Satisfied with their observations the previous day in the port area, their attention now turned to the town walls from the Lantern Tower northwards.
“Fine day, so let’s get started. We should complete our tour by nightfall.” Bertrand said to his sergeant with a chirpy tone to his voice.
“Ay, captain, and decent weather means there will be people out and about to question. We’re beginning to put together a picture of the place, as Catherine demands.”
They walked slowly along the stone slabs and cobbles of the walkway on top of the walls. To their left, they had an unimpeded view of the land any potential attacker would have to negotiate. After a few minutes, they paused.
“It’s dense woodland as far as you can see. Imagine it in spring and summer when the trees have their leaves.”
