Chapter 1 I am choosing my mate, not my Alpha
“Have a seat, Meadow.” Alpha Josiah stated from his seat behind his desk.
The only seat remaining was one of two facing his desk. His son, Tanner, was taking up the other wearing a smirk that made me a bit uneasy. Hurriedly taking a seat I almost missed father and son staring at my ass. Disgusted, I held back the vomit and pretended I didn’t see anything.
“You look very yummy today.” Tanner leaned over rubbing my arms with the tips of his fingers. “Did you wear that just for me? White makes you look so innocent, little deer.”
“Stop that.” Alpha Josiah glared at him for a beat before turning his creepy old man smile on me. “We called you here for a reason. You are about to be 18 in a couple months and as you now in this pack if you have an ability or a strong wolf, I chose who they mate with to help strengthen our pack.”
I nodded, not liking where this was going. Just thinking about being with any of the kids of the leaders would send most of the girls my age running for the woods. They were so full of themselves thinking they were irresistible, but in reality no one wanted to put up with them and their s**t. The only girls to touch them were the ones in it for the power and they were f*****g several others in the pack so who knows what disease they might be sharing. On top of that him calling me by a prey nickname made me want to deck him to show him who was the prey in this scenario.
“Your wolf is very strong and her coloring is magnificent.” He continued picking up some papers off his desk. “That is why I want you in our family helping our bloodline. Tanner will make you a great partner when you turn eighteen. You will make a perfect breeder for his pups and his chosen mate will have no issue with you as you have strong bloodlines. He is strong, a great leader, and will help you learn your place.” He held out some papers to Tanner who smiled when grabbing them.
“I would love to teach you your place.” He winked at me turned his body toward me with the papers and a pen. “Just sign here and we will start getting to know each other so it will be easier when it is time for your first heat. I know you can’t wait to be mine but this has to stay between us or you might get hurt from the many she-wolves who thought they would be the ones pushing out my heirs.”
"Umm...." I was shocked and a little disgusted. Having no idea on how to get out of this without them putting me in the dungeon or turning on me I stayed silent.
“Come on, Meadow. We don’t have all day.” Tanner’s smile fell a bit. “I have to get my wild oats out before we work on getting you knocked up.” He pointed to his body like he was a trophy.
“Yea, ummm. Can I think on it?” I turned to Josiah, asking him. “This is a great honor and all, but I have plans for college and a boyfriend or two before finding my mate and having a kid or two. I’ve never even dated.”
“Told you she was a virgin.” Josiah chuckled making suggestive looks at his son. “And no. You need to decide now. Actually, let me rephrase that. You will sign that contract now or you are a rogue and will be killed on sight.”
“I can’t wait to make you pay for second guessing being my bitch.” Tanner growled, throwing the contract in my lap. “Sign that while I go visit on of my other bitches. They would kill to be in your place. Lucky your wolf makes you mean something here.” He stormed out of the room almost running over my dad.
“Alpha Josiah, can I have a word about my daughter?” He closed the door behind him and took Tanner’s now empty seat. “And can she head home? It is her turn to cook dinner tonight and my son is starving. You know how it is.”
Aisling was getting pissed with all the men thinking they were going to tell us what. ‘It’s, Ok. Dad would never talk to us like that unless he was covering something up. He must be trying to get us home without signing this stupid piece of paper.’
She nodded as I caught the tail end of Josiah agreeing with Dad. “She is learning the place of our mates quite well. She had me worried once she asked to think about our contract, but it seems she was just nervous.” He smiled at me with his eyes staying hard and cold. “Head home and get to work. We can finish this up tomorrow and get your stuff moved into the pack house.”
My mouth dropped open. Moved here? Away from my family? No freaking way.
‘Don’t say anything. Just nod and head home. I will take care of him.’ My dad linked moving his eyes from me to the door.
“Of course, Alpha.” I bowed my head and left moving my legs as fast as I could.
‘That man is living his last days and I mean it.’ Aisling growled, pacing back and forth. Her anger poured through me making it hard to concentrate on making it back to safety.
‘Let’s shift and let you burn some energy. Be quick about it though. Tanner could be anywhere.’ I let her take over, leaving me to my thoughts as she found the scent of her next prey.
I had to get out of here. I didn’t belong here, in this pack with these egotistical males. Acting like females are beneath them, especially if they have a powerful wolf, and telling them they have to have permission to do anything. Their egos would be their downfall and that was not something I wanted to be around for.
