Grace knew that he was speaking the truth. Alastair informed the Solicitors that, if he returned to England, he would bring his wife and his daughter with him. If they were not welcome, he would remain in France. They had rented comfortable rooms in Montmartre and, although they could not afford any luxuries, Grace was an excellent cook. As Alastair professed, what more could they possibly desire? In France, as before, he did not use his title. He was known amongst his friends by the name with which he signed his pictures – Lister.
