"What's your question?" Alpha Brady asked as soon as he sat down on a chair and crossed one of his legs, projecting a relaxed and confident demeanor.
"Before I sign the papers, I would like to know if there is anything about your past or family history that I should know."
Brady brought his leg down, placing both hands on my knees. He took a deep breath and smiled softly, savoring the closeness between us.
"Everybody has a past, and every family has a history. Let's talk about our future instead of resurrecting horrible experiences that took us years to forget," said Brady, narrowing his eyes.
I wasn't surprised that he skipped the question, although he was right. He sat back in his chair, relaxed, and crossed his legs.
"I never knew you had pups until I asked Alpha Kian about you two years ago. I want to ask, now that you are here, will their biological father be involved in their lives?"
"No," I shook my head.
"Did you have any custody or legal arrangements with their biological father?"
"No."
"I didn't tell him about them. He doesn't know we have pups."
"Why? What happened between both of you?" His voice had become softer.
"I don't want to resurrect a horrible experience that took me years to forget," I whispered, feeling a weight on my chest. "Alpha Kian should have completed the story."
He grew quiet for a time, seeming to mull over what I had just told him.
"I heard that you compose songs for artists, is that correct?"
"Yes," I nodded.
"You have a great voice. I think you should stop writing for them and produce your own album. What do you think?"
"It's my dream. But I need a backup plan to do so."
"Don't worry, I've got everything planned for you."
"Really?"
"Yes, I'll show you what I have for you tomorrow," Alpha Brady said and I lowered my gaze again. He took a deep breath and spoke again.
"So why do you need to talk to a lawyer before signing the prenup?" He asked after a moment.
"I don't understand some legal terms in the documents," I responded.
"Let me explain it to you then," Alpha Brady shrugged.
"That will be tomorrow. My eyes are heavy. I need to go to bed if you don't mind."
Alpha Brady stood up after a long silence and left the room. I quickly followed suit, hurrying towards the door to close it before he returned. However, I couldn't seem to close it, and when I turned to look, I saw a woman standing at the entryway. Her golden dress was illuminated by the dim room light.
To my surprise, I recognized her as Alpha Lunaris's mother, the former Luna of Lunar Guardians. My heart raced as I let go of the door and respectfully greeted her.
"Good evening, ma'am," I said in a hushed tone, wondering what she was doing at my door.
"There's no need to ask who you are, I've already figured it out. I overheard him talking about the prenup," she said, and I shuddered at her impressive hearing abilities.
"Do not speak to his lawyer or allow him to explain anything to you. Instead, send the documents to Alpha Lunaris. He has only been practicing for four years and has already earned the title of Senior Advocate at a young age. He possesses exceptional knowledge in the field of law and handles only complex and challenging cases. He assists both humans and werewolves in making critical decisions," she said while giving my shoulder a reassuring pat before continuing down the seemingly endless hallway.
I stood still and stared at her, wondering why she was around my room at this time of the night. Her actions were unusual, and I couldn't understand if she was trying to save me or not. As she walked down the hall, the two questions kept pounding my head. I took a deep breath and closed the door of my room, then crawled into bed with my pups and cuddled under a warm duvet.
"But why did Alpha Brady ask Alpha Kian about me two years ago?" I asked rhetorically as soon as my head hit the pillow.
Our first night at Lunar Guardians was not what I had expected. I had braced myself for horrifying scenes, knowing that Alpha Brady intended to finish what his mother had started. I couldn't help but wonder what Alpha Brady's mother had started.
With one eye open, I drifted into sleep
.
I rubbed my eyes sleepily and slowly sat up, feeling the chill in the air. I shifted the curtains and looked out through the window and saw that the sky was overcast with dark, grey clouds looming overhead. I could feel the anticipation of rain in the air, almost as if the heavens were teasing me.
I shivered slightly and wrapped my arms around me as I watched the weather under the cozy warm duvet.
The trees outside swayed gently, their branches rustling in the breeze. I could hear the pitter-patter of leaves hitting the ground.
I felt a sense of peace and calmness descend upon me as I looked out at the world. It was a new day and a fresh start.
I rolled out of bed and headed towards the bathroom to run a bath. Suddenly, I heard Mira's voice coming from the gold watch that was on the table.
