GEMMA'S POV:
I woke up against his chest, warm, content, and feeling safe. He was still wearing his shirt, and probably boxers, but no pants. I blushed slightly and looked around. It was my morning off, and I knew I was awake at least an hour before I had to be. My alarm would go off when it was time, so I turned my body, facing him and relaxing enough to close my eyes again.
I didn't fall back asleep, but I cuddled until I heard the alarm. He made a small noise and opened his eyes and looked down at me before he smiled. "Good morning."
"Good morning." He whispered back, careful not to breath on me as he turned to lay on his back to wake up and stretch. I sat up and he let his hand fall from where it had been around me. I started to climb over him to turn off the alarm and when I stood, he sat up quickly, grabbed my hips and pulled me back down. His lips went over mine, and I took a moment to respond.
I kissed back, my hands were finding their way around his shoulders and neck. I felt him slowing down the kiss, and I moved to sit on his lap, he was still mostly covered by the blankets, but I could still feel him. I knew when we pulled away that I would be blushing, but something deeper down was like rooting for me, saying 'go girl I knew you had it in you' and that little voice was telling me to stay right where I was.
Until I heard Monica's door open. I pulled away slowly and looked at the closed bedroom door to see if she was going to knock, or if she was going to the bathroom already. I heard another door close and I looked down at Avery and gave him a smile.
"You can go back to sleep if you want. I am going to make her breakfast, lunch and then do her hair." I told him and he nodded slowly before he let me get off his lap. I went to grab my long sweater after turning off the alarm. I opened my door, went right to the kitchen, grabbed everything for her oatmeal, and kept it quick. I had it ready on the table when she came out, dressed, hairbrush in hand, and two rubber bands.
"Morning sissy." I repeated the phrase and she started to dig into her oatmeal.
"I want two French braids today please." She told me and I just went right around her back, starting to separate her thick hair. I made sure there weren't any tangles before I started to braid. I usually did it all pretty fast, but sometimes her hair went the wrong way and stuck out, but it was the little tangles that appeared out of nowhere that really irritated me. I was almost done with the second braid when I heard my door open and then the bathroom door close.
"Who is that?" Monica asked and turned her head as if she could see through the bathroom door, and the hallway wall.
"That would be Avery." I told her and she looked up, almost making me pull her hair, and she smiled wide at me. "How are you feeling about the last day before break?" I asked her to change the subject and she started saying how they were supposed to make some secret Santa gifts today in class. They would choose a name, make a gift, and at the end of the day give it to their person.
"It should be fun." She told me and I smiled softly.
"On Sunday we will go and get a tree, a small one." I told her before she could ask if we can get one to the roof this year again. I made sure her fly aways were wet before heading to the bathroom to get her gel. Avery was just coming out and I smiled and went past him, grabbing it before realizing he was walking into the kitchen.
"Good morning Avery." I heard Monica chatter away about how it was her last day of school and he sat down as I started to gel her part in place. I listened to him tell her about what it was like to come home on leave when he was on active duty, and he told her how Christmas was always special for him and his sister.
I was done and doing the dishes by the time I realized it was almost time to go. I made her a fast lunch and filled the clean water bottle up until we were headed out. I was going to walk her with Avery until he said we could drive there.
"In that car!?" Monica seemed so excited I had to laugh.
"Yeah. In the car. If we do, then you have to sit in the back." Avery said and looked over at me to make sure it was ok.
"Ok." She ran down the pathway, standing next to the door and I just laughed and looked at him. We all got in and after he put the car in gear, he reached over and held my hand, keeping them in my lap though as I told him how to get to her school.
When we got there, I got out, pulled the seat forward and let her get out. I kissed her forehead, and she ran off, some of the kids noticing that she arrived in a nice car started talking to her. I watched her get in the gate before getting back in the car, and he took me back home.
"Have to go shopping again today?" He asked and I looked over at him and nodded.
"Yeah, have to go looking for a ham and other Christmas dinner stuff." I told him, I knew I should invite him along to dinner, we were heading that direction... but I felt like he already had plans. He did have a sister and her family to celebrate with.
"Quick trip?" He asked and I nodded slowly, and he smiled. "Then you can drive." He told me and I blinked hard. "Practice your parking and stuff."
"Ok." I got up from the couch we were relaxing on and went right for the bedroom door. I heard him flip on the TV, and I went to find something cute to wear. I usually didn't put much thought into the outfits I wore, but if this was going to be a whole day thing with him, I wanted to put effort into it.
I got an old dress out; it was from maybe 4 years ago. It was a little black and white flower dress, ending just above the knees, and a zipper that ended in the middle of my back. I got the zipper closed on the back with little difficulty, then looked in my mirror, twirling a bit to make sure that it still covered everything. I pulled on some tights to go with it. I grabbed flats and headed from my room to the bathroom and started to plug in my curling iron.
