"So he's coming to pick you up?" Gabe scrolls through his phone while propping his feet up on the coffee table across from the couch.
"We're you raised in a barn? Get your feet off my coffee table!" My mother came into the room with her loud voice that could grab anyone's attention.
"You are the one who raised me so you tell me." My mother swatted his feet off the table and frantically straightened up the living room.
"Gabe respect your mother!" My father shouted from being in his office.
"Where is he taking you?" Cody chimes in from the kitchen. I swear the kitchen might as well be Cody's bedroom since he was in there all the time lurking around and snacking.
"I don't know he wouldn't tell me and trust me I tried to get him to tell me all day yesterday but he didn't budge." I routinely keep checking my phone wishing that time would go by faster then what it was.
"I can't believe you are going on a date! It's been since the Stone Age since your last date!" Gabe unnecessarily piped in to tease me which was getting on my nerves.
"Oh, and where's your date, Gabe? Oh yeah, that's right you don't have one because no one wants to go out with a little boy with a little p***s!" I shot earning a dropped jaw from Gabe and a chuckle from Cody who was making some concoction in the kitchen.
"Mom!" Gabe pointed to me hoping that my mother would scold me for the rude comment but she shrugs it off instead.
"I mean you did have a small p***s, I think Cody compensated for the both of you." My mother goes to pat Gabe's stomach to which Cody and I die laughing. The best thing in the world was when my mom was on your side because of what you just heard.
My head snaps up as soon as I hear a knock on the door, it must be Harry! My heart jumps and I head towards the door to go out to him.
"All of you better behave yourselves for the 30 seconds or else!" I point to my eyes and then Gabe, Cody, and my mom. I also say a little prayer in my head that they won't do or say anything that could potentially embarrass me.
I twist the knob of the front door and pull it open to see Harry in red flannel layering over a KISS band tee and black skinny jeans that let me appreciate his thighs. A pair of black sunglasses sat on the top of his head and pushed back his curly chocolate locks.
"Hey!" A smile lights up my face seeing him in my doorway looking like some Abercrombie and Fitch model.
"You ready to go?" He asks me and I nod taking his hands that he holds out for me. I walk to the side of the street to see Harry's white Audi R8 that I wanted to drool over.
"Nice whip!" I admire the glossy finish on the car and start to feel just a little bit insecure about my home and overall neighborhood. You could conclude with his car alone that he was living comfortable.
Taking the handle I opened up my door and slid into the back leather seats that still smelt like new. My hand moves against the leather and I feel the softness beneath my fingertips just as Harry shut his car door.
"Are you going to tell me where we are going now?" I click my seatbelt on because if I had learned anything from Dora as a child it was to buckle up.
"In the spirit of October and Halloween coming up, I thought we could go to a pumpkin patch." I was going to hand it to him, he was actually really creative with date planning. I would have expected a standard dinner and movie type date but he surprised me with something I would have never thought about doing.
"There are pumpkin patches in Miami?" The landscapes of Miami I would have never thought it produced pumpkin patches. It was warm year round here and despite it being fall out palm tree leaves didn't change colors or fall.
"It's a little bit out of the city but yes there are in fact pumpkin patches in Miami." He rides out of my neighbor and onto the long stretch of freeway that is clogged with all types of different drivers. I wag glad that I wasn't driving because I had some serious road rage and when I say I call upon Satan to wipe other drivers off the road I am not kidding.
"So are you going to dress up for Halloween?" I ask Harry turning to look at him, his jade eyes are trained on the road while his hands are fastened to the steering wheel. He looked hot as hell and I am pretty sure my ovaries were one by one exploding inside me.
"I don't know I'm not a huge fan of Halloween, I never really was even when I was a kid," Harry told me and I arched a brow thinking about little kid Harry. I tried to imagine what he looked like and what he used to dress up as.
"What do you mean you were never a "huge fan"?" I scoff thinking back to my own childhood and how much fun I had with my friends going trick or treating. Even in high school, Halloween was fun with all the parties and haunted houses. "It is literally a holiday where you can demand candy from random strangers! People are giving you FREE candy!"
