It’s going to be okay

Asher’s POV. I scream out loud, my voice raw with pain, and punch the large rock in front of me, feeling the jagged surface shatter beneath my knuckles. The force doesn’t ease the anger roaring through my veins. She’s gone, vanished back to that f*****g monster. The thought of him, the bastard who marked her, drives me insane with fury. My fists clench tighter, and I shift into my wolf, needing the release of my primal form as I sprint back toward the kingdom. The memory of her scars, her bruises—his mark on her neck—floods my mind, fueling my rage. The bastard that hurt her, that forced his claim on her… I’ll tear him apart. As I approach my home, I force my mind to link with Carter. He’s waiting in my kitchen when I arrive, Arya at his side. Their expressions are weary, concerned, but they’re holding back their questions, waiting for me to speak. “It was definitely her.” I try to keep my voice steady, but Arya’s smile falters as she sees the anguish on my face. “She remembers nothing of her life with us. She goes by another name now—Lorena.” I can see the confusion in their eyes, but I don’t stop. I have to get it all out. “She’s being held by another species,” I continue, my breath coming faster as I recount what happened. “She jumped into a small cage, and a giant dragon lifted her into the sky.” Carter’s and Arya’s eyes widen as they listen intently, but I’m barely aware of them anymore. The image of Lorena, scarred and bruised, has taken over everything else. “That’s not the worst of it,” I choke out. “She was covered in scars. She had a bite-shaped bruise on her face and a… mate mark on her neck.” My voice breaks, and the tears I’ve been holding back finally fall. Arya gasps, her own tears spilling, and pulls me into a tight embrace. I collapse against her, the sobs tearing from my chest. “I don’t know what to do,” I admit between shuddering breaths. The pain is unbearable, the thought of her being hurt, of her being claimed by someone so vile… She holds me tightly, comforting me until I’ve run out of tears, my face swollen, my throat raw. Carter breaks the silence first, his voice low but resolute. “We’ll save her, Asher. I promise you that. The fact that she’s gone to that spot twice is a good sign. Do you think she’ll come back?” I shrug, trying to fight the hopelessness creeping in. “I asked her if she could return tomorrow. She said she’d try.” He nods, thoughtful. “Then that’s what we’ll focus on. Arya and I will get Iliana and Leonis. They might be able to help. We’ll make a plan together, okay? You just try to distract yourself for now—find something that might help trigger her memories when she comes back.” I nod, grateful for Carter’s steady presence. But when they teleport away, I’m left feeling hollow, broken. I wander out into the garden she created, the place where her magic made everything bloom so vibrantly. It’s beautiful, serene, but the sight of it only deepens the ache in my chest. How am I supposed to help her remember when everything she ever made, she simply snapped away once she was done with it? She had nothing to hold on to… except for the things she always kept on her. I look down at the bracelet on my wrist—the one she made me when I was under dark magic. Suddenly, an idea clicks into place. I know exactly what I’ll give her when she comes back. I head back inside, my heart racing with new purpose. Carter, Arya, Leonis, and Iliana are waiting, their expressions a mix of sympathy and determination. Iliana rushes toward me, her pink eyes shimmering with tears as she wraps her arms around me. “It’s going to be okay,” she whispers, her voice soft but firm, as though speaking the words aloud could make them true. She pulls back, her hand resting on my cheek, and looks into my eyes with her all-seeing gaze. Through her omniscience, she knows exactly what happened, and her tears fall harder. Leonis joins us, pulling us both into a hug, his face wet with his own grief. The alpha king’s tears mirror the storm raging in my heart, and when he speaks, his voice is low and dangerous. “We will kill him, son. We’ll get her back.” I nod, my jaw set, my resolve hardening. Iliana’s voice, calm yet sorrowful, fills the room. “I can’t see her… There’s magic blocking her presence, likely from the one keeping her. But from Asher’s memory, I can see she’s been emotionally manipulated, possibly cursed. I noticed a tattoo on her ankle… it’s made with draconian steel and silver. That’s what’s keeping her from accessing her fairy and wolf sides.” The weight of her words sinks into me like lead. Whoever took her had planned this meticulously. The marks on her body… they weren’t all recent. Some had been done over time, almost daily, healed only with medication to prolong her suffering. “And what of the dragon?” I ask, my voice tight. Iliana looks down, though her face remains grim. “I couldn’t see the dragon’s eyes, but I know she’s not an enemy.” I clench my fists, the rage inside me threatening to explode. “How do we cleanse the tattoo?” I ask, desperate for a way to break this hold over her. Iliana looks at me with sympathy. “I’d need to see it up close to know for sure. It could be something we can physically remove, or it might require a more complicated cleansing ritual. We’ll know more once you see her again.” I grit my teeth, the fury simmering beneath my skin. I’ll do whatever it takes to get her back—to free her from him. And when I do, there will be no mercy for the one who took her from me.
