Chapter: Four

1998 Words
Aiden POV I’ve just gotten back from training, which took me away from the pack for six years. At sixteen, I was shipped off to the forts on top of the Stirling Ranges, a mountainous terrain close to the South of Serpentine. Most Alphas, Betas, Deltas, and Omegas get trained there, including warriors both female and male. It’s a dedicated area to train the strongest of us. We train with all sorts of supernatural creatures, but the most shocking and rarest of them are the were-dingos and were-kangaroos. They are usually of aboriginal and islander descent and are blessed with these shifter abilities. They aren’t immortal like other supernatural creatures, but their spirits pass down their family lines. I was sent there just after the last serious rogue attacks that claimed the lives of over 50 pack members. I remember that night all too well. It was chaos, fire, death, rage. Father was furious, and we never could figure out who was behind it. An almost senseless attack on the people, my people. As I lean against my Land Cruiser, I think about what Father has asked me. I know all too well my wolf, Atlas, is going to be pissed. Atlas has been pining to see Raven for years. When we first met her, she was only 11 at the time, but it was Atlas who saved her from the rogues that night. He took control, and even though I was small, I managed to surprise the rogue and get Raven back to the packhouse safely. I haven’t seen her since that day, but those beautiful eyes left Atlas speechless, which is saying a lot because he never shuts up. Well, not about her anyway. And with his constant moaning about the she-wolves I have slept with, I have managed to ignore him for six years. The truth is, I don’t feel any attachment to Raven. I was just doing my duty and looking after my pack like the Alpha I am trained to become. I did, however, tell my sister, Rose, about the encounter. She’s always been gushing about it every time I called home. I’ve had my pick of Alphas’ daughters, or whoever I wanted. They would often visit the fortress with their fathers. I mean, just last week, I had Leah’s sweet lips wrapped around my d**k. Mmmm, the memory makes me twitch. Atlas groans, “Argh? That w***e again? Seriously, you are an i***t, Aiden! She is not our mate!” Atlas whines at me. “Oh seriously, Atlas, shut up. We do not know who our mate is.” I tell him as I mentally block him out. I haven’t seen anyone who has sparked an interest in Atlas other than his obsession with Raven. He just groans again at me. “You are an idiot.” What is his obsession with her? She was only a child. At first, I was a bit worried, but he was not attracted to her sexually. Her eyes sparked intrigue, and he wanted to be around her. Protect her. As I lean on the hood of the car, the sun beating down on me, I am reminded of how much I dislike the heat. It’s almost unbearable. Especially when I am waiting for Rose to finish gossiping with her “friends.” I roll my eyes and look at my watch. Again. When something piques Atlas’s interest, I smell something. Something sweet. As we take in more of the scent, Atlas perks right up. It smells like sweet vanilla with a hint of lavender. I start searching to see if I can pinpoint the smell. Since scanning the schoolyard may appear perverted, I try to do it as discreetly as possible. But it doesn’t take long anyway before the most striking blue eyes hit me, looking in my direction. Is that little Raven? Atlas perks right up. “That’s her! That’s Raven! Not so little anymore!” The moron is wagging his tail in my head. I take another look, and even from this distance, her eyes shine like sapphires. Atlas is at full attention, tongue sticking out of his mouth. Fuck. That night in the woods, she was covered in soot and ash. It must’ve blocked her scent because I never caught it before today. FUCK! Ugh—she’s got no ranking. Everyone at the training academy was pretty convinced that they needed Beta or Alpha blood to produce strong heirs. It’s a selfish and often outdated notion, with some Alphas rejecting their fated mates for a chosen mate with a superior bloodline for ‘the good of the race.’ One would think history has taught us enough about people wanting pure blood? Just look at the human’s history, let alone ours. AND she’s a known troublemaker. I have heard stories and rumors from Scarlett, the minx that is trying to claw her way to the top. And she’s been linked with Luke of all people. Argh, that piece of s**t won’t ever be my Beta. I can’t stand that smug prick. He’s always thought it was his God-given right. How wrong he was! I get to pick my Beta and Delta. Me! No one else. I look back into the schoolyard and see those dazzling eyes. Those eyes remind me of something I had buried away. The images jumpstart, already playing in my mind. That night in the woods, I remember the smells, the blood, the burning wood, the bodies, and the screams. I hear screaming and crying, and I head in that direction. There’s so much smoke it’s hard to see. When I notice the flash of teeth, I shift and run full speed into the side of a rogue, knocking him over. I look to my left, and those big blue eyes hit me. She’s covered in soot