopped outside, my lips parting slightly, my fingers clenching lightly. I could tell Matthew was right behind me, but I couldn't bring myself to look at him, or everything he had said back there would break me down and I would never be able to pick up my own pieces. Neither of us said a word to the other as he came to stand beside me, his fingers slowly intertwining with mine. It felt like bugs were crawling all over me,
