The Meriel Foster Homeless Shelter was on Grant and Thirteenth street, on the far west side of town. It was a two story wooden sided church built back in 1947. It only took six minutes to get there from our place, but it was a distance, for sure. My aunt pulled into the parking lot and someone met her at the back door, holding open the door for her. She had called earlier, letting them know she was bringing in the baked goods for breakfast. Thank yous came from no less than five people who were up to their elbows in work, either serving or making the breakfast.
