Three cars pulled up in the parking lots of Santa Hospital, Chicago. This was one of the most sophisticated and expensive hospitals in Chicago owned by a rich business mogul who was not a doctor but employed the most qualified doctors.
A man from the front seat of one of the cars opened the door and Sara came out. The other door was opened to allow Van alight holding Angelo.
The rest of the body guards all alighted, looking round, watching every one they saw with keen and alert eyes.
Van walked round to hold Sara’s hand while he held Angelo with the other hand.
They walked towards the entrance while some guards followed them.
A security man bowed and opened the door for Van. He always prayed to be by the door whenever Van came.
As expected, Van handed one hundred dollars to him.
Then the sound of sirens from an ambulance filled the air. The ambulance drove in with a high speed and pulled up in the parking space. Some hospital interns rushed out with stretchers.
It seemed they were accident victims. Three men seemed to be badly injured.
“They need to be taken to the emergency room!” A man who came out of the ambulance said.
“We know how to do our job.” An intern said as they put the men on stretchers.
The three men crying in pains were rushed into the hospital. The driver of the ambulance sat behind the wheel like a statue.
The man who had accompanied the injured men wore a lab coat. He went into the reception.
“I am Kij Aaron, with the Road Emergency Unit. These men were involved in a ghastly car accident.” He said to the Medical Receptionist.
“They would be taken cared of but who is going to foot the bill? This is a private hospital and it seems you barely know them.”
“We found IDs on the men. They are bankers on an official trip and we called the bank. A management team is on the way. I think they will foot the bill. This is the closet and most reliable hospital to the accident scene and proximity matters.”
“Yes, Mr. Kij, did I say that correctly?”
“Yes.” Kij Said. “Kij is a short form of Kijomo.”
“The world has so many names and you always hear some names for the first time in your life.”
“I hear that a lot.” Kij Said. “May I see the MA?”
“Sure, that office over there.’
“I must make an official record.” Kij said and looked outside. “Oh, I think the bank men are here.”
Another car drove in and four men dressed in French suits alighted.
“I should talk to them.” Kij said and went out.
Mario, Van’s man looked at the men suspiciously. He took a few steps and said, “Hey, what do you men want?”
“Excuse me?” One of the men asked.
“I don’t see anyone looking sick here.’
“Are you the police or something?”
“That does not answer my question.”
“We seek for a safety agent who telephoned us, Kig.”
“It’s Kij.” Kij said as he walked towards them. “Kij Aaron, Road Emergency Unit. Identifications please.”
Them identified themselves.
“Are they still alive?” One of the men asked.
“Yes but fatally wounded. They are in the emergency unit.’
“Oh my God! They were supposed to attend a deal on behalf of the bank. Where is their car? Were some documents found?”
“The car has been carried away by the police. My job is to deal with their health. The police have all of that, I guess. The hospital would be paid some bills.”
“That would not be a problem. Thank you for your gestures.”
“Just doing my job. You are welcome.”
“We should go inside now.” Kij said.
They walked away with Van’s security men staring after them.
The men who were rushed into an emergency room were being laid on the bed while three doctors were summoned. The doctors moved in with alacrity with some nurses.
Immediately they got in, the patients sprang up and all brought out guns and pointed at the medical personnel.
“Shout and you get a bullet right into your skull.” One of the men faking to be wounded threatened.
“What is going on here?” A doctor asked.
“We got no truck with you guys.” Said one of the arm men. He looked at a nurse. “You are taking us right to the pediatric department and to the pediatrician handling Don Van’s wife. They are here and we are here for them!”
********
“Don Van, you are welcome Sir. Hello Mrs. Van.” Doctor Sachi said with a grin. These were his favorite clients. After each session. Van gave him a tip that was more than his salary for two months.
“Thank you Doctor Sachi...” Van began.
“Sachi please.” Sachi said. “Please sit down,”
“It is good to see you again, doctor.” Sara said.
“Big Angelo” Sachi smiled at Angelo.
“Hello Dohto Sashi.” Angelo said.
“It’s Doctor Sachi, Rogers.”
“I said Dohto Sashi.”
“Hey, what is going on there?” They heard someone say from outside the office.
Bang!
A gunshot was heard.
“What is going on?” Sachi asked wondered. “Is that a gun shot?”
Van was up already and he quickly moved the door. He turned the door knob and lowered his height to peep.
This move saved his face from receiving a bullet because immediately the door opened and he peeped, bullets zipped pass his him.
He was shot at by a man holding a nurse hostage and there was a cleaner lying on the floor dead. He may have been the one who asked what was going on and got shot.
Van removed a pistol and fired a straight shot that hit the killer on his shoulder.
He let the nurse go and she screamed.
Van followed with another quick shot and hit the man on the chest.
“Come on, let’s get out of here!” Van said and carried Angelo. He looked at the curtain, moved and tugged it off before tearing a long piece, put Angelo on his back and tied him with the piece of cloth.
Sachi was now shivering.
“May I know what is going on?” He asked.
“You may ask the gunmen here.” Van said, “or find safety and seek for answers later.”
Van held Sara’s hand. She was nine months pregnant and this was hard for her.
“Wait..” Van said and peeped. “Come on…”
Immediately they came out of the office, another man appeared and Van fired two shots at him.
“Oh my God! Those are the men that were said to have had an accident. They are supposed to be in surgery.” Sachi said.
They moved quickly and Van asked the burse who was still sitting on the floor.
“What is going on?”
“They claimed to have had an accident but turned out to keep us hostage and asked where you were.” Said the nurse.
Van turned at Sachi.
“Take and her hide somewhere. Do not come after us. “ I suspect kidnappers.” Van said but he knew it was not about kidnapping. It was a gang feud.
“Come on, Sara..” He held her hand and they walked on.
