PRESENT TIME…
ADRENALINE pumped my blood so that the circulation would not stop. I recovered from being frozen on the ground because of Rhys’ presence. This was not the time and place to think about the past or cry over the traumatizing experience. What happened was tragic, yes. I was violated and assaulted in ways that were always a nightmare for females in my world. But it happened a long time ago. I survived—though because of Rhys’ help—and I need to put on my big girl shield for Flint right now.
As I waited for Flint to do her job, I contemplated my escape route. I did not know this area of the woods. Hell, I wasn’t even familiar with this small village. All my life I had only known the main city, the town where I grew up, and even then, my father rarely ever let me out of his sight.
