Chapter 4A few months after he’d transferred to DC, a document in French had come across his desk by accident. He’d translated it and sent it on to the proper department. A month later the data was in German, and he translated that as well. No one questioned him about it, so he figured it was just an extension of his job. When the intelligence was in a language he didn’t know—Korean or Farsi or Chinese—he’d pass it on after making a copy for himself, then spend however long it took becoming familiar with the language. Afterward he’d destroy the copy and his notes, since he had a photographic memory and no longer had any use for them.