I brushed my teeth, rinsed with mouthwash, flossed, and moved to start brushing out my hair. I got it all curled and set with some bobby pins before adding a bit of makeup to my face. I walked out and watched him look me up and down.
"So now you look amazing and I look like Rumpelstiltskin, with bad breath and-"
"We can go get you new clothes and you can brush your teeth at your place if you want." I told him and he smiled and nodded.
"That sounds fair." He stood up, shutting off my TV, and we headed out. He got in the driver seat to drive to his place, I put the bags behind me. He took off, like a rocket until we got to his house. It was two stories, wide, kind of pretty.
I was going to wait in the car, but he told me to come on in. I looked around as we got to the top of the stairs and he pushed open the front door. He waved me in first and I tried not to make it obvious that I was looking.
"I'll be back down as soon as I am done." He took the stairs two at a time and I looked around more of the living room. I saw some pictures, a nice grey couch, a big TV on the mount on top of a fireplace. I looked around more and saw a nice kitchen with lots of gadgets. It looked nice.
I went back and saw some pictures along the wall before getting to the side of the pictures that showed who I assumed was Avery and his sister and their father as kids, some formal pictures. No smiles, sharp little suits and dresses.
At least it seemed like Jackie and he had each other. I got to the graduation pictures, and I saw Jackie with a couple girls, wide smiles, and there was one with them both, he was way smaller in the chest and arm department, but he was adorable.
"Find something you like?" I turned and looked at the top of the stairs to see him trotting down in blue jeans, white shirt, and a leather cut.
"Just you when you were young. Cute kid." I told him and he laughed lightly before coming over to look at what I was.
"I think I was 14."
"Super skinny." I reached over and patted his stomach and he laughed again.
"Protein diet with a Marine regime of workout methods." He told me and I nodded slowly, and he waited for something. "Get a good look or should I go back upstairs so you can finish snooping?" He asked with a smile and I rolled my eyes.
"No, I was just keeping myself occupied." I told him and he smiled a bit wider before leaning down and grabbing my hand and pulling me closer. He gave me a kiss, and I did the same thing as this morning and wrapped my arm around his neck and he leaned down a bit, lifting me like a weight, and making me wrap my legs around him.
I felt the wall at my back as we moved around a bit, and I was a little out of practice, but he was making sure to take it slow with me. I could taste the toothpaste on his tongue, I could feel his body pushing into me and slowly tensing up as I moved my hands through his hair.
"Coffee?" I tensed and pulled away from him to see Jackie, his sister from the diner, holding coffee in her hand and the same guy from the bar the other week, was with her.
"What are you doing here?" Avery let me down slowly and I lifted my hand to my lips and made sure my dress was pushed down flat as I composed myself.
"Well... I do have some things left here dear brother... I needed to get it. I thought you would be home... and bring you a coffee." She smiled wide, looking between me and him before she looked like she was about to have some fun. "This is nice and cozy. You're the girl from the diner and the bar, right?"
"Jackie-"
"Yeah." I nodded and looked from her to Avery and then down at my feet.
"So, you're together? Like more than a one-night sort of thing?"
"Jackie stop." The guy behind her whispered and his smile showed that he was trying so hard not to laugh.
"Come on. He's been going out with so many women since he joined the club. You know I want him to settle down-"
"Jackie please-"
"I'm just saying. Playboy mansion here is crumbling fast." I looked at the wall this time and tried not to focus on what she was teasing him about. Lucien told her to get what they came for and she giggled and strutted up the stairs saying that we were cute together.
"We're going before she comes back down. See you Luce." Avery grabbed my hand and pulled me along until we were outside. He went towards the passenger side and opened it up for me.
I swung my feet in before he could shut it on them. I waited as he got in and he and I were driving in silence when he pulled off to the side and went towards the curb quickly. "I want to make sure you understand that what my sister said... what she meant... I am not a player. Yes, I had one-night stands, but I am not doing that anymore. I am only perusing you. I want to date you. Are we on the same page?"
"Yes, we are. I had some doubts. You're too hot to not have some women falling all over you. Was I worried that I would be one of many? Yes. But you're kind of good at proving my wrong. You don't leave me alone for too long. You get a little jealous when men flirt with me." I told him and he seemed to search my face for something. "You're a good man Avery, and I am not going anywhere because of your sisters teasing."
"That's good then." He told me before reaching over, cupping my cheek, and bringing me in for a quick kiss.
"Shall we get on with our day?" I asked and he nodded, keeping my cheek in his hand for a couple swirls on my face, before he pulled out of the small space we were sitting in, and he held my hand in my lap before he drove to a store I've never been in.
We walked around, and there were a lot of things on sale, lots of hams to choose from. I got everything on my mental list for Christmas dinner, and even some treats to make to bring to Jackie's daughters party next week.
I ended up saving more money than usual, and I put it aside as soon as we were back at my house.