"I don't know it was never really my thing as I kid!" A smile formed at the corner of his lips as I tried to make him see that Halloween was a kids dreamland. Not only did you get free candy but you also got to dress up as whatever you wanted... well almost anything. My mother would never let me be Ariel from the Little Mermaid or Jazmin from Aladdin because she would lecture me about being modest. She would have bathed me in holy water if I ever walked out of the house in a bralette or clam bra as I 6 or 7-year-old.
"You can't tell me you didn't like dressing up as whatever you wanted! Plus afterward, when you and your friends had hit up every house at least twice you all sat down and traded candy!" I express making hand gestures and everything to explain my point. I am pretty passionate about Halloween considering some of my best memories stem from the notorious scary holiday.
I gasp and touch Harry's arm coming up to a realization, "Did you not like Halloween because you are a p***y ass b***h who was afraid of Halloween?"
"What?! NO!" He over exaggerates and a smirk tugs at the corners of my mouth knowing that Harry was afraid of the holiday.
"You are so afraid of Halloween I can practically smell the fear wafting off of you!" I fold my arms and give him a satisfied expression that provokes him to further deny my claims.
"I am not afraid of Halloween!" Harry denies to me occasionally looking over at me who keeps a big grin etched on her lips with taunting eyes. I wouldn't have imagined that Harry would be afraid of Halloween but, we all have our little quirks and this happened to be Harry's.
"Okay than Halloween night we are going to the scariest haunted house I can find in Miami!" I plan out in my head excited about the whole thing already. I wanted to see how scared Harry really was and if I was right he was going to agree to this to prove he wasn't afraid.
"This is stupid!" Harry whines craning his head over so he can glance at me with a frown.
"It's only stupid if you are afraid to do it." I poke fun hoping I can catch his ego.
"I'm not afraid! I just think haunted houses are lame is all." He replies and putting on the cool guy act that I was going to destroy when we went to the haunted house on Halloween. I could hardly wait to see it happen!
"Do you know what else is lame? You being a p***y!" I tease getting Harry to sigh in deeply and keep his eyes on the road, hesitating to speak again.
"Fine! It's a date!" Harry complies to my request which I am more than thrilled about.
"It's a date!" I nod wanting to go Google what Miami had to offer when it came to haunted attractions. I was thinking an insane asylum or maybe a haunted corn maze in the spirit of Halloween itself! Ideas were running rapid in my head and I became all that more excited to be spending time with Harry inside of a haunted attraction. I couldn't wait to feel him cling onto me with fear as I would hold tightly onto him, it was actually kinda perfect!
We had arrived at the little pumpkin patch just a couple miles out of the city. The little farmland was filled with families and little children running around playing with all the different activities there was to choose from. Pre-teens lined the food lines with hoard and groups while busily swiping through their phones despite them being in the company of their friends which I never truly understood.
"Tell about your first ever case." I fold my arms as we walk the long rows of the pumpkin patch. It's quieter over here with less of the rowdy kids and more of the parents picking out different sizes of pumpkins.
"My first case?" Harry has his black sunglasses on to shade his eyes from the intensity of the sunlight burning through the clouds.
"Yeah, your first case as a divorce attorney!" I look over at him and see his eyes from the side of his glasses he is wearing.
"I mean it doesn't hold a candle to Jeremiah and Becky but..." I nudge him and earn a little giggle from him which makes my curl my lips. "My first case was between a couple obviously and they had told me they had fallen out of love. I didn't understand that, though, I didn't get how you could just fall out of love with someone you once loved so much ya know?"
"Yeah." I nod to response and go on with another question, "So did they call off the divorce ever or did they go through with it?"
"They went through with it. It was actually a really easy first case but to this day I still wonder if they have ever fallen back in love with each other. I just don't understand the concept of not loving someone as much as you once did." Seconds later I feel a heat linger around my hand until a bigger hand clasps around my own. I look down to see Harry holding my hand in his bigger one and bit my lip trying to not look like an i***t with my smile.
We go on to talk about all kinds of random things and I realize just like Kylie Jenner, how much I really do enjoy Harry's company. He was so easy to talk to and I liked that I didn't have to try so hard. Nothing was forced between us and we seemed to just flow together, I liked it. We had picked out our two little pumpkins to carve which I ahd told Harry before hand I would need help since I couldn't draw let alone carve worth s**t!