"Lily Brown," she called out. Before I could even walk towards the table, Mira called out my name again, "Lily Brown."
"Good morning, Mira," I said softly, trying not to sound annoyed by the early interruption.
"Have you engaged with Vega today?" Mira's voice came through the intercom watch once again.
Confused by her question, I responded, "No, I just got out of bed. Mira, who is Vega?"
"Oh, my God! We have breakfast in the next ten minutes and it's a tradition that everyone must be present at the table! You ought to be ready by now! I'm coming there right away," Mira said before ending the conversation. The light on the watch switched off, leaving me feeling bewildered and rushed.
Five minutes later, I emerged from my bathroom and saw Mira and my sons standing in front of a tall domestic robot.
"Vega, how old are you?" asked Tyler with a smile on his face.
"I don't age," Vega simply replied.
Mira, who was gorgeously dressed, turned to me and said, "Lily, this is Vega. It can do a lot of things. It can answer your questions, remind you of important events and traditions within the pack, and even help your kids with their homework."
"All you have to do is ask it a question, and it will give you an answer. It also includes a video screen that can display pictures, videos, or whatever else you need to see.
Furthermore, Vega can help you control all the smart home gadgets in your room, such as the lights, window blinds, and temperature. And when it's time for bed, it can even read your pups a bedtime story."
"Thank you, Mira. We can't wait to start using it!" I exclaimed gratefully.
"Vega, please bathe the kids and take them to Sapphire Pavilion for their breakfast," Mira instructed and Vega immediately sprang into action. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was such a huge relief for me.
Tyler suddenly stopped and focused his gaze on a golden door in the room. I followed his line of sight and made a face.
"Tyler, that's obviously a door!" I said, hoping he would continue walking with Vega.
"I know, but where does it lead? Another closet, a balcony, or someone's room?" he asked, making me curious.
"Lily, could you please help us find out where this leads, otherwise we won't be able to spend the night here? Thank you," Ryan said.
.
"Mira..."
"I don't know where it goes," Mira quickly replied. " Alpha Brady installed it three weeks ago, the same day Vega arrived."
My expression betrayed my anxiety at the mention of Alpha Brady. I stood rooted to the ground and my eyes narrowed.
"We have just three minutes before breakfast, Lily. Get dressed, let's go," Mira prompted.
"Excuse me, where exactly is Sapphire Pavilion?" I asked inquisitively.
"It's the children's dining room," Mira replied. "Vega will bring them back to the room once breakfast is over."
"Oh, my God! Does every room have one of these robots?" I asked excitedly.
"No, Vega is a special gift from Alpha Brady to you. It cost him $50 million," Mira said with a smile.
"What?! Why would he spend such an outrageous amount to buy a robot for me?!" I frowned in confusion.
"Lily, dress up. We only have a minute," Mira instructed, glancing at her wristwatch. I hurried into the closet and quickly emerged fully dressed. I grabbed my phone and we headed towards the door. I could hear my pups giggling in the bathroom, but I trusted Vega to handle them as she was not human.
"Your wristwatch," Mira said.
I walked over to the table and retrieved the golden timepiece.
"I did not see the need to wear it," I remarked as I secured the watch onto my wrist.
"This castle is massive. If you happen to lose your way, you can be easily located as the person you call for assistance can see your location displayed on a screen. Alpha Zerek introduced it after Brady lost three Lunas," Mira explained.
"Okay, then I won't need my cell phone," I responded before signaling to Mira that I was ready to proceed.
As we stepped out of the room, a young she-wolf and two omegas walked past us. The girl, dressed like a princess, didn't acknowledge our presence, but her maids greeted us politely. Curiously, I asked.
"Who is she?"
"Her name is Natasha Williams. She is Alpha Lunaris' younger sister," Mira disclosed as we followed the girls at a leisurely pace.
"But why does she have such a strange attitude?" I inquired and Mira smirked.
"She doesn't talk to men and strangers. She doesn't even have a boyfriend. Her mate scented her two months ago, but she rejected him.
Her brother is also like that. Alpha Lunaris never looks twice at any she-wolf who isn't a business associate or his client, and he never chats with women," Mira explained.
"But I'm neither his business associate nor his client," I argued.
"Keep your voice down. If his mother finds out he chatted with you, she might pay you a visit," Mira warned, causing me to stop in my tracks.
