Chapter 3 It looked like a music video from the 1990s, when even Madonna was playing around with Goth. It was shot in black and white, sometimes in slow motion and sometimes sped up. There was music of a sort, though not a style most people would listen to. Ominous, monotonous drumming and chanting. Masked figures in hooded robes. Strange, discordant noises that reminded me of the time I helped a coworker destroy an old piano with a sledgehammer. Someone with a deep voice reciting something in Latin. A man breathing loudly but raggedly, as if in panic. The combination of noises and images was artfully arranged, reminding me of a student project or maybe an independent horror movie. It was unquestionably disturbing, the sort of thing you wouldn’t want to watch alone in your house at night