"I'm going to use the restroom real quick, I will be right back," Harry tells me as I stand next to the pit full of corn kernels. Kids practically swam around in this pit of corn that was probably full of urine and other bodily children's fluids.
"Okay, I'll just wait right here," I tell him feeling him let go of my hand and head towards the restrooms. As soon as he is out of sight I pull my phone out and begin to try and find Talia's contact... that is until a group of rowdy pre-teens rush past me and bumps into me causing me to lose my grip on my phone. I watch my phone fall straight into the pit of corn kernels... yep... the pit with several kids piling over each other. I see it sink and internally scream inside seeing that I can no longer see my phone.
"God damn it!" I whisper-yell to myself annoyed at the group of pre-teens that had caused all of this.
"That's a mean word!" I hear a tiny high pitched voice say causing me to turn my gaze to a little 6-year-old or so girl. Her little blonde pigtails are crooked with one being higher than the other, she stares at me with big brown judging eyes.
"I'm sorry, you are right that wasn't a nice thing to say." I apologize to her coming up with a brilliant idea. "Hey, do you want to help me with something?" I ask her seeing her nod her head vigorously.
"What is it?" She asks with a little lisp from not having one of her front teeth. She was actually really cute with her blonde bangs messily arranged and brown eyes lighting up when she saw that I was asking for her help.
"I dropped my phone into the pit, do you think you could help me find it?" I ask her with much enthusiasm to get her even more excited about helping me find my nine hundred dollar phone.
"Yeah!" She answers diving back into the pit of children and corn while I watch her busily search for my black iPhone with a pale pink case over it.
"It's pink!" I shout to her as she goes under the kernels every so often, avoiding getting trampled by the groups of kids horsing around in the pit.
A hand is placed on my shoulder as I shout at the nameless little girl different encouraging statements to boost her finding abilities. "Hey, what's going on?" My ears pick up Harry's British accent and I turn around to meet his bright jade eyes.
"Some kids bumped into me and my phone fell into this pit," I explain turning back around to see the little girl with a phone bigger then her hand hold it up in the air.
"That's it!" I spring my eyes growing wide with happiness seeing the little girl had found my phone. "Can you bring it to me please?"
"If you want it you gotta come get it!" A devilish expression comes over her face and my stomach automatically drops into my pelvis.
"Oh hell nah!" I swear shaking my head to see her swinging my phone in her hand with a mischievous look on her face. That sweet little face was now etched over with the devil.
"Where are you going?" Harry calls my way as soon as I hurdle myself into the pit of grimy corn kernels and I sink in almost immediately.
"Little girl you are going to hand me that phone right now!" I see her giggle and swim away, hiding among all the other kids. I surf through them all and push past trying to find the blonde little girl that had my phone.
I am waist deep in the pit, the kernels slowing me down when I spot her taunting me with my phone in her hands. I run towards her only for her to dodge me all too easily, I am becoming frustrated with the corn going down my shirt and into my shoes.
"Come and catch me!" She squeals getting all sorts of enjoyment out of this.
"Hey! That phone that you are holding right there," I start coming up with something perfect, after revealing this to her there was no way she would want her hands on my phone. "It's been down my shirt!"
Her face drops immediately and I then earn a long over dramatized "Ewww!" She hurls my phone towards me and I catch it in mid-air. After retrieving my phone Harry lends a helping hand to me, assisting me out of the pit of boogers, urine, and many other bodily fluids.
"You okay?" Harry asks me as I shake off all the stray kernels I can. I feel them in my shoes and in my bra which I decide to pick out the best I can.
"Fighting with kids in a corn pit full of boogers and s**t? Yeah, I am great! Everything is peachy!" I give him a sarcastic thumbs up earning his dimpled smile that stabbed my soul ever time I laid eyes on it.
"I saw an ice cream booth just around the corner, why don't we go take a little break." Harry grabs my hand once again taking me to the cute little ice cream booth just a few feet away. He couldn't have read my mind any better.
N. I love writing this book so much! What do you guys think?
