"Hi," Alpha Brady whimpered and narrowed his gaze at me.
"Good evening, Alpha of Alphas," I greeted him when he acknowledged my presence.
My greeting was followed by a weird and uncomfortable silence, making me wonder what will happen next.
"I could be mistaken," Alpha Brady shrugged. What's your name?" He inquired.
"Lily Brown," I replied.
"Got it," he shrugged again and pushed a stack of papers and a pen towards me, and I lifted my eyes to take a closer look. It was a prenuptial agreement, a legal document that our community signs before a wedding or bonding ceremony is done.
As I attempted to read through the legal jargon on the page, the room fell silent. In my confusion, none of it seemed to make sense to me.
"I would like to consult a lawyer before signing the papers," I whispered quietly, hoping Alpha Brady wouldn't hear me. He pushed back his sunglasses and took a deep breath, and I braced myself for his wrath. However, his response was not what I expected to hear.
"He is a lawyer. He can explain everything to you," Brady pointed at the man sitting beside him. I looked at the man but he seemed like an accomplice in my eyes, so I shook my head.
"I want to use my own lawyer," I murmured.
"Do you have a lawyer?" Brady asked.
"No, but I will hire one."
"When?" He asked and I did not answer him because the money I had in my account could not afford a lawyer.
"Anyway, take as much time as you need," he said calmly, standing up from his seat. He checked his watch and continued, "Alpha Zerek, the former Alpha of Lunar Guardians and the former Alpha of Alphas, will be retiring soon. I would like you to meet him."
My heart began to race at the prospect of meeting his father. I composed myself and spoke. "May I please have some time to freshen up and change my clothes before the meeting?" I asked, lowering my gaze to the ground.
"Stephanie, please take her to her room and help her freshen up. Bring her to me in twenty minutes," Alpha Brady instructed before scurrying out of the room. His two friends followed suit.
The female bodyguard gestured for me to follow her. I rose from my chair, gathering all the legal papers that were laid out for me to sign. As I trailed behind Stephanie, my heart raced with anticipation.
As I stood at the entrance of the bedroom, my eyes widened with awe. It was as if I had been transported into a utopian paradise. The room was decorated with opulent furnishings and adorned with mesmerizing artwork that left me breathless. The walls were painted in a soothing shade of sky blue and the crisp linens on the bed looked inviting.
Despite the extravagance of the bedroom, a sense of trepidation crept up on me. Was this all too good to be true? Was it a trap? Nevertheless, the beauty of the room lured me in. I entered and I began to look around.
"Come on, Lily Brown, we only have twenty minutes," Stephanie urged me as I continued to scan the room.
Following her lead, I went to the bathroom to freshen up before making my way to the closet to change into a light dress. As I stepped out of the closet, Stephanie handed me a customized wristwatch.
"Make sure you wear it at all times or hold your phone for communication. Simply type in the name of the person you want to talk to, and they will respond immediately," she instructed.
I hesitated for a moment, examining the sleek design of the watch before ultimately setting it down on the table. Without any time to waste, Stephanie guided me out of the room.
"The Alpha's lounges are situated on the top floor of the castle," Stephanie said as she led me towards a long hallway.
"Alpha Zerek occupied the centrally located lounge, while Alpha Brady took up the left lounge," she said and halted in front of the stairwell.
"Access to each of the lounges is available via separate elevators. But I preferred to use the stairs," she said and gestured to me. I nodded and began to climb the stairs while she trailed behind me.
As we reached the halfway point, Stephanie gestured towards Alpha Brady's lounge, located towards the left, and hurried down.
Just as I was about to take the last step, when I saw a woman entering the lounge and after a few seconds, her voice rang out. "Brady, Mira just told me that you invited Lily Brown?"
There was no response from Alpha Brady.
"Brady, I'm talking to you. Did you bring the girl here even after I told you the truth?"
"Yes!!" I heard Brady's baritone voice.
"Why?" The woman yelled and I froze. "Brady, can't you let this girl be?!"
"Nelly, you are in no position to advise me because you started this madness!! Allow me to finish what you started!!" Brady clapped back.
"Brady, calm down. She is your mom," a voice said in the lounge.
"She stopped being my mom six years ago!" Alpha Brady said.
"Would you ever forgive me?" I heard the woman's voice. She sounded quite pathetic.
"Nelly, please, leave my lounge. I'm expecting someone."
.
Started what? I asked myself trying to remember ever having any encounter with a woman. I shook my head because neither I nor my sister offended anyone.
.
"Stop! Brady, I say stop! Send her back to the Eclipse pack first thing tomorrow morning!" The woman yelled.
"No! You led me into this!"
"And I have apologised countless times! Brady, I'm sorry!" The woman continued yelling.
I stood on the stairs for a moment, contemplating whether I should go to Alpha Brady's or go after my kids.
I changed course and headed towards the lounge that was on the right. I had no intention to walk into the lounge. I just wanted to stand on the balcony until the brawl between mother and son was over.
I never knew the lounge at the right belonged to Alpha Lunaris until I saw a luxurious placard hanging at the entrance with "happy birthday Alpha Lunaris" written on it. The placard shimmered with a subtle sheen that caught the light and reflected it like a diamond. The words on the banner were embroidered with golden thread that glistened and sparkled in the dim light.
As I drew near, I could hear the sound of multiple voices coming from within. Faint laughter and chatter could be heard, indicating that the Alpha's birthday guests were still in a jovial mood. It seemed the party they did in the hall was not enough.
The entrance opened with a whoosh on detecting me. All the people in the lounge fixed their eyes on me. I had no choice but to walk majestically inside as if I came to deliver a message to Alpha Lunaris.
The lounge was tastefully decorated too with plush furnishings, and expensive decor. I could see elites gathered around a table, popping champagnes, and nibbling on canapes.
My eyes scanned the room, trying to locate Alpha Lunaris. Eventually, my gaze landed on an imposing figure seated on an ornate armchair in the corner of the room. Alpha Lunaris has a commanding presence, exuding raw power and grace in equal measure. He was engaged in a conversation with an Alpha. He lifted his gaze towards me, grimaced, and gestured to a chair. I sat coldly as though I was sick. I began to think of a message to deliver to him and suddenly an idea popped up in my head.
When the Alpha he was talking to stood up and left, Alpha Lunaris looked at me and crooked his fingers. I stood up and began to move closer. I wondered why I had no single fear for him, unlike his brother.