and ash, tears streaming down her face, making way for her pale skin to shine through. Atlas stares and is mesmerized by her. While we are captivated, she passes out, snapping us out of our trance just as the rogue starts to get to its feet. We pick her up and fly through the woods as fast as we can. My legs take me through the forest, through the ruin and chaos that unfolds around me, trying to find safety. There are people everywhere panicking; screams and howls fill the air. I can see Dad in his wolf form, fighting at full speed. His impressive moves, his eyes filled with red-hot rage, a magnificent sight to watch. But not now. I don’t have the luxury right now. I start scanning, looking for Mum. I lock eyes on her as she’s helping women and children into the bunker. I run as fast as I can, carrying Raven. Mum spots me and gasps, “Aiden, what were you thinking! You could have been killed!” Pulling me into her and looking down, she noticed the child covered in ash. “Raven,” she says in a sad tone. Glancing back at me, her eyes filled with hope until I shook my head. Tears welled and ran down her cheeks, knowing full well Raven’s mother wasn’t found. I pull myself out of these thoughts and continue to look at Raven, sitting, staring back at me. “Her wolf can sense me,” Atlas says, excitement filling his words. I sigh and roll my eyes. My mind lingers on some other she-wolf I just f****d hours before seeing Raven and the many who had been throwing themselves at me since I’ve been home. It’s all now crashing into a shitstorm. Even Scarlett has been throwing herself at me. When I bumped into her a few days ago, she pulled me into a closet. Without saying a word, she undid my belt buckle, yanked down my pants and boxers, and sucked my semi-hard c**k into her mouth while cupping my balls. With a few flicks of her tongue, she had me at full attention. Taking control, I grabbed her hair and started pumping into her mouth. While her tongue flicked the tip, my mind started to warp. It was now Raven’s face I saw instead of Scarlett’s in my memory. My d**k pulsing in her mouth, because it all became more of a turn-on to see those blue, teary eyes looking up at me. Pulling out of the memory, I feel myself getting hard. I let out a groan when I feel the bulge in my pants straining against the zipper. Oh f**k! “Do you get it now, Aiden?” Atlas said smugly. I understand the desire, I do. It’s been spoken about my whole life. Alphas need a mate. Our wolves are stronger and need that second part of their soul. They can rule regardless, but without their Luna, it’s harder for them to be rational. I have heard the stories of stubborn Alphas refusing to take a mate and over time slowly losing control over their wolf. It all only leaves them to become cruel, heartless, or mad. I suppose there’s a reason we have a strong urge to have a mate. Even with wolves in the wild, their mate will protect their throat in a confrontation. It’s that sense and bond of having someone to protect and someone to protect you. I do understand this; I actually ache for it. Father has always said it’s like nothing else: the urges, the pull towards one another. But with Raven? I haven’t seen her in so long, and I’ll admit from this distance, she is stunning. But I don’t know her. She’s literally just lost control of her wolf today by attacking Luke and ripping his ear off. I chuckle at the thought and wonder what he did. The prick could be so arrogant. I bet he deserved it. “I do,” Atlas chimes in, “I know her.” This all-wisewolf with his riddles. “What does that mean?” Silence as usual from Atlas. “Argh, you and your riddles, you annoying mutt!” I look over and see Rose heading towards me. Stealing one last glance at Raven, I make a pact with myself. I need to forget about her. It’s nothing. It needs to be nothing. “Hey, Rose, what’s been going on?” I give her a big hug. It’s been a while since I saw her last. Shit. Just wonderful, I grimace as I watch Scarlett running to catch up. “Aiden, you won’t believe the day we’ve had.” Scarlett’s shrill voice rings in my ears. Atlas lets out a growl. “That psycho Raven bit off Luke’s ear,” she laughs. I look at Rose, and she just shrugs. Atlas says, “Raven is feisty. I love it.” “Oh, you would, you horn dog,” I mutter at him in my head. “Scarlett, she’s not a psycho. Luke and Marcus attacked her,” Rose interrupts Scarlett’s rambling. A growl I can’t control escapes my chest. Rose looks at me with a raised eyebrow, then an all-knowing look crosses her face. I put my hand up before she could say a word, trying my hardest to cover the red, starting to creep across my face, on fire with embarrassment. “Let’s just get back. I have so much to do.” I say to them, giving Rose a warning look. She just laughs, and I grumble at her to keep her mouth zipped. “You’ll soon see. Raven is special,” Atlas cackles at me. Fuck, I think to myself as I start the car and we head back to the packhouse. I sigh as Scarlett prattles non-stop the entire ride, and I just know this will lead to a tension headache. I rub my temple with my free hand. “This is what you get for being a manwhore,” Atlas grins at me. Fuck, this is going to be a long drive back.
